Philippine Open

Congrats to Alcaide. Loved seeing him win this. I believe he's the only one from his generation (born in the 70s) who still remains very competitive.

Interesting that David wouldn't be champion if Sucal didn't choke in that hill-hill rack much earlier in the tournament. But karma seems to have repaid Alcaide after being such a good sport throughout his entire match with Jaybee.

yea, good on him. feels like the buzzy and social aspect of this event was right up his alley. feijen is another 45+ that is still very competitive, but doesn't travel as much.

Presently in Arizona, so the fifteen hour time difference means the last two matches were played while I slept.

Congrats to the likable Alcaide on a great win. While I saw some of Arseni’s play at the US Open, I saw nothing that foreshadowed a silver medal, but it looks like I will have to pay more attention to his game now. We will soon see if he is able to build on this fine effort. Wishing him well.

All in all, for Europe to have had both finalists and three of the four semifinalists in a field that was 85% Asian is very impressive.

Is it just me or were there an insane number of "chokes" in this tournament?

Duong, De Luna, Bustamante (although he ended up getting the rack), Gorst, Shaw (twice) all missed extremely easy, critical shots on the last two balls and that's just the ones I remember. I feel like there have been way more than any other event in recent memory.

Robbie Capito gives me sharking vibes. Everytime he goes back to his chair after missing and happens to he in David's peripherals, he keeps wiping his hands with his white towel, and moving his chalk around and just fidgeting instead of staying still. That annoys the shit out of me. If I was his opponent I would have a word with him.
And you'd prob get a response in the vein of:
Get over it. Shoot. Times a ticking.

Watched the semis and finals on delay. Shaw should have buried Areseni well before the missed nine ball. A handful of mistakes and missed shots in the second part of the match.

Arseni really had no chance against Alcaide. The worst kind of opponent for him to face given David‘s tactical acumen. Once he fell behind 4-2, I knew he was done. Youth, inexperience and nerves did him in.

Capito like Shaw made a lot of errors. Even more errors in fact. The worst game I’ve ever seen Capito play.

Surprisingly excellent event. Matchroom may have stumbled upon something for this particular local in tournament.

I also saw a lot of great play on 4 inch pockets and wet conditions. That wasn’t the issue. Some players handle it well and some didn’t. But most of the misses I saw in the latest stages of the tournament were the result of nerves, not the conditions.

Bigger pockets are just too easy for these pros. They have quickly adapted to 4 inch pockets since matchroom went in that direction.

Pool might be the most difficult sport, but the players cannot handle pressure, that's why they don't like the shootoff in the Predator tournaments, which is 100% mental stamina.

I often hear JJ say that that pool is the most pressure sport and nothing could be furthest from the truth. To win the world title in trapshooting singles discipline (they have handicap and doubles disciplines also) you have to shoot about 700 to 1,000 targets over multiple days under various light and wind conditions without missing a SINGLE target. That is pressure. Someone please tell JJ 😜

I think Alcaide was a popular win with the Pinoys….he had the grace to help AJ. with his extension at a crucial moment in their match.
