Hey Y'all,

Well I've been looking for a table for sometime now and while I was surfing craigslist today I stumbled upon this..

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/spo/608104651.html

Please tell me what you guys think about the price, quality of manufacturer, and legitimacy of the story of the table.

I don't know much about Tables, so your comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I was curious about that table as well, I like the looks of it (don't worry, no room to put it :) )

You can't beat the price, if you live in the neighborhood. That's a Gandy Big G, not a bad table. Fairly loose pockets is all. You can have then tightened up.

Don't forget that the profile is different than most other tables, it will bank and kick much different from a Brunswick or Diamond. The part of the rail that the ball contacts sits up higher than normal, and it does effect play

I just remember that Gandy's played slow and soft. We used to see a lot of them in the 60's and 70's.

i played on Gandys for years at Ferroni's Billiards in Modesto, where Kim Davenport played-came up for that matter, they played good the rails were low and the ball would jump if you hit it a bit hard, so they raised the rails a bit and the problem was solved, for the price its a good deal, its a cool piece of history if the claim of the greats playing on it are true. You cant go wrong, just have a good mechinic set it up and you'll be good.

He's been trying to sell this table since last November and his last price was $2500. Looks like he's dumping it. He's also got on eBay for $750 as well.

I'd do two things:
1) send Allen Hopkins an email with a link to the sale and get his take on the accuracy of the claim.
and
2) take a drive out and inspect the table for yourself.

If it checks out, $750 is hard to beat.

Best,
Mike

As Jay said, you can't beat the price, and like Fatboy said, have a pool mechanic set it up for ya, I think you'll like it very much.

If any of you'd like, I can stop in and take a look at this table as I'll be in the area of the table next week while I'm delivering Diamond tables;)

suge,

if you can pull this off your a lucky man, the price is great, Glen is great and you'll have a great box 100% dialed in less than a week, it would be foolish to pass this up if your even half serious about getting a box. Things like this dont line up often but when they do ya gotta pounce on them. lock the deal down ASAP!!!

I had a Gandy Big G and found it to be an excellent practice table for the money. Mine was $700 and not nearly as nice as the one pictured. The rails gave me no problems, but I regretted not having it shimmed and covered in Simonis 860. I would own another but spend the money setting it up with at least double shimmed pockets and fast cloth. Do it right the first time and you will be very happy.

Thanks Guys!

I really appreciate you guys taking a look. Thanks for all the responses!

Glen, that is a really nice offer! I will shoot you a PM in a few and see what we can work out.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks for the info Mike!

My Experience

I have had a Gandy Big "G" since 1999. It as good as anything out there in my opinion. For $750, you can't lose! It is the only table I have played on that two balls got locked in the corner pocket and stuck there. I don't think you could call them buckets. I played on a new Diamond table yesterday and the pockets were much the same. You can not put two balls in side by side. JMHO
Purdman :)

Glen,
Thanks for putting things in perspective for me.
I look forward to talking with you again very soon!

I recently purchased a Big G and had it rebuilt with new rubber, extended rails 4.5 pockets with Simonis 860. It plays as good as any table in Atlanta. This is my second Big G both are excellent tables.
