omgwtf vs cubc - I love it

You guys forgot the biggest form of gambling. The lottery in all the different forms it takes such as power ball. Also, keno, that you see all over the place. And get this, it is all state sanctioned gambling.

For people to take a dim view of pool because of gambling, whether it be by the participants or observers is completely hypocritical. Even more so when thos twits who poo-poo pool play the hell out of the lottery.

The stock market has to be up there too.

That whole gambling thing sure has kept Poker out of the lime light. Those poor guys and their seedy image, whatever will they do?
You say gambling is the problem, I say trying to make pool into golf for the last 30 years is the problem.

Man good post, im having to say less and less sensical things on this forum! Rep to you!

Last time I saw Poker on TV the entire time the poker players were talking about gambling with each other at golf, winning and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars. You know you're a gambler when you talk about gambling to pass time while gambling at something else :D

I don't think it's just gambling, but the kind of gambling and hustling that goes on even near the top players.

I have no idea if you can call Vegas and place bets on golf, but you probably can. Maybe you bet on tiger woods to win a tournament by 2 strokes or something like that. You can be sure when you place your bet that:

1. Tiger will be trying his hardest to win
2. Each day he probably went to bed at a decent hour
3. No one walked up to him and offered him a large amount of cash to dump
4. He wasn't going to bail on the tournament because he got involved in a large money match where he could make 3 times what he would if he won.

With the exception of the players who are known to be class acts, could you say the same for most of the players in a pro pool event?

I would like nothing more then to see pool become a major sport with huge tournament payouts and the top players making hundreds of thousands if not millions per year, but it seems like right now it's caught in a vicious cycle and has been for a very long time. There isn't enough money coming into the sport because of the behavior of some of the characters and many of the characters behave the way they do because there isn't enough money to go around.

You, apparently, have not hung out with many pro golfers for any length of time! LOL

Some of the most degenerate gamblers I've ever met.

Cubc doesn't love it so much. I went into the WaffleHouse for breakfast & he cooked it....later that day the wife & I ordered a pizza for dinner...he delivered that too. I tipped him $2 so now at least he's only $2998 in the hole.:D

On top of all that....I walked out into my yard at 5am & he peddled by on a 10speed & tossed me my morning paper. This guy is really humping it to get the rent covered....you all should get off his azz!!!:D

I admit I only took interest in this match when I found out that one of the participants was a very good looking woman.
So I downloaded the video, just to see what it is about. Watched just one hour, couldn't take it anymore, so I fast forwarded it to the end to see how it would turn out.
There's no way I would watch amateur pool on tv/internet, I don't care if they played for million dollars.

No, you're not paying attention, I never said it was a problem other people have and its the same people who come here and love to read about all the barking. I personally could care less if the game is more like golf or more like underground cage fighting. Its not my opinion its the opinion of others and I'm just commenting on the irony there.

Again so there is no more confusion. I could care less about the gambling I'm mearly pointing out that others do, along with all the other stigma's falsely attached to the game, and they're the same people that love to stir the pot.

Wow, you can certainly dish it but the moment it comes back at you, you have to get all butthurt and whine that we're "taking food from your family"....

What a hypocrite....

I can tell you that I found the whole ordeal very interesting between cubc and OMGWTF. They settled their differences the best way possible...on the table.

I'm all for it, as long as she posts.

I guess I am a little slow today because that did not make a whole lot of sense to me.

No worries. This horse is very very dead anyway.

I was commenting on how many people love to talk and hype up gambling but those are the same people crying about the image of pool not appealing to a family atmosphere. Which is two faced and annoying and in abundance here. I'm poking fun at them.

I wasn't saying I'm against gambling which is what you thought I was saying, you and I actually agree.

JAM sent me a PM that I wasn't going to disclose as I'm not much for drama but it concerned this post. I replied back with: Thanks. I appreciate that. She then gave me a red rep for this post. So, this message is to JAM:

Thanks, I really appreciate that red rep! :D Glad to see you're still reading every thread. I thought you might have actually stopped visiting.

I'm sorry, but you won't be getting one back. I try not to abuse the system.

p.s. I'm very proud of my first red rep. :p

Don't insult Keith or you're really going to get the red rep from her for a long time. She's a rep monster

That match demonstrated how well an otherwise insignificant match-up could be brilliantly marketed via the internet.

I know that wasn't the intention, but it certainly was the result.

Look for similar grudge matches in the future, but this one set a bar that will be hard to exceed.
Absolutely true!!

Case in point, the Minnesota Fats vs. Willie Mosconi matchup on Wide World of Sports was all hype and marketing of a grudge match. And to this day, the vast majority of non-poolplaying public only knows the name "Minnesota Fats."

That's a really good point you brought up! I hadn't even thought about that match. We need more of that sort of thing. Can you imagine a rivalry in the pool playing world that would get built up so much that ESPN would show it and market it as such.

Can you imagine a pro football game if all the participants had to pony some of there own money, out of pocket before the game began and before they were allowed to enter. Winner take all.
