Opinions wanted on re-wrap!

Hello,

Attached is a pic of my main playing cue (a Schon R-12/15) that I'm considering putting a new wrap on. I'm considering black leather lizard imprint, real black lizard and possibly black and white ring tail lizard like the one on the Alex Brick cue posted on the for sale forum. What do you guys/gals think? Would appreciate any suggestions.

Any texture of black leather wrap would look great on that cue. You may also consider solid black linnen, or black w/white spec linnen.
 
I had lizard on my playing cue, and it just doesn't hold up like linen. The seam kept coming loose at my grip point and I had it repaired several times. Finally I switched to linen.

Lizard is OK for a collector cue that doesn't get much play. But if you use the cue often, plan on problems.
 
I just got back my Mottey from Kenny "Flyngsnail" Koo and I absolutely love it. It is a real Lizard wrap and it looks great. I will be posting pics either tonight, or this weekend along with my whole experience with Kenny. I will repost in this thread with with the shortcut. The cue was out of my hands for 9 days total. You cant go wrong with Kenny doing the wrap. Hes a hell of a guy too. Went above and beyond to make me happy.

I play a lot and just gon't like it when the leather starts getting sticky....
 
Black Leather

I would do texture black leather wrap, they look so:cool:

I would go with elephant ear or stingray. If possible try a cue that has a wrap that you are considering.

A solid black stack wrap would be pretty sporty IMO. Nice cue.

If there is nothing wrong with the linen that is on it......... leave it alone.... ;)

My Schon is getting a new Cork wrap....as soon as I find someone who does them. That, or glove leather, I tried a cue that was done in glove leather and it was perfect!
 
Thanks for all the replies and compliments thus far! I do appreciate them! Nothing wrong with the linen wrap on it now except it's dirty. Funny thing is the wrap looks better in the pic than it does in person. Would the camera flash do that? Weird.

I definitely want to try out some textured leather wraps before I proceed. I may very well end up sticking with the linen. Anyway, thanks again everyone! Should I decide to proceed with the re-wrap, I will post some pics.

I think you are nuts. Cue looks like the nuts right now. Any lizard skin is going to peel at some point. Just not tough enough. A black leather won't pick up the cue like the wrap you have. If there is any green in the cue, I'd use cortland green. Totally classic. Otherwise, get Mike Webb to put a new wrap, same color, on the cue. Best in the business.

p.s. If you hate it after the new wrap, I'll take the cue off your hands! Cheap!!!!!:D LOL

I am pretty blunt, and have definite opinions about wraps. The double white/grey with black specs, or vica versa, has colors to match the cue, but it's style I find very boring looking. It just isn't something that grabs your attention. It's a 'run of the mill' look. It looks like someone that wears a 'twead' sportscoat all the time.

I can not tell whether your veneer is a blueish or greenish color, but going with a wrap darker than the veneer color, leather or not, would make it stand out more, and give contrast to the black buttsleeve, and would grab your attention more.

Even a double pressed solid black linen wrap would look sharper on the cue, or a color of your veneer with maybe a slight black spec in it.

Just because colors match, does not guarantee that it has 'style'. I probably came by this honestly, as my folks were always redecorating their home as I grew up, and my mom always had an eye for knowing how to decorate with style, and putting things together that look real good. My Dad was in the car business, and had an eye for details.

For leather, the Cortland green color suggestion is probably good, but compare color of the leather to the veneer color before buying. Or if the veneer is blue, the a slightly darker blue leather that is a little on the muted side would look good.
 
For those who can't tell the veneer colors from the pic, the veneers are blue and black in color. Four veneers of blue, black, blue, black on ebony points. The ebony butt sleeve has one black and one blue veneer around each ivory window.

Cork Wrap

Jim Sickles (aka Billiardbum on AZ) does a fantastic cork wrap.He did one on my Franklin Southwest and I couldnt be more pleased with the fit & finish, plus the feel is awesome! I would also put Jims leather wraps up against anyones.
