Hmmm no wonder the final was on just now so just 1 day instead of 2 days finish
Earl lost to Mike Dechaine after missing the 10 down the rail in 3rd last rack. Earl was nuts to propose playing one set of race to 9 instead of double set double elimination. Mike would have to win 2 sets if they had played double set
What New York State 10 Ball Championship? I've lived in New York State for sixty nine years. Never heard or seen a flyer or post about this event. Then again, Greater New York City is its own world. Who cares about the fifty percent who live above the Tappan Zee bridge!

I was looking forward to a weekendof the tournament and was, as well, disappointed in no only the turnout, (2 called in sick, zion and Jeremy) but the event being 1 day only. guess I will go this afternoon to the 8 ball match locally for $$$. my other disappointment was earl losing to mike AGAIN this week. that is 2 weekends in a row!so having his girlfriend there last night did not help and may not have helped when he got back home with her either.
al, and possibly right in saying, that there are too many tournaments in the same weekend and therefore not enough going to just one venue. probably partially true. why the tournament directors do not coordinate better defies logic.......
Earl's got a new girlfriend? :grin-loving:
Pictures, please.![]()
I agree, Lyn. I saw a poster somewhere a few weeks ago, but who's on first and who's on second? How many players? What's the payouts? Who's left in the tournament?
I've run many tournaments in the past: local, regional, and national. One of the first things I did was spread the news. I managed to get one of my tournaments a spot on local television, PM Magazine. I had Chet Morris there doing trick shows for the TV public, because that's what they think pool is, but I spread the news.
In this age of social media and the Internet, there is no excuse for a tournament promoter/director not have the means to get the message out there about the event.
I guess we'll never know what happened at the NY State 10-Ball Championship. :scratchhead:
If they don't care, then neither do I.![]()
Amateurs are getting smarter. Before they throw in there entry fee they find out who is playing in the tournament and asking themselves, "Do I really have a chance to cash if I play my best game?" Earl, Mike D, Shaw, and a few shortstops in a small field is a waste of a weekend for them IMO. If you want to play pros or shortstops and you're a "C" or "B" player, go to one of the local action rooms and get a spot from one or more of them for cheap sets. You will learn quicker. JT
I believe the reason for the small turnout was that the Castle Billiards Spring Classic was this weekend. According to Facebook they had 80+ players.
Advertising failure. They were letting everyone know some of the best in the country would be there. That might attract some, but turn off more.
Castles in NJ and MR Cue in Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY are about 100 mile apart. About 50 miles each from NYC. They're both poolrooms in different states, I would be surprised if they tried to work it out. Wonder who had the date first? JT
It's pretty much the same pool of players Johnny. The two rooms are only 51 driving miles apart with NYC in between but closer to Castle by 20 miles.
