Pawn Shop Cues

Pawn Shop Finds

Meucci Fish Hook - $40

Meucci Piano Cue - $60

It's George Case - $25

Jensen Plain Jane - $80

Richard Black Plain Jane - $200 but it was stolen from someone I know and when I found it I told him about it.

New 4 Point Espiritu - $200

Same pawn shop two weeks later another good condition 4 point identical to the other Espiritu and was only - $40??? Make sense? Didn't to me but I didn't question it. lol

Espiritu Plain Jane - $40

Funny thing was all 3 of the Espiritu cues came from same pawn shop.

Original Palmer in original Palmer case - $15 No Lie!!

Rick Howard early 90's sneaky pete - $10 - Was warped bad.

All this was over about a 5 year period and at least 10 years ago. I cant seem to recall any other real good finds other than the usual McDermott $100 cues for around $30.

Thanks,
Josh Hillard

Not at a pawn shop but a neighborhood garage sale.
Early block letter 68-72 Joss with 4 points 4 veneers, ebony butt, fancy ringed s/s joint, 2 shafts with ivory ferrels (one is chipped) and Fellini case.
Paid full asking price of $50 and still have it.

I wish I could find a pawnshop like yours. Where I live, I see nothing worth paying $10

No not necessarily. I have bought alot of cues for very little, from thier owners. My friend $takehor$e and I have cash and when people want to get rid of a cue we buy them.

I insure my cues, and if they get stolen or damaged, Im covered.

Guns, Corvettes, cues, coins are items that I collect. People die, get divorced, inherit, etc. Things come up for sale or pawned all the time.

Its called life. ;)

Ken

I have not seen any of your Corvettes man! I would like to check them out, maybe you loan me one to cruise in.

Huebler

I found the Huebler Silver Jubilee that is on ebay right now for $650.00 (accept its not the silver Jubilee) picked it up for $85 bucks!

I went to a pawn shop once and the guy had 5 cues all in box cases. Iopened case #1 and it was a C-series McDermott in pretty good shape. Without opening the other 4 cases I asked how much for all 5. $60 later I had 3 C-series McDermotts, a very old Palmer and one early Mali. I still go to that pawn shop today...

Pawn shop in Reno in 04 on my birthday. Got a Sheldon Lebow w/3 shafts in an old 3x7 Instroke in perfect shape and another 2x4 Instroke case with a jump stick for $400. I asked him at the door if he knew what he had and he told me don't worry about it he made his money on it. Sold the 2x4 for $150 and just sold the Lebow for $700 after shooting with it for 5 years.

I bought a Schon at a local pawn shop (cash covertors) for $50.00 and sold the cue (shaft had few minor dings in it) for $500.00 the next night at league ..found out later the next week the guy sold it for $1200.00 LOL ah well still a profit right

Anytime you make a profit you are doing OK. After all it's much better than taking a loss.

best things I've found

Which granted I'm not quite the aficiandio that you gentlemen are, though around here it seems there's also one guy in each pawn shop as a worker who's hobby is the turn around game. But i did go into a local pawn shop and check 4 cases. And they were terrible cases, beaten up and ragged out, but in 2 of the 4 I found players butts with predator 314's still in the sleeves. The other two were semi decent Lucasi's. Paid the guy 100 bucks for all 4. Sold one predator for like 145, the lucasi's for 125 both [ one had a slight warp] and kept the other player/ predator 314 as my own until I sold and traded up.

My husband is always at the pawn shops around Muskogee and in Tulsa when he is up there. So far in the past year he has bought a Jerico J/B, 5 Schon cues, a Tim Scruggs S/P, 4 Joss cues, a really nice Eddie Farris cue with lots of Ivory, maybe 6 McDermotts, 2 Predator S/P, and the current cue he is playing with now a Bluegrass.

Most of the cues he has bought from Pawn Shops have been sold here on AZ. Although, he tried to sell the Bluegrass on here but didnt have any luck so he gave it to our 16yr old nephew because he is really getting into pool

What's the best cue you ever saw/bought at a pawn store? Any custom cues?

I used to go to the pawn shops around town and it didn't take long for me to see that these pawn shops here where I live are nuts. I walked in to one shop and asked a fellow if he had any pool cues for sale. He pulled out a couple of banged up Meucci cues along with a Meucci retail price list and started quoting close to retail for well used Meuccis. I tried to explain to the guy that his prices were way out of line for a used cue, but it was useless. I haven't been back to a pawn shop to look for a pool cue. I have heard of some deals that others have found, but I couldn't be sure if the stories were true on not.

Last year I was working with my Nephew on his pool game. He was wanting to get good enough to join a league. He called me one day and said he was at the pawn shop in town, and if I knew if a Jackabe cue was any good. He said they have one here in a leather case for $40. I said spell it, and he said Jacoby. I said buy it, and if you don't like, it I will pay you for it. He bought the cue and brought it out for me to try out. It is a very nice Jacoby cue in a leather Instroke case, both in great shape. It plays very nice, awesome cue and case for young guy learning the game. That reminds me, think I'll make a run by the pawn shop tomorrow. (lol)

This is a great thread!

I found the Huebler Silver Jubilee that is on ebay right now for $650.00 (accept its not the silver Jubilee) picked it up for $85 bucks!

*** Ive read a lot about people putting a cloud over this thread due to the "stolen property" aspect of finding GREAT DEALS at pawn shops.

So im going to expand on my find a bit....

See I personally knew (knew of him through a mutual accquantance), the previous owner of the huebler i found. So i also knew a little history with it.

I saw it 1st about 3 years ago now. year after that he dropped off scene, and found it at a pawn shop. $130 bucks i believe. I wanted to pick it up then, but I was 100% positive It was his, and I had herd his litte bro pawned it. I got in touch with him and told him where to find it. (cause that is the type of person I am).

after I told him it sat in the shop for at least 60 days!! (i would have picked it up right away!)

then it was gone... I never knew for sure if he picked it up or not. but I felt kinda robbed if he didnt cause I could have for a good deal then!

fast forward to about 6 months ago, FOUND IT AGAIN! new pawn shop, new area of town! no where close! (yes the EXACT same one, too many details to list how I knew)

picked it up this time and will never let it go again!

On the flip side of things I found a Meucci FR-1 (awesome fiddleback!) in another pawn shop for $80! great shape! blackdot shaft. good find!

had it 2 years, got low on cash, (yep I did it) re-pawned it, for $65 because I WAS SURE I could repay the cash in 2 weeks, guess what!? yeah... nope lost it.
Im sure someone else got a great deal due to my supidity!

Moral of the story: Ya just never know the history of it, so dont assume it was stolen. I've lost and won at the pawn shop!

Found my cousin's old Dufferin that had been stolen a year earlier in a local pawn shop for $50. Refinished it and gave it to him for christmas. Way cool!!:yeah::yeah:

Ayyeeeeee....got a call from a friend that works in a local pawn shop......Tim Scruggs Sneaky with 1 shaft, broken ferrul, no tip....85.00:)

Honestly if you go to a PAWN SHOP expecting to find a BALABUSHKA, or ZAMBOTI (both of which I am sure I spelled wrong) for next too nothing I say good luck, as most PAWN BROKERS are 110% SMARTER than most of the people doing business with them.

Most Pawn Brokers are sharp cookies, and shrude (spelled wrong) businessmen, and honestly I have found few deal in a PAWN SHOP, and IMHO most items offered for sale be it firearms, pool cues, pool cues cases, etc. are grossly over priced.

My buddy who was a L.A.P.D. Retiree had a PAWN SHOP in the mother Lode AREA of Cali, he gave little of the value of most items, got fooled seldom on the value of items, bought most items for pennies on the dollar from people down, and out, or those who had shall we say to be diplomatic LOW CREDIT SCORES.

When it came time to sell the pawned item that were not picked up he tried to make a MAXIMUM PROFIT on what he had his Dollar Tied up in for 5-6 months.

I use to ask him kiddingly if there were any deal in his Pawn Shop, and his honest answer was no.

I am not trying to discourage anyone from trying to find a DEAL or a Cue or Case in a PAWN SHOP but IMHO you would be better off shopping Garage and Estate Sales for the Holy Grail of a DEAL

I sit and read all these stories and I can't help but wonder why pawn shop would not research a pool cue on the internet before offering it for super low prices.

Maybe those pawn shops mentioned should invest in an internet connection?

The pawn shop I deal with does have internet connection. The computer is only as smart as the people running them, and most of the people that work in this pawn shop are really not that smart ( sorry to all the not so smart people out there, didnt mean to offend you)

The deal with the TS SP I just got, the shaft isnt any good at all, but the butt is in nice shape. I will have to get a shaft for it. The guy that I got it off of owns the pawn shop and he will give me good deals on some things that come in through there..

But for the most part, you dont really get a good deal from a pawn shop....once in a blue moon you will...but its not a very commen thing
