Online Gaming Was Not Made Illegal!!!!

What kind of bs is going on?.....The only thing that was made illegal was for banks and credit card companies to send or receive money from gaming sites......This doesn't mean anything is illegal for the person betting or being involved in online gaming...So why does trudeau keep saying they signed something making online gaming illegal!!!!!!!!!!

how are you supposed to get money in an out of these accounts without using a bank to process the transaction

paypal used to ,then they stopped. you can use neteller, western union, old fashioned check and money order.

no you cant use any of those.......thats why netellers stock plummeted when the new law was announced...........you might be able to use a check but i dont think banks wanna mess with the gov,so i doubt that will fly either

You sure can, but that takes out all the impulse betting that is accomplished when using your credit card or any other quick fix to pay.

I got a feeling that IF you are out of money during a hand, the other players won't wait till you go to western union or mail off a money order!

I just used neteller no less then 5 minutes ago. There are plenty of 3rd party carriers that have found ways to circumvent the new law. Plus the new law still has to be enforced. The problem with enforcing this new law is the coding for each transaction that goes through the bank.

Hasn't online gambling always been illegal? I don't think it was ever legal to bet online, but the gov't has bigger problems then that.

Jamie...<<This doesn't mean anything is illegal for the person betting or being involved in online gaming...>>

I see where you are coming from but in fact, on-line gambling or any other form of gambling that is not specifically legal in any given state is illegal.

On-line gambling is illegal in most if not every state except via approved/licensed vendors such as state lotteries for example and I am not sure that even then you can buy lottery tix on-line.

The new law targeted the PAYMENT of gambling debts/credits only because it is impractical to "catch" people gambling on line.

But circumventing the law seems like child's play by LOTS of means...including obtaining foreign bank credit cards and/or the purchase of the equivalent of pre-paid "phone cards."

Without question, with $100 BILLION on the line, the problem will get fixed one way or the other.

Regards,
Jim

In Japan it's illegal to gamble. So you go into a Pachinko parlor and you amass buckets of little steel balls that you can trade in for prizes. Among all the normal consumer goods such as MP3 players and like are little boxes of cheap trinkets. If you get these you can then walk out of the Pachinko place and around the corner to a "trinket collector" who will be happy to "buy" your trinkets and give you cash for them.

What will the US do if the casinos start giving their customer's atm cards? If you win then they make a deposit into a foreign account and the customer can go to the ATM and take it out.

I can imagine that there are plenty of ways around this. I can see casinos setting up dummy corporations with member "service" charges that mirror the "free" credits and "free play" on gaming sites. They'll just insulate themselves so well that the goverment won't be able to keep up.

As noted however, the impending law (has Bush signed it yet?) is just a convenient excuse for Trudeau as the money was supposed to be guaranteed.

Neteller is still working. I was concerned and pulled about half of my money out of PokerStars. They are still up and running. Party Poker shut down all U.S. accounts. I'm out of action there, but they are also honoring withdrawals for a 270 day grace period, or so they say.

ok you can still use neteller and other 3rd parties to process transactions because the law has been signed and not gone into force. it doesnt go into force for about 8 months...once that happens then no mas

Today's paper printed an article out of New York about the Bill showing a picture of David Carruthers, former CEO of BetOnSports, leaving Federal Courthouse in St Louis. He faces 22 counts of fraud and racketeering. The article states that the US Gov't has no authority over Neteller.

You can still use Netteller. They, like all banks and credit card companies, have 9 months to comply with the new law. Partypoker, CD Poker(Club Dice), and a few others have suspended all US accounts, but still operate for the rest of the world. Others like Full Tilt, Bodog, and Prima are still up and running for everyone.

I am starting a new business, so I have been designing my website. When I go to pay for it, the only way they have listed is to pay through e-gold. I had never heard of that.

So I set up an e-gold account and try to figure out for a whole day how to get money into that account, when I stumble onto some links on their website that lets you buy gold bullion to back your account from an exchange service.

After hitting all 16 sites, they either want you to pay by certified check or MO, and finally on the last site, I have the ability to go to my local Wells Fargo branch and deposit the exact amount into their account, which will fund my e-gold account. Most of those sites were from different countries, like Nigeria, and Germany.

I wonder if this method is being used to circumvent the restrictions on banking. After all, the bank is only funding egold. What you do with that egold is a different matter.

Nigeria is a well known center for different types of financial fraud and a host of other scams. Think carefully before giving any personal info.
