Penn linen?

Hi,

50 yards might not be long enough.

What is the dia?

I bet that Dacron will wear like iron and clean real nice.

Post on how that stuff burnishs.

Well 50 yards is the standard for being a single roll.. So unless you have an extra long wrap area this should work fine..

And in the auction he states that its .025 Diameter..

Is this the "right stuff"?

What do you think about how it was found? Problem being found on reels? Right strand count?

Oh....and heads up if you want it.

Has anybody seen the vintage irish linen?

It was a dull off-white, almost beige with a muted green speck

This stuff is bright white, just like the "new" green speck linen,
and/or the nylon 'immitation' irish linen, and shiney green.

A couple of things to consider. The old nylon wraps that were used on low end Chinese and even some American cues instead of linen was either Dacron or Orlon. Sure doesn't feel like linen. Secondly, the fishing line that was used was 9 strand, not 12 strand.

It appears to me that this person is looking to make a pretty large amount of money, considering the starting bid, for used fishing line especially considering there is no returns if the line is not what is expected.

15 yrs. isn't nearly old enough. It's plastic, not linen. You can buy huge rolls of this stuff at Bass Pro or Cabellas. Dale is correct. The color of the old stuff is creamy, almost pale skin color, with faded green specs. It can still be found in old tackle shops & antique stores if you're lucky, but it'll be a case by case basis whether or not it's worthy of cue wrap.

It should be 9-thread not 12 and here are a couple of examples of what ir will look like one with 40 years of use and one still on the spool.

If you scroll down on the page and look at the pic of the first spool, it looks like its laying in there pretty stiff. I am by no means an expert on linen but I don't think genuine linen would lay in a spool like that.

It used to wear right through my thumb, and my thumb was pretty calloused back then.

It looks like 80lb to me. We used it......awe heck I'm old...in the late 80's when before rock codding was killed by legislation.
