Phenom Players at a young age.

I don't know most of the guys out west, but I have to make a good list for around the east. Any other guys that fall into the top young (12-18) range make this list?

1. HAS to be Mike Coltrain.

2. Tony Watson

3. ? Waitin' on it.



Honorable mention: Jimmy Wales, Hatch (he might have not hit it until 18 or so)

Keith has to be at the top of any list of young Phenoms. He was matching up with the big boys at 14, and winning!

Cole might be second, just a few years behind. At age 18, he would hop a plane to New York alone, and walk into snake pits like 7-11 and gamble with the best players there. From there he was off to Miami and the Congress Bowl, another haven for hustlers. He returned home with his pockets stuffed.
 
Dennis Hatch needs to be in the top 5 for sure. If i'm not mistaken, he was junior 9ball, 8ball, and straight pool champion. I also heard he ran over 300 balls at 19.

How about Chan Witt? Anyone remember that young guy. Wasn't he killed in a car crash? Mike Ranella? Any info on him?
 
Washington state...

We have a young player up here who has shown much promise...Chucky Holyoke...he just place 5th at the Reno Open last December...He is now 16 years old....

We just had the Seattle Open this weekend and he placed 2nd to John Doherty...hill/hill...

Yound Chucky plays very well and getting better still...he has good coaching and backing on the home front from his parents too...

What about the foreign folks? That Wu winning the World's in both 8/9b would trump just about anything, IMO...

Old School besides Keith...Mike Karella, from what I was told was real you and real fearless. Freddie, Jay...any imput?
 
Add in Wu Chia-ching who won the WPA World 9ball and 8ball championships in the same year (2005) at the age of 17.
 
Dunno if this is for current youngsters only, but a while back some kid named Willie did pretty good for himself also. :)

Justin Bergman won and placed well in many National tournaments and doesn't have a problem playing for the cash!
 
Two brothers from North Carolina Adam and Marcus Pendley both junior champs and Adam whipped up on Earl in tournament play while barely 13 years old. Adam has also beat a very strong field in a Viking event at Hickory NC.--Leonard

Austin Murphy

Austin just turned 15 the Saturday of the Junior Nationals in Airizona. He won the 19 and under event, but because he turned 15 during the event the rules kept him from playing in the 14 and under.

Austin has competed with the Pros for the last two years in various venues (BCA ProEvent and the failed IPT).

Austin isn't a Keith McKready or a Cole Dixon, but Austin will be successful at whatever career he wants... Austin is a smart kid. Very Smart.

If Shannon,a road man at that age,says Shane was a better 9-baller at that age,that says a s**tload. Shannon went on to tell me about a road trip back then where the lineup was Shannon,Dennis Hatch,and Archer,with Buddy Hall driving.

Earl...bustin a bunch before he could drink! :)


while working at our room we had the junior nationals every year, and it seemed like there was a never ending stream of jammed pocket 15/16 year olds from the Carolinas! :)
