For those of you who like billiard movies, here is a link to the short movie Penance. It was made by some student filmmakers and shot at our room in Canada.

Worth noting is that it was just a student film, and neither of the two main stars had ever really played pool before, so what you see on screen was a result of them getting about a half an hour of instruction from some of the actual players prior to shooting. Just the same I think they did a pretty nice job. I actually served as Exec Producer and several of our local players and regulars had cameos, so please be kind.

Enjoy...

APA-2 cue handling at best:shakehead: :o That just makes the movie unpalatable for me.
"The Hustler" is the only movie worth seeing and that's because the story line is strong. "The Color of Money" story line wasn't too bad, but some of pool sequences were ruined by too much artistic license.
Someday, I hope, a movie will be made that will show pool's level of skill and complexity that won't be boring to watch. IMO :groucho:

I agree, especially your last sentence...BUT I also keep in mind that this is a student film made by student film makers. So, not unpalatable to me. I enjoyed it for what it was.

I thought the same thing. Another thing that was bogus was that Jimmy was playing for the highest stakes of his life and he never took off the heavy leather jacket.

Decent little flick though considering the source.

The opening scene has a killer camera angle and lighting.
A bit cliche then, BUT WELL DONE THANK YOU!

Yeah the lighting throughout is actually top notch. They dimmed almost all the ambient lighting in the room and then shot with just the pool table lights and a couple of side lights for the characters' faces.

Interestingly the actor playing 'Jimmy' didn't smoke in real life, so he's faking it in that opening scene, and then again at the end. Also it was super cold that week and they shot at 3am both days because they needed the pool room to be closed, so they were anxious to get those exterior shots in pretty quickly.

Nice job.

Predictable from the beginning she would win whatever match that came up. Could have done a little more research on the subject to make the characters more believable and genuine to pool. The jacket as mentioned would come off, she shouldn't have sharked him walking up on the table when he was on the last two balls.

I can see a full length movie of it. A little previous to this scene to set it all up and moving forward from the end of this clip with a story with an antagonist to both of them in the end.

The Baron and the Kid

Not bad! Reminds me of The Baron and the Kid, Johnny Cash is a pool player, finds out he has a long lost son. That is a better than most full length pool movie with a couple of solid actors in it, Johnny, and June.

Cool little story. I'd say more about a relationship for a future between father and daughter. Do like the score board vs the beads though in the hall.

I thought it was entertaining. The lighting and photography was excellent. The story was predictable but I still liked it. As far as the shooting scenes, the target audience is the general audience and they won't really know the nuances.

Please tell those kids nice job. Thanks for posting that.

Loved this project but

Who bets their pool hall on a nine ball game race to 15?
Against a stranger? Hmm
