need to no the spot progression
example
9-8
10-8
9-7
thanks everyone

Should be 8-7 after 10-8. Otherwise you are doing fine. After 9-7, comes 11-8 or 10-7. You can always go longer and give up more balls, for example 12-8 and the like. In the normal progression after 10-7 comes 8-6 and then 9-6, but 11-7 is also a possibility. You see, it is up to the players if they want to go with longer games or shorter ones.

I have seen games like 7-6 and 6-5, even 3-2. Anything is possible in One Pocket. I gave Archie the Greek 5-3 and the break for 500 a game. We had progressed downward from the original game of 9-5. I beat him badly at 9-5 and 7-4. He beat me just as bad at 5-3. So the shorter game did not work well for me.

As I've said before, there is no set spot progression because everyone plays differently. Besides that, there are more ways to hadicap a one-pocket game than you can shake a stick at, let alone list in some sort of order. Giving 9-6 to a run-out style player is much different than giving it to a bunter who plays at the same level. Much of it also depends on your own playing style and your ability to adapt to various players, and various handicaps. The onepocket.org handicap explanation should give you a good starting point though.

How about playing that runout player 3 and safe, where after he makes 3 he can only play safe.

Or my favorite, 3 and stop, :) where after the 3rd ball pocketed he has to stop right there with no additional shot for a safe. :)

I no, I no... Wait, maybe I don't. Oh, crap. What do I do now. He said no posting if I didn't no. Please delete or something. Get me out of here!

Jay, when I have given something like 8 to 3 to a really weak player, the problem is that if I make just one mistake it may cost me the game. I'm guessing that may have happened with you and Archie. With the longer game, you could overcome a mistake, but maybe not with the short game.

Also, if the lesser player is a decent shot maker, he doesn't have to
play OnePocket with that spot, just shoot 'em in the hole.

A good friend of mine, when we were kids, made a fair score against
one of the top players in the room at 8 to 4. Game looked bad on paper,
but the better player was a guy who just refused to run balls.
