The reason I asked is that the Mezz website says Arseni was born in Russia. I just checked his Facebook page and it says he is from Petrozavodsk in Russia, graduated from high school in Kotka, Finland, and lives in Helsinki. I wonder if his family moved from Russia to Finland when Arseni was quite young. Could be an interesting story as to his background.
Oh they probably came when he was very young ive known him more than 10 years. I think he was 12 when i saw he was monster at Pyramid already.. My bad i thought he born here.

Interesting, that's a home city for Ruslan Chinakhov, the place where he was born and played Russian Pyramid/ pool.

I am finally caught up. Let’s give all the credit to Europe here, winning all three Europe vs Asia quarterfinals.

Props to Capito for reaching the semis at both the Hanoi Open and the Philippines Open. That is a fine achievement.

Capito and Shaw massacred their respective opponents in the quarterfinals, so they seem like the ones to beat on Saturday.

Good luck to the four very worthy semifinalists.

Maybe 10-20 years ago there was a program in Finland that allowed some people in Karelia area (formerly Finland, lost to Russia in WWII) to relocate in Finland by applyinf for a special permission. Petrozavodsk is is Karelia area and could be one the reasons why Arseni’s family moved here. But I didn’t know that Ruslan is also from there. Arseni is definitely a Finn though his name is Russian origin.

I have a freind who was born in Finland…..the family felt they had claim to a large tract of land in the Russian part…they lost it when the area became an SSR….so there is lots of Finn blood in that area.

@mikepage Would be interesting to see the effective Fargo of Arseni Sevastyanov since he has played exceptionally well for his Fargo in the past few big tournaments (winning Shane, Ruiz and now 4 big names in this one tournament in a row), not sure if that data is easy to see or if you are allowed to share it/bother to do so, but his fargo at 761 doesn't seem to reflect his recent performances, there's probably an improvement in his tournament level within the last months and the Fargo is creeping behind.

So if you have data for e.g. what would his Fargo be if we only accounted for the matches he played in 1. this tournament, 2. the last month or two months, or 3. 6 months/1 year, maybe those would shed some light on if his 761 lagging behind or not.

First semi starting NOW!

Robbie Capito gives me sharking vibes. Everytime he goes back to his chair after missing and happens to he in David's peripherals, he keeps wiping his hands with his white towel, and moving his chalk around and just fidgeting instead of staying still. That annoys the shit out of me. If I was his opponent I would have a word with him.

He’s always done this. Don’t think he is doing it on purpose, but other opponents have been bothered by it too.

Alcaide is putting on a clinic. Up 5-1 vs Capito.

Bro heard he was gonna be on MC and just turned it on.

This little tidbit on his wiki page is pretty cool:

"Alcaide was the first Spanish player to represent Europe in the Mosconi Cup, which he did in 2006."

I feel let down that there is no Filipino in the final 4. The "rooting for the underdog" feeling is now gone.

I think this formula was a good one for fans, both in person and on TV/Stream. IDK if it was intentional or not. The way it went down, it was 80 some Filipinos chasing down 10 top international players. They almost did it, but came up short at the very end. The rooting for the underdog brought the crowds in-person, and the crowds online.
