I have always used HSS for parting tool and keep resharpening them as needed. Seem like the edge doesnt last long to say the least. Are there carbide parting tools available? Has anybody used them? I usually like about a 1/32 wide but have one that is 1/16 for cutting hard tips. Works realy well with light passes and doesnt wreck the tip. Thanks for any advise.

Carbide last longer, but cost much more.
Just make a habit of touching up you HSS parting tool every time you use it.

For carbide parting blades, I like the Thin Bit series from the Kaiser Tool Company.
A diamond wheel is the only proper way to resharpen the end of them, or a diamond lap with a lapping fixture.

I am using live cutter. the blade is 0.035 For when I am cutting rings.

I have also have a small saw blade on a router for cutting rings but Im just looking for something quick load on my tool post for simply cutting things off. Are the carbide cutter you described 1/32?

I use HSS for parting stuff out.
Sharpened, they work great for single layered tips too.

Where do you get the blade from ?

Live cutter part off set up.
3 in blade mounted on a ridged trimmer, 1/4 x 1/4 arbor .

24 slot rings blade width 0.035 to 0.038 . Dremel mounted 1/8 in arbor
I bought a dozen sets of these. I would rate them as cheap and barley does the job

Guys, please be careful!

If the saw blade says Max RPM 8000, the please don't spin it faster!

There are carbide slitting saws out there that can spin faster.

The parting tool I use now exclusively is the P1-N (HSS) that is available from the eBay store that sells the A2Z QC set for the mini-lathe,Taig,etc.

It's a standard 1/2 height T-profile parting tool,but very economical on material because it's only .040/1mm wide.

It was usable right out of the box,and although I haven't used it on anything but ferrule materials and even 1/2 aluminum rod,it still does it's job 100% as well as it did when new,to the point where even after a few hundred uses,it STILL hasn't needed to be reground yet.

Maybe it wouldn't work on Ivorine-4,but after years of use,it still cuts melamine or phenolic rod with VERY little effort.

The width might make it too flexible to do tips with though,I've never tried it. Tommy D.
