Paul Portier should NOT be in the booth!

Cory and Jason were a little off in their match.

Paul Portier is NAUSEATING!!!! Waaaaaaay to much talking / explaining.

"Now this is the type of rack that lends itself to the fast play of Shaw, wait now there he should of slowed up a bit"
"Corey should do this Shaw should do that bla bla bla bla"
Someone really thought THEY (Paul) should still be in the tournament.
Well YOU ARE NOT get over it.
Now go show everyone else how to break. You know the guys STILL IN THE tournament!
I just heard about 100 times how you are the best breaker to ever play!

Hint: we don't need your prediction of EVERY shot! Which many times was contrary to what they did. We also don't need to know how YOU would have played it and what THEY ( the guys still playing) did "wrong" according to you.
50% less of everything you said would've been just fine!

Mark and Wych were fine in the Earl vs. SVB match. See I don't hate them all.

I couldn't believe all the things he was saying about Shaw. He's obviously been out of it for a long time to act like Shaw is a total amateur that might one day get good <<<<< Really??? This guy must live in the woods somewhere to come with a comment like that!! Shaw gives him the 6 out he's stealing. Do some research before to eliminate showing ignorance. You're suppose to know a little but about the player. He just won at Turning Stone in a real tough field....

Last night, he claimed he wrote hundreds of articles in the nineties for a Japanese billiards magazine. I posted that this was a perfect deception because you can't fact check him since how many azbilliard members are pool savvy and fluent in Japanese. Well, my friend, you are the ONE! Please research and see if he really wrote articles on pool in Japanese.

He has been a coach and instructor for many years so it wouldn't surprise me if he wrote articles in English and had them translated into Japanese (Paul has been to Japan many times and knows many Japanese players and friends living there).

And shaw was winning turning stone (inthis day and age its close to a major) on a free stream on the biggest billiards site in the world. But never seen him play

I suppose it could be researched but why? If he really wrote those articles and is proud of that, you can be assured he would have some magazines or scans to show himself. But, obviously if he did write anything, it was in English and translated to Japanese by someone else.

Good point, why bother. The evidence is already there

Paul: This guy was annoying as all hell.

Geoff: is just terrible. He doesn't seem to understand anything about the game, can hear every annoying breath he takes.

Jim Wych: Personally I find his commentary annoying. He should stick with snooker.

Mark Wilson: has a lot of good things to say but the lisp is tough to fade over the course of a day.

John Schmidt: actually pretty good.

Bill Gibbs: WITHOUT A DOUBT the best on this US Open stream. Knowledgable, easy to listen to.

Six out means nothing but that. Tiger Woods instructor could Never beat him in his life, but he see's and knows when matters should be looked at from a different perspective or mechanics need work etc. He knows from experience and years of teaching how important ones foundation of play is, as the player evolves. I'm sure he lives in the woods, that's Canada

They are all annoying, even the so called legends.
It's almost like a test to see who thinks they know more about pool.
Constantly saying what the player is going to do or should do, freaking mind readers,The Amazing Kreskin, and wrong quite often.

If they want to educate the general public, get a telestrator, show the options the player has and comment on the options.

Something like this, he can follow 2 rails and out with right spin, or he can punch it over off the rail, or possibly draw out for the 3 ball.

OK,he elected to draw, good shot and he is on the 3, and so on and so on.
You can do that in the time it takes a player to chalk, and draw it.

Any decent player can see the options in 3 damm seconds, what is so freakin hard to call out options.

Most of them just love to hear themselves talk, popularity contest.
Shaddap and call the game

I use large screen and mute is my first click of the mouse

Wilson has much more knowledge than Billy here, especially when it comes to pattern building and when one must choose between offense and defense. Billy's OK except when paired with Conway.

Good to see Jerry Forsyth doing the current match. He's always a solid listen.

... Maybe he will get a second chance and adjust his commentary some.

He didn't have a good night but give him another chance. After all, pool's usually double knockout, isn't it?

The Deuel / Shaw match was the second one for Potier. He also commentated the van den Berg / Moore match with Mark Wilson on Monday.

His "style" was the same in both matches.

Agreed. Paul was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. His predictions and analysis are nearly as bad as those of Geoff Conway, but Geoff has the right voice for commentary and has a decent feel for today's pool scene off the table. Paul, in contrast, combines empty and verbose analysis with a lack of command of today's pool scene both on and off the table.

Seems I owe Geoff an apology for calling him the worst commentator. Sorry Geoff.
Very true!!! And Lmao at the "apology"!!

That was pathetic

Thought the same about the lisp.

Could you at least spell his name correctly if you're going to rant about him? (Potier)
So sorry. That is minor. Seems like everyone somehow???? figured out who I was referring to.

I couldn't stand Potier as a commentator. Never shut up and way too much of a know it all. Turned the volume off. He had no business commentating this match. Terrible.

Tough crowd on opinions about who's the best commentator! :p

The crown jewel of pool is, without a doubt, Jerry Forsyth. Billy Incardona comes in second place for me, but it's close. Both know the game inside and out. I love Jerry's Souther accent, for one thing, and his little tidbits about the players, but Billly's insights are cool, as he's been in combat and sees pool from a differerent vantage than Jerry. These two would make beautiful music if they were commentating together. I miss Billy this year.

Billy Incardona and Nick Varner were doing the commentating together a couple of
weeks ago at the Smokin Aces big 1pocket event Billy was great as usual lot of insights

John has been exceptional, and has often deferred to his commentary partner. The best commentating teams in many sports have one guy who focuses on the play and another who keeps it light, is supportive of the analyst, and keep things moving along. Mark Wilson and John Schmidt have been a truly wonderful team because they both understand their respective roles.

Let's hope we get some more of John in the booth. He's great, not to mention funny as hell.

This..... When John and Mark are commentating I am loving it. The other guys a lot of times I turn the sound down.
