OK... So i asked a stupid question the last time. So here are 2 questions i really don't know the answer to...1) Who is the best banker alive today? and how about this one also....2) who was the best banker ever. Dead or alive?...
A few years ago there was a man from down south that stayed around the Albany NY area for about 8 months. Loved to bank. would play anybody banks. Claimed his wife was a nurse that transferred to our local hospital. ! day i went into the pool hall absolutely broke just to hang out. He asked me to play some banks for the hell of it and i told him that i was financially embarrased. (BROKE). he said come play anyway and he would pay the time. so i said why not. we played for about an hour and he thanked me and stuck a c-note in my shirt pocket and said pay me when you get it. When payday came i looked for this man where he was staying and found that he and his wife disappeared just as mysteriously as they had arrived. sure wish i knew where he was. would love to pay him back someday. Oh, by the way, he went by the first name of dave and was suppose to be from alabama or georgia. sound familiar to anybody....mike

my thought

I think Jason Miller has proven that he can bank as good asm anyone that shows up at the greatest pool tourney on earth ,dcc. He also plays one hole and 9 ball pretty sporty don't you think?

All time, it has to be Eddie Taylor with Bugs and Cannonball right behind.
Currently Jason Miller is the man at Banks, with Jay Helfert way behind.

=)

In my opion I doubt if Miller would want any of Daulton in a full rack bank game for a couple of sandbags.. I dont even think that Miller would want any action from Piggy, Houge or Brumback in a gambling match with sand on the line... The best bank player today would be Shannon if hes got his mind right nobody can win no matter what any of you all say.. Best bank pool player of all time A toss up between Eddie Taylor and Lenoard "Bugs" Rucker.... Heard that the things they banked was un godly.. =)

Yeah, I think I like Brumback over Miller but I could be wrong? lol

The "who is the best..." question is always a tough one and will bring many different opinions. I would have to say Miller is playing the best banks currently...his DCC record proves that. For all time, my choice is Bugs because I actually saw him play and he was amazing. If I would have seen Taylor play my choice may have been him.

Toss up

I find it hard to say that anyone is playing better than Jason Miller because he has the hardware to prove he is curently the man. I think Shannon likes his game against any of them. But the truth is on any day there are upwards of ten elite bank players and any of them can take the cash. I am surprised nobody chimed in with Brian Gregg's name. He has played some jam up bank the last couple of years as well.

> This is just my opinion, based on things I've seen and heard over the years. Playing straight-up bank, short rack or full rack,if there is any living human that can regularly beat Tony Fargo,I don't know about it. Shannon will play him one-hole or anything else, but has never tried to play him even. Same goes for Cliff,Jason Miller,or Piggy. I wasn't around to see it,but Tony is said to have several even-game wins over Bugs, and at one time, perhaps even today, was willing to let anyone back the ghost playing him short-rack. After Jason won DCC last year,Tony offered him a game within 15 minutes, and was refused. Tommy D.

Mike, my friend. You really need to make your way to the Derby City Classic. Not only to see who is the greatest player alive at whatever discipline (obscure to all but the Derby City events), but you get to go to the One-Pocket Hall of Fame banquet and see all the living greats of the "hustler games."

Last year, bank pool players were also inducted into the One Pocket Hall of Fame.

Today, it would be tough to not consider Jason Miller as the greatest living bank pool player, short rack. Truman Hogue, Shannon Miller, and John Brumback get my nod for next in line.

For full rack, I have no clue.

For greatest ever, would anyone dare say someone other than Eddie Taylor or Chicago Bugs?

It's always just an opinion and when you only have seen or heard the accomplishments of a player a few times it is hard to say that they were the best. I saw Bugs Rucker play about 9 years ago and he could swing it but I also saw an OLD tape of Eddie Taylor when he was like-maybe 75 years old and he demonstrated his prowess at that age and it was awesome. He banked balls in the hole as easily as I shoot a straight in 4 feet away and that is when he was in his seventies. Can you imagine what he must have been like as a young man? He claimed to have banked in all 15 consecutively at least twice in his time. I don't know if Bugs had a run of that amount but know he too is mentioned many times as one of the if not the best bank pool player ever.

In nine-ball, some might say Lassiter was the best, others like Buddy Hall, Don Willis,etc...

One pocket, some say Ronnie Allen, others say Efren, Rags, Jersey Red...

Three cushion- Raymond Ceuelemens dominated for decades but others consider Torbjorn the best ever.

Only Willie Mosconi is also almost universally considered the best at a game without too much dispute. Some will say Greenleaf, but not too many.

EVERYONE who was around during Eddie Taylor's playing days consider him the best of all time. Bugs has said Eddie was the top guy. Eddie dominated banks and still has records (37 banks in a row) that are hard to believe. Ceuelemens dominated three cushion forever but the level of play has risen tremendously since then (scoring averages have almost doubled).

I can't remember the post exactly, but someone had a story of a guy coming in to look at cues. He tries it out on a table to see if he likes the hit. Threw 15 balls out, banked them all in, and then bought the cue. The guy was Eddie Taylor of course. I'd guess he's banked all 15 balls in a number of times.

not taking a gambling match

I was there the last four years and if Jason Miller didn't match up with tony fargo it was more than likely he was trying to concentrate on the one pocket ,9 ball ,overall which he won handily and also add rest time to gear himself up for IPT eightball that by the way he also won over a great field . I don't see Jason bieng scared of very many players period but he might need a little spot in onehole with Efren.

Does this mean twice in a row, or twice in a lifetime? Or in rotation? I would hope the greatest bank pool player ever did all 15 more than twice in a lifetime. Or maybe I'm not grasping the greatness of that accomplishment. Was it in a match with a safety break?

Fred <~~~ banked out a full 10-ball rack once (on a bar table!).

I'm too young to know about the great bank players that have passed on:o but of the living players a few names that would have to be considered are Miller (obviously) Daulton, and piggy. Any signifigant names that haven't been mentioned in this thread? I get the feeling were leaving someone out that deserves to be mentioned.

Javenly "Youngblood" Washington

The great black champion, the original Youngblood used to play Bugs 10 to 8 up until Bugs was about 26 years old. He's still alive by the way, in a nursing home. Blood and John Cannonball Lefty Chapman had many memorable sessions playing in each others home court.

Most 15 ball bank matches utilize the safety break, especially in Eddie's era. I would say you would see a 15 & out in a safety break bank match about as often as you would see a 400 run in 14.1, or 10 games & out in 9 ball.
