On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

I'm in trouble JoeyA

AND no pool tournaments until at least one week after surgery.

JoeyA

The second day after the knee replacement I rolled over on the drain container and the drainage went back in my knee. My right leg is so swelled up it feels like it is going to explode.

Don't know what they need to do but will know more tomorrow.

The way it feels I would settle for 2 months and be happy. Can't bend it hardly at all.

I sure hope Florida St covers the 4 pint spread.

Heads up in a day or 2. Just need one more good roll.............

Pretty rough..

Gene, How you feeling today?

I'm in assisted living right now. My leg is as swelled as it was after the surgery.
Don't really know what is going on but this is pretty tough. On the same pain meds also and need them. Got a high pain thresh hold but this has been ridiculous.

Keeping it iced and high. I guess that is all I can do for now.

Need the swelling to go down before it will bend. I've heard stories where they just force the knee to bend but it can't if it's swelled up.

I'm going to call the doc on Monday and see what he thinks. I might have an infection? Who knows.

Thanks for asking. Once we get this swelling thing under control it should heal pretty quick and I will be playing and teaching.

It really sucked today though. I had Ole Miss -1 1/2 for $500 and thought they had a touchdown. I even quit watching the game only to see a replay of the Ole Miss players getting hurt and within inches from a touchdown when He lost control of the ball.

The good news was I also had $500 on Oregon - 7 1/2. What a team.....

You're in assisted living? You need to be in a hospital. What kind a doctor do you have...or hasn't he/she been around to see the leg yet. You should be on Antibiotics after this kind of surgery and should of had IV antibiotic before that. You're going to keep FN around and loose that leg. Johnnyt

could be . . .

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything but Johnny's medical advice comes from first hand knowledge. You could lose your leg or your life. The swelling could take many months to go down too. Mentioned this to my brother who was a medic in the army, x-ray tech afterwards, and still spends a lot of time in hospitals training people. His reaction was much the same as Johnny's, nothing to drag your feet and sit around waiting for it to go down.

Need to get the experts in and if you aren't comfortable with the treatment the first doctor suggests get another doctor. My guess would be massive doses of antibiotics and perhaps fluid pills or something to take the swelling down but this ain't the time for self medication or listening to amateurs. Every hour could be vital too, both in how long you are down and in terms of risk of losing that leg.

A friend of mine stuck a nail in his foot, no big deal. Next thing he knew they wanted to take the foot off. He objected to the idea, said he came into the world with two feet and he was going out the same way. As a very dangerous second choice to whacking the foot off they sliced it up like delicatessen meat and packed it full of sulfa drugs. He was on crutches for two years but got lucky.

Some things you can drag your feet and play around with, some things you can't! You need to contact the people that did the work right now when you read this. Odds are they want you back in the hospital, immediately!

Anyone know if he's in the hospital yet? I can't believe his doctor sent him to an assisted living for rehab. What the hell do they know about post op knees or any other post op surgery for that matter. Unbelievable. Johnnyt

I don't have any idea how this is all supposed to work.

My brother had his replaced about 3 weeks ago. he played dart ball about 6 days later. From what I'm going through I would say that was close to impossible.

I'm calling my doctor tomorrow morning. Slept real bad last night and still doing the max meds.I don't dare miss one or the pain goes off the charts like right now. Just thought this typing would take my mind off it.

I have a high tolerrence for pain but this is ridiculous sometimes.

This morning I let my right leg get too close to the edge of the bed. My knee won't bend very far but when it accidently slipped over the side it bent way too far. that really hurt. I nurse here told me wait until tomorrow?

The swelling hasn't went down at all. Feel pretty beat up.

I got a best friend from high school. His name is Allen Bell. I also have 2 step sons and an X wife that live in Miami. The 2 boys are Roney and Sady. Allen lives in about the middle of the state.
I want to stop down and see them all when I get recovered. If your not too far off the beaten path I'm going to have to stop and see you johnnyt.

Should be fun. Have some lunch and talk some pool.

Thanks johnnyt for advice from someone I know, Knows..........

That nurse should have called your doctor and your doctor should have sent you to the hospital. The DR only gets so much for each type of surgery and staying in a hospital for an extra week on IV antibiotics for infection ain't part of it. Johnnyt

Were I to hazard a guess, Gene isn't running a fever or the resident nurse would be calling the surgeon promptly. Gene, you shouldn't be shy, call the doctor first thing tomorrow morning. You likely should have called him yesterday.

Got it on the run...........

My fever was up to about 100 sometimes and sometimes normal. Had therapy now for 2 hard worked days in a row and the knee seems to be coming around.

Finally got some cream that will take care of this terrible rash on my back. A gal a the hospital wash my back with these wipes that came out of a package. As soon as it hit my back I knew I was in trouble. In 5 days it went from rash to bleeding. The people at the assisted living place act like they can't do anything with out my doctors order.

Got the hydrocortisone on it today and told the girl to use a pillow case instead of the wash cloth to wash it off first with. They didn't argue. They just did it. The wash cloth is too abrasive and tears the top off the bumps.

The fever could have been from the rash. it was pretty bad. As soon as I would sweat just a little it would get real bad and itch.

Got allot of work to do with the rehab and got luck. I get a mean young lady to work with. Not really. She's a sweetheart and works it real hard.

This knee thing is no joke. it's not like they just pop it in and your ready to go. But the nice thing is once this gets healed up I will be able to practice during the week. The way it was for the last 18 years and the reason I quit in 1999 was I couldn't get to the level that I knew I could get to because I couldn't practice.

Look out after I get healed up. I'm going to have some fun beating some players out there that nobody even thinks I should be playing.

Practice will make a big difference.

Who knows. I might even have another Chris Bartram match again.

And no Chris. Don't start barking at me until I can at least walk.

I might still lose but it won't be like stealing again.

Thanks everyone for all the support. I will be back on the road again unless I open a pool hall here with my son. In that case I will need to run it with him for a year or 2.

Still got plenty of pain...

I'm doing the rehab everyday and the therapy person that is helping me is great but she is a little surprised at how much pain I have. Having been through multiple surgeries in my life I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and this knee replacement has been right on the top of the pain list so far. She tells me it is different for everyone. But the nursing assistants are really surprised. I can tell by the way they react to what I'm going through.

I need to ice the knee all the time. It's been a combination of the ice and pain meds that keep the sanity to this pain situation.

I get the stapples out tomorrow so I will be able to tell the knee doctor all the events and concerns that have taken place face to face.

I developed a horrible rash on my back that I noticed the third day in the hospital. Once at the rehab place I felt pretty helpless as far as help with this because they are dependent on calling my doctor and relaying what they see and what I tell them. It hasn't been fun learning how to coordinate this info with the nurses here. Especially being on all the meds that really fog the mind.

The itching is so bad that I feel like climbing the walls, in fact even typing out this post is challenging. I have the knee iced up. My right heal that they put in a vise like contraption to do the surgery iced up, must have been a little too tight. Ankle is still pretty swollen and it's hard to step on my heal. I can do it but it's tough. Pretty sore. And I have ice on my back to ease the itch that otherwise is out of control.

I'm not complaining here at all but just trying to portray what is going on. I knew a knee replacement could be pretty brutal but it had to be done. I can still play at a pretty high level and this will help me get to the top of my high gear and stay there. I will be able to practice. Something that hasn't even been in my vocabulary for the past 6 years.

Can't wait to get this all behind me. I want to get on that pool table and practice like I used to. I want to see where I can get. This will be another whole chapter in my pool playing career. I'm excited even as I'm plunking out this post.

Thanks Johnnyt and everyone else that sent me messages with advise on what to do. Kind of kept me motivated to keep at it here to get some action. When you get in a place like this, and it's a nice place, nothing much happens unless you make a little noise.

Right now I'm waiting for a call from the nurse to see when I can get in today, and she said today is important on this back thing.

Tomorrow the stitches get out and I need to check on the time of that appointment.

On top of all of this I am one lucky person to be getting the help I need to get my quality of life back up there so I can pursue the game we all love. Plus, feeling better with more energy I can portray this aiming thing I have learned better and figure out how to help players understand how important this is and how much this will help their game.

When I'm healed up and ready to get it on the pool world better be ready for me. I will be making more noise than ever but good noise.

Thanks again everyone.

Gene, feel well soon.

I completely forgot to come here and thank you for the phone lesson but, thank you!
It's helped me tremendously and something I don't think I ever would have figured out on my own.

No need to worry.......

I see people in here that have had a knee done and now are doing the other. For some the first one was easy and the second one was real tough.

There are so many variables to factor in.

Mine was in bad shape for 18 years. The muscles were real small and I could not exercise it.

Good luck with your wifes knee. If the insurance will pay for it stay at a assisted living place and do everything your supposed to.

When it's time it's time.

Good Luck..............

Thanks Koop for the kind words here.........

Like I told you this helps everyone. But how do you convince players that it will unless you can actually show them?

This is why I do mini lessons when I go to a new pool room.

Chances of figuring this out on your own were around the 0% mark for sure.

I have never and I can say never for sure that nobody has ever figured this out. At least I have never seen anyone that has.

And when something like this helps any player that much it's kind of ridiculous.

I started tooting my horn on AZ back in 2009. Trying to tell the world about this amazing aiming technique that helps you naturally envision the shot so much better. Being my first time ever on any site let alone the computer I didn't know how many goof balls that didn't have a clue were trying to tell everyone on AZ or other sites how to this or that and were so far out it was ridiculous. They don't have a clue and neither did the players they were trying to tell.

At first everyone thought I was a crackpot also until the testimonials keep rolling in. And all positive.

Mr Koop, is there anyone anywhere that is going to tell you that there is a better way to envision the shot? There probably is but what you have seen with your own eyes has made it clear that this is the answer. Anything else would almost have to be a similar teaching with the eyes and it just doesn't exist.

This is why I am so excited to get done with this rehab and get back on the road. You learned the basic principle of Perfect Aim over the phone and it works pretty good. Now you can see for yourself why you were having trouble getting better.

I was really glad to help you. Your a respected person here on AZ and many players respect your opinion but as you have probably seen already that it is hard to convince players that there is something like this that can help them to this extreme amount.

If you have any question don't hesitate to call.

I'm not doing any Perfect Aim lessons right now. Just trying to get this leg back in business.

But once I'm done with this I'll be back to making allot of noise about something I know allot about.

Thanks again..........and Good Luck with your game...........

Thanks, Gene, that means a lot. I don't think I'm much of anything more than a fan and student of the game.

I'd be happy to call again, even to just shoot the breeze for a while. It was a pleasure to talk to you.
