Just been trawling through ebay and noticed some Filipino made cues.
They seem to look nice and seem to be a really good price,is this because of the fact that everything is so cheap in the Phillipines?
Has anybody ever bought any cues from the sellers on ebay?,if so what is the hit like and how do they hold up in general?
Might get one as they're pretty cheap and see what they play like....:)

I purchased from JD cues and they are excellent for the price. Finish might not be perfect but they are very good and you get a lot of cue for the money. Only thing is not all the cues from there are excellent. I would recommend JD for sure.

They really run the gamut as far as quality from excellent to really bad. I don't know about this particular cue maker.

You have to be careful buying cues from tropical areas too if the woods have been stored in hot, humid environment. Even the way the wood is dried and stacked has an effect on it warping in the future, so you don't know if their processing souces are high quality.

Most that I know who bought them off e-bay were disappointed in quality and after a few months several of them warped.

I got one on ebay from kaybanan and its says Gordons on the cue for $100
and it looked nice, but hit and played like crap. shaft and tip were inferior. maybe just a bad apple but would not reccomend.

I'm no specialist in Phillipino cues

but if your looking for a pinoy's cue...I'd be the first to recommend Al Bautista. He's a member here, seems to always be available...contributes here almost daily...has a great reputation as a cuemaker...and his prices are very reasonable considering the detail and craftsmanship that goes into each cue...
I'd be really hesitant about buying ANY cue from a "no name" off eBay...but that's just me
Good Luck in your quest!!!

Congrats on winning my Al cue. j/k

I just wanted to add, skip EBAY. Les (the general) is on AZbilliards dealing with Bebot Bautista cues. I recommend him as well, great customer service.

I have a Phillippine made cue. It is well made, but not to the level of perfection of the best US makers. If i remember, correctly, one shaft ring is thicker than the matching by about 1mm and the butt sleeve inlays are slightly rotated to the forearm. Still, these are almost impossible to see.

On the other hand, the hit is very good. Also, it has travelled Pi to usa to Japan without warping. In Japan, i keep it in my apartment, but that is not much more temperature controlled than a car trunk.

It was made by Dindo Perez.

Before buying off EBay, I would contact dgem, the_general, or Al_Bautista. Any of these guys should be able to get you what you want.

I also was intrigued by the price of these ornate cues so I won a cue made by Worx. This is there website http://www.worxcustomcues.com/limited.html I got this cue for under $70 about 3 years ago. there are many imperfections on it and it is also about 60 inch's long. I cannot believe it made it to me in one piece the way they had it packaged. Having noted all of this.....the cue is straight and plays fine. I must say it is beautiful, I do not particularly like gaudy cues but I am glad I drooped the $$$ for this one. Heeding the advice of some of the other posters on who to buy from is a big step in the right direction. Good luck in finding the cue you are after.

after reading all your opinions i think i'm going to order one today.
i'm only getting one just to have as a spare cue,it won't be my main player unless it's better than the others i own.
for the price its worth the risk of getting a poor quality one, even if the shafts are junk its easy enough to get another or replace the ferrule and tip.
i'll let you know how it is when it arrives:)

I own 1 from Viattorre who unfortunately is out of business. It is a great cue and has been my main player even though i have much higher end cues. This particular cue cost new was expensive for there but worth it.
If you buy from Bebotl bautista and his partner the general you can't go wrong. If you buy 1 from looks even the butt part of the cue can warp or the inlays can fall out. Stay with a AZ builder who has a good rep.

i personally bought a JD cue a few months ago just to check it out as the price wasnt astronomical. the price was great for the amount of cue you got. http://yfrog.com/jl78501214j . i guess the easiest way to explain it is this. the cue feels nice, but will never compare to the feel of a state side made cue, imo. the butt and the forearm of the cue , the points dont line up, very hard to tell. albeit the are sharp and straight. had i not been wet behind the ears i would have experimented with the locals here on the forums that people have mentioned several times already. needless to say im working with a member here on starting to make a custom cue.

There are wide quality variations among the Phillippine cuemakers

...the ones i have seen on ebay are richmond cues and some by a seller called kayaban_pc...

As others have mentioned here, the JD cues (Joel Davidas) are an excellent value, look good, and play well. The kayaban_pc cues are of MUCH lower quality. Not familiar with Richmond.

I have a spare 2007 Viattorre on sale in the Wanted/For Sale section. It's one of the last Viattorre's ever made when Jackson finally retired in June 2007. You might want to check it out

Syg

I saw it and was surprised no one snatched it up. They don't know what they are missing. I would compare them to almost any cue made here by hand.
It's to bad i am not looking for another or i would of bought it..

weill i've ordered a kayaban-pc cue just to see what its like.if it's junk i'll just sell it on to one of the guys at the pool room who needs a cheap cue.
think i may try a worx or jd one also.thanks for all the advice and info.its much appreciated:wink:

I've owned three Vhante Cues and one of them warped something awful after a few months. I had it repaired locally and would not buy again.

Too much of a "crap shoot" as to what will happen down-the-road.

Has anyone got experience with Gracie cues? I live in Denmark, we got everything from hot dry sunny days to freezing snowy days in the winter.
