Anyone know if there is a player's list for the 64 men and 32 women. I believe all the qualifiers are over. Thank you.

This should be a great tournament for both the men and the women. Johnnyt
NEVERMIND, THERE ARE MORE QUALIFIERS COMING UP.

Johnny-

No doubt-it should be good.

I caught a little Sat morning-these folks can play a bit.

A lot of the Asian Women have got even better over the last year. Most of them have been working on kicking/safe and their 10-ball breaks. None of the top women need to work on pocketing balls. I never saw so many straight shooters than are around now. I hope we can get a stream feed from Star sports. Johnnyt

Wow...

I wish there were more U.S. players representing. I know the expense & travel is harsh but was shocked only Monica Webb & SVB on the list for USA :(

Does Shu-Han Chang still play pool? I thought she would be in this or at least try to qualifie. Johnnyt

Any lady from the USA not in the top 5 on the WPBA don't want no part of this group. I wish Monica well...she is going to need it. Johnnyt

I am most surprised by the absence of Karen Corr from the women's list. And I only scanned the list but did not notice Xiaoting Pan either. I will look again, but I wonder why Karen is not going.

And what was this mention of Francisco Bustamante and Efren Reyes having an issue? I find it disappointing they are not playing.

Regardless, the tournament looks jam-packed of uber talent so I think it will be an awesome shindig.

There is controversy going on...

GAB setting up PNOY embarrasment to the world NOW
Posted on April 6, 2011 by rayasports

The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) is setting up President Benigno Aquino III for major embarrassment before the world sports community by issuing a cease and desist order against the Philippine Open Pool Championships on the eve of its scheduled international broadcast.

The Phil Open started last week with its qualifiers and the main tournament is set April 7 at the SM Megamall. Players from over 30 countries as well as officials of the international billiards governing body, the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) have arrived for the event.

The Phil Open, World Ten Ball Championship and other tournaments of the WPA have never been under GAB jurisdiction since Raya Sports started organizing these World Championship events in 2006, and it definitely will not start now.

This is nothing but pure harassment by parties who have long envied the success and honor that these events have brought to the country. Unfortunately, these vested interests are currently in power in the Philippine sports scene. They must be stopped.

I don't understand PI politics so I can't coment on the above artical. But I think it's a shame as good and as big as pool is in the PI that all promoters can't get along for the sake of the fans and the game. Johnnyt

The bottom group of Orcollo, Gomez and Souquet is insane...

Look at player list showing 64 players only!

Then

Look at Pay-outs!

32nd Place pays $800 so you get a virtual free shot at $30,000!!!

But, with the potential of payment problems and all the deaths and injuries!!!!

I understand people not playing in this. Some top European players are missing in action also for this.

Right you are, kabayan!

The Kaiser won a hill-hill TV table match against Carlo Biado,
while Roberto "Superman" Gomez lost to Filipino pool player Alan Cuartero.

One of my uber-favorites, Allison Fisher, lost to a Chinese player
who really played very good. She led in the scoring during the entire
match! I was not able to get the name of the pool player
but she was really intense! And she looked so young! Beautiful, too!
Moreover, the Chinese player showed no emotion nor nothing
during the entire match! Twas all business!

The match of the evening (in my opinion, of course) was
Dennis Orcollo's win against Filipino pool player Desmosthenes Pulpul
(hope I got the spelling of his name right).

Pulpul initially was in control of the match - with as much as an
impressive 6-1 tally against Dennis! And to have a 6-1 score
over Dennis! Wow! Believe you me, this guy could really play!
In fact, he initially gave Dennis almost no chance to be at the table.
At this point in time, you could see Dennis sitting uncomfortably
in his chair - maybe wondering about his next turn at the table.

But Pulpul just kept on running out the rack! And that is the honest truth!
Pulpul seemed unstoppable! You could just see it in his eyes!
And I kid you not!

At 7-3 (Pulpul still leading), Dennis asked for a timeout - a break.
And because the two players have not used their allotted 5 mins
(or was it 10 mins) break, the official agreed.

And boy was it the right time to call such!

Pulpul never had a chance after the break. Dennis was like all focused
and all - running out rack after rack after rack - like a Robocop!
Of course, Pulpul was able to get back to the table a few times
- but not after Dennis snagged safeties and all for him!

Final score 9-7! Yes, twas a 6-rack run by the Money Game King!
And in the last rack, with the last two balls on the table, Dennis realized
that he needed a time extension (and without the referee reminding
him in the first place).

With a smile, Dennis blurted out, "Extension!" The referee was surprised
because the time to make a shot was actually about to run out! HA!

Dennis then looked at our direction (me and Ramil Gallego),
smiled and winked. We actually found it quite funny because before that,
in the past racks, the referee gave Dennis warnings on the shot time.
And this time, Dennis was consciously aware of the time and all,
reminding himself of that last extension. :)

All in all - twas an exciting first day at the Philippine Open!
And truth be told, I am coming back for more! WOOOOOOO!
