One pocket. What’s the play?

Hey I’m in an intense game of one pocket with myself right now. I’m down (-1)-0. Already took the scratch once. So if it was you. You’re shooting to the right side pocket(right side in picture) now. What’s your shot?

I’ve honestly been looking at this for the last half an hour. If I hit 5 to the rail I’m kind of screwed in a few shots and everything up top is blocked. I’m perplexed! 😐 🤔 (Trying to keep the cluster). The guy shooting to the left pocket hit a nice f’n open table safe. Too bad he doesn’t usually play so well.

One pocket is really weird to play against yourself. Not as in you're a weird person, but strategizing like that feels strange. You're both happy and frustrated when you get a good safety. I'm never sure who to cheer against.

You're going to have to bank the 2 and bounce the cue ball off the rail to get on the 11 or the 6. Preferably the 11. Back up for the 4 and 10.

PS don't listen to me, I lose to myself 3 out of 4 times.

Bank the 4. Kill the cue ball as best you can.
Ah. So you plan on making the 4 or leaving opponent a bank shot? My strategy isn’t great on 1-pocket. I just threw the 11 around the 12 and hoped there was enough draw to get behind the pile. Its whats called fingers crossed strategy at best. I’m still learning how to give up balls safely/strategically.

It’s always harder when both players in one pocket have same game plan. And then you start feeling bad for the other guy and letting him make balls.👍👍

I kind of like banking the 4, but I'd be concerned about return offense
almost looks like you could send the 5 towards your hole, and leave the cb in the stack
if not, I think I still like playing with the stack

Go off the 5 to the side rail and back about where you are now, closer to the bottom rail if you can. Why do you want to keep the cluster?

I don’t want to lose the benefit of already being ahead. Once I get a shot that’s 4 balls. With the ball positions right side is winning right now. Left side is stuck and I want to keep it that way.

The play by play before this is right side had a really good opening break, and left side has been on the defensive up until this shot. Plus right side missed a cross corner bank. Otherwise it wouldn’t look so bad right now.

One rail soft kick at the 3. That will push the 13 off the one toward your hole, keep the cluster mostly intact, and at worst you might leave a long rail bank or lose another point. I like pushing balls towards my hole.

I like shooting the 13 almost full in the face, maybe cutting it a little to the right, and stopping the cue ball there. The 3 goes to the rail and out a little, and the 13 drifts a few inches towards your hole. Leave his ass frozen on the 1 with the 5 ball blocking the 13 (which is now hopefully closer to your pocket).

Tell you what, you leave me here and you've most certainly lost. I'd bank the 5 one rail into the corner so it will spot. I'd stop the cue ball on the 13, so there is no easy bump to the rail.

Cut the 10 and draw whitey towards the side pocket. 9 is going to a rail so whitey doesn't have to.
