Philippine Open

That's gotta be one of the worst missed 9 balls this deep in a matchroom tournament. Straight in at a medium distance. Tight pockets make it missable at that angle, but still...

I feel let down that there is no Filipino in the final 4. The "rooting for the underdog" feeling is now gone.

I think this formula was a good one for fans, both in person and on TV/Stream. IDK if it was intentional or not. The way it went down, it was 80 some Filipinos chasing down 10 top international players. They almost did it, but came up short at the very end. The rooting for the underdog brought the crowds in-person, and the crowds online.

they were all in on this underdog though. very entertaining

I was sick for a couple of days, so no reporting. I watched on TV in my hotel room.

My takeaways from what I saw. Many games (well over half) involve safety play. Advantage to the better kickers and jumpers, and of course the most strategic.

The really straight shooters have a big advantage on these tight pocket tables. Jayson Shaw has to love them. He played great pool all the way until he gifted Arseny with the win.

I watched David Alcaide's first match and remarked to him that he was playing very good. At 46 he is playing his best pool, and is well versed in all aspects of the game. Not a flaw anywhere.

No surprise that as the prize money goes up we are seeing more young athletes chose Pool as their sport. We will continue to see new faces come out of Asia and Europe. Sad to say they aren't developing here in the USA.

I think it's only available on WNTTV-dot-com for a monthly subscription. Sometimes they let the Filipinos film events if it's not available on local TV, but I'm not sure if this is the case today.
I'm here in the Philippines and watched the TV matches on local TV, OneSports. Secondary table was on YouTube, also live. I'm sure the local pool fans are not happy about this. Bad PR for MR in the PI.
