CHINO -- when deciding where to spend your pool time and money always support the room owner who treats his customers the best . A owner that gets to know all the patrons on a first name basis , understands what players want in a pool room and is not afraid to give discounts to regulars who treat the room and the owner with respect . IMO you are right about what happened . Don't settle for less !!!

I mean he is generally a nice guy, I respect him, his room, his equipment, and I always play with full etiquette. I don't go banging his sticks on the table when I am pissed, or banging the balls on the table hard. I respect the game a lot.

CHINO... Also... You can't go wrong with playing at SHOOTERS . It is one of the most famous rooms in the world . Dan Tull is a great guy and his staff is very good . Your game will improve just by playing and hanging out there !!!

Haha, I like Shooters a lot as well. I went up there once with Eric. (fellow AZ'er) and I love their tables, They keep that place in really good shape, not to mention the food is good lol.

OK guys, I'm over the situation now, I'm not even pissed anymore, and the cigarette is finally great again I'll just mention it to the owner when I go down there next time, and I am thinking of switching rooms to Shooters. Danny is no longer running the 14.1 league at Ray Rec. There isn't enough people to play. We need three more players to keep it running if anyone is interested to join.

Well sounds like you are a straight up guy and that it is reasonable for the owner to have already known that to be the case as you were far from a stranger to him.

You deserve an apology and if he is worth his salt you shouldn't have to ask for it once you've calmly explained to him that you were a bit unhappy with the way it was dealt with.

Some people make reservations but never show up. I probably would have left a deposit for table time, especially if it's the only snooker table and popular enough to warrant a reservation.

It is a 10 foot pool table, but being a 10 footer, it is the closest thing around to a snooker table. I don't know anywhere around KC that has a snooker table, an actual 6x12

I agree, but the customer shouldn't be led to believe it was otherwise- nor should the customer flatter himself by thinking the room would turn a sure rental down in favor of an expected one.

Too many coulda-wouldas...irrelevant, except now you know what to do next time. Give the deposit, impress you Dad by getting him on the table and showing that it was important to you to do so. Extend the hand to the room by making it a guaranteeed thing. (and get a receipt w/ date, time, $!)

And, it is actually principle. Principal runs the School.

IMO, the only fact that is relevant is that the business is there to make $. If dingo behind the counter thinks it is in his best interest to rent to someone who is there, even though he knows he stated availability to an incoming party...well that sucks if the incoming party shows up.

Do I think dingo thinks about this until it plays out? Nope.

I wish I could just go back and enjoy the time spent with my dad and not let the little stuff (or the big stuff for that matter) get in the way of that.

Should have asked the guys on the table when they finished the game... tell them you reserved and the owner gave the table away, dad came in outta town or something to visit and play some. If they gave the shove-off, setup shop beside them and be as loud and annoying as possible. I would bet these guys probably said, screw that, we come here all the time and want the table.

That said, regulars is money in the bank and hard to turn away when you don't know if the other guy is showing.

I would be pissed for them giving the table away and as a regular would be pissed that I spend loads of money and can't play. The owner should toss a bone for the grief.

Yea, I'm over it, next time I know what to do to make sure I'm going to get my table. I still think it was the owners duty to tell the customer that he wants a deposit or whatever to hold the table and state the conditions rather than just saying sure I'll hold it for you than don't. I'll go talk to him about it today. Just tell him that not reserving the table for me was not right and if wasn't going to hold the table, he should've just told me so. You won't hurt my feelings telling me no reservation.

I never took reservations at any poolroom I owned. Unless it was for a big party and they paid a deposit in advance. That said, if the owner gave his word, he should abide by it. He probably figured you weren't going to show up anyway. That may have happened to him before with advance reservations. To guarantee the table, I would have paid him one hours time in advance. That would have solidified your reservation and let him know you were definitely coming back.

Like someone else said, in the overall scheme of things it ain't that bad. Sleep on it and you'll get it in perspective the next day. Not a bad idea to go back (when you calm down) and talk to the owner about it. He should offer you some free table time to make up for it IMO. Don't be afraid to ask him for some free time to make up for the inconsideration. You'll find out if he's any good or not.

Couldn't have said it any better. I was reading about Chuck Daley, former coach of the Pistons. He would always cool down before confronting a player, and usually it would be the next day. I think everyone should follow that.

10 in Missouri
5 in Kansas
2 in Nebraska
4 in Iowa

Maybe you'll find a different place to visit that you'll like better.

Once the list is posted, please let me know if you're aware of other pool halls, rec centers, or private clubs with snooker tables. They can be hard to find.

There are 10 in Missouri???? Really, please let me know where they are, if I find anything more in the MO area, I'd definitely let you know. But it looks like you are 9 ahead of me, I only know of that one in Ray Rec.

I am totally over the situation and I didn't even bother talking with the owner, I just took it as a lesson and know what I have to do next time.

I used to work in a pool hall and this is how we dealt with reserves:

We would get calls to reserve tables starting at the time they open. Basically if someone was on the table at 7pm and someone else had it reserved for 8 it didn't mean we kicked em off the table at 8. What it meant was that they would play the amount of time they desired and the person who had the 8pm time reserved would get it next.

I could reserve a table for 8 and be lucky to get it at 10pm....that's just the way it goes.

What you are talking about is a double edged sword. You expect the owner to dump one customer for another.....either way a customer is going to be pissed off about it and I'd imagine the one playing will be more pissed off than the one not playing.

Yea, well I didn't know that is how it worked, now I know that there is no such thing as reserving a pool table. He could've let me know ahead so it wouldn't have wasted my dad and my time, we would've just stayed home or did something else, rather than getting my dad's hopes up that he could go play snooker. Like I said though, I don't care about the situation anymore, so next time if my dad can make it down there, I'd just call ahead of time to see if the table is open or just go down there early when I know the table is open.

Hopefully Rethunk has found me somewhere else in my area that has another snooker table for my pops to play on.

Hi all,

So right now, I am in a pretty crappy mood, here is the cause of it:

Today, my dad told me he wanted to play snooker, so I told him, great, there is Big Bertha down at Ray Rec. So I personally go down to Ray Rec around 6pm and told the owner, I want to reserve Big Bertha, and I will be in here around 8:30 to 9PM with my dad because he wanted to play snooker. So the owner marks it down and told me sure thing.

After I got finished with dinner with my pops, he took his one piece snooker cue with him to Ray Rec. As I go down there, it was 8:45PM, and two regulars were down there playing. So I told the owner, wassup with that? He said, oh they are gambling. I asked, how long are they going to be, and he just sort of ignored me and told me, I don't know. I took a set of pool balls, and started playing on the GC and I was pretty pissed off the whole time.

I personally think that if I reserved the table, I have the right to the table. Maybe some of you guys see this differently, maybe I am overreacting, but I don't think that he acted ethically business wise. What do you all think? Yes, I understand they are gambling, but he should have told them before they got on Big Bertha that someone is coming in at 8:30 to 9:00 and I would need this table by than. I might be just throwing a fit like a child, but F**K that sh!t.

I think I am not going to go back down there after this incident and just start going to Shooters in Olathe. It is a much further drive, but I'd rather spend the gas money than get treated like I don't pay like everyone else.

Pool is not like golf or a restaurant. It really is more like a first come, first serve business. I understand your beef, but in all fairness be real. You reserved a table verbally. Did you put money down and prepay? I doubt it. It is very difficult for anyone to hold a table. Were you willing to pay double time?

Like I said, I understand your beef but don't too hard on the guy. Next time, throw him some money up front and you will probably be fine. If not, you will definitely have something to ***** about.

If I knew I had to throw down a down payment, I would've did it with no questions asked. We have gone over it a few times in the past page, thanks for the thought though, I will run that by the owner if I ever try to reserve a table again. I don't have beef or anything with the owner, like I have said, it was probably just miscommunication or what-not, I don't stress it anymore, I have gotten over it.
