Pawn Shop Cues

I have got 78 Vipers and 62 Minnesota Fats cues from pawn shops. They only cost me $40-$60 a piece. Man, those pawn shops didn't know what they had......besides the sucker who bought them:).

By the way, this thread has made me really hate some of you guys. I have got a few ok deals at pawn shops, but usually see junk or stuff priced too high. I think they should make it a federal law making it illegal for pawn shops to have internet.

Josh...Wow, you found some amazing stuff!

Meucci Fish Hook - $40 good deal!

Meucci Piano Cue - $60 good deal!

It's George Case - $25 good deal!

Jensen Plain Jane - $80

Richard Black Plain Jane - $200 but it was stolen from someone I know and when I found it I told him about it.

New 4 Point Espiritu - $200

Same pawn shop two weeks later another good condition 4 point identical to the other Espiritu and was only - $40??? Make sense? Didn't to me but I didn't question it. lol

Espiritu Plain Jane - $40

Funny thing was all 3 of the Espiritu cues came from same pawn shop.

Original Palmer in original Palmer case - $15 No Lie!! REALLY good deal!

Rick Howard early 90's sneaky pete - $10 - Was warped bad.

All this was over about a 5 year period and at least 10 years ago. I cant seem to recall any other real good finds other than the usual McDermott $100 cues for around $30.

Thanks,
Josh Hillard

robert777...Uh...this wasn't, by chance, in the Seattle area, was it? That sure sounds like a JW that I owned (it was my first custom cue...but mine was made in '75...and stolen 5 days after I got it from Bill Stroud, at the Burlington, IA tournament). The guy who stole it, was moving to Seattle, and I rode with him, as a hitchiker, for 10 hrs. He ditched me, when I went to the bathroom. I had his name, address (old address), license number...but I never could find him! At least I got to play with the cue, for three days...AND beat Keith out of $1800, in 15 minutes!:grin: (probably one of very people to ever do that!). I miss that cue...:(

Not at a pawn shop but a neighborhood garage sale.
Early block letter 68-72 Joss with 4 points 4 veneers, ebony butt, fancy ringed s/s joint, 2 shafts with ivory ferrels (one is chipped) and Fellini case.
Paid full asking price of $50 and still have it.

Goodwill find...

This is a really amazing thread. I have a cue posted in the gallery ( http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=156856 ) that I picked up awhile ago at a local Goodwill for $4.99. Don't know what it is, but it is straight (enough) and is my most comfortable cue to play with- not to mention the only way I was going to be able to afford a vintage cue with real points.

Also found a lower-end Duffering for $7 that is straight as an arrow, and a cue that I listed on ebay a few weeks ago which sold for $152 (paid $5). Pics of this one below-

These stories hurt. I do hit up lots of pawn shops though. The last one I was at they wanted $700 for a Viking and $900 for a Willie Hoppe. I did pick up a beautiful 1968 Martin D28 for $450 at a pawn shop few years ago. For those that don't know, these go for 4-6k all day long.

found a 74 viking x90 with two safts and the matching hard snake skin case $40.00 trade value at the derby city classic 500.00  pawn shop find..

cues s found in PawnShop

I used to have a couple of oldies but goodies--

JWest 75.00----stolen 1995 or so--very plain design
sick green wrap, straight as an arrow

Meuci unsealed wrap also stolen 50.00 always can almost,
remember the color when I hear of one for sale kinda sick lavender wrap medium dark butt no points -
played really well.

I think I know who stole them and where they were sold --can't prove it.
And that pool hall wonders why I don't like to play there.

3 titlist cues and a 3x6 instroke

While on vacation in Santa Ana, CA, I decided to venture out to the swap meet and then a pawn store for kicks. Months before over the phone, I asked my dad if he ever saw pool cues during his swap meet visits. He said that they had a lot of old ones. When we got there, he kept pointing me to these old golf clubs, lol.

The pawn store was more interesting. I only went to one and I wasn't expecting much. First, the guy pulls out this ugly viking, $300. I'll pass. But then he goes for the "highend" stuff. Three unsigned converted titlists w/ a 3x6 instroke. The titlists were converted by an unknown. One of them had maple slotted ringwork that reminded of JW, but the butt was built weird so I don't know. It had some type of plastic above and below the wrap. The joint wasn't like anything used today too. The veneers were pretty ugly. I should have brought a camera to shoot pics and show. First time I saw a titlist I think because I'm not sure. Price was $450 a pop. lmk if anyone wants the name of the place.

Just picked this pawn shop cue last night after work.......:grin-square:

A guy that is on my team in pool leagues said he bought a 3S/4S case and inside the case was a Meucci ( I believe from the 80's series) and a Huebler sneaky pete for $40.00

With a pawn shop, its always hit and miss, more miss than hit though. Lots of McDermotts, Meucci, Lucasi, Players and Vipers is what I have been seeing in the 5 local pawn shops I hit every day after work.
