Pia Filler Makes History as First (and only) Female Pro on WNT

By competitive do you mean they could make a living playing with the men?
Along with endorsements and sponsorships it could very well be possible. All I know is that having women playing against men on a pool table is be a big crowd pleaser. Seen it, done it. It works!

How about the top sixteen women in a field of 128. You would see some shockers for sure!
Couldn't that possibly eliminate 16 men players who are better qualified Fargorate-wise??? IDK...I haven't done the research.

Certainly, on any given day there are plenty of women players that can/will beat a man in a pool match. We've seen it before. We will see it again. The bigger question is how will their overall record against men look? When we get one or two women that maintain a .500 winning percentage (or better), then we can add the women into the WNT conversation.

Lets establish something. This is supposed to be 128 of the best players in the world. Pia Filler is not remotely close to the being the best female player much less one of the best 128 players. Achievement in the world used to be based on merit, her “appointment” to this tour clearly isn’t based on merit ...
The list of 128 is not composed from the rankings. The 128 players are invitees by MR, based in large part by the rankings, but not expressly so. What MR guarantees is that these 128 get a slot in any major MR event.

Had MR said the 128 WNT tour members are based solely on rankings, you might have a point. MR has not said that.

In any case, having one woman on the tour is not going to debase it. Nor will having several women on the tour.

I, for one, would love to see Chezka on the tour. But she would have to put in the work on tactics and especially safeties. Her potting ability surpasses plenty of men, but I cringe to think of what might happen to her if she plays a master tactician like Albin Ouschan.

I do wonder if Pia can/will continue to compete in big WPA events. I have to imagine she has been informed the WPA will be OK with that. She is not going to win any prize money on the WNT. The relatively big women's paydays are in non-MR events.

Eventually MR will get involved with women's pool. This is just one of the first tiny steps ...

Let's say Pia took the spot of the #113th ranked male. No one was going to watch him anyway. But many will watch Pia, because she's female, and the battle of the sexes always sells. Those are just the facts of life.

I also see the same sentiment on FB about some males added that don't "belong". Such as Barry Hearn, and a guy from another sport, I think Futbol (forgot his name). That's the same situation. They will be taking spots from male ranked player #127 and #128. So what? None of us would have watched those two 127 and 128 players anyway. Yet many of us die hards might tune in to see if Barry can really make a ball, and some futbol fans might tune in to watch their guy.

Emily is 100% doing the right things. The point of a sport is not to get the best players, and ONLY the best players. The point of a sport, especially a non-established sport such as ours, is to grow its fan base.

We should all be striving to grow the fan base. That's the only thing that will EVER make it better for us die hard players.
If she is not competitive the interest will fade, I would get the best woman player regardless how she looks if she can compete it will more than work

Pia is putting the work. She is improving fast. I believe she will do better than anyone here except. I actually have watched her matches on womens Eurotour and she is close to break through pro level mens play. I am delighted she have opportunity to try from Matchroom. I agree that Siming and few others should be there also. Maybe 4 - 6 women total.

I agree,..Besides, I read Jeanette Lee at her peak made $500,000 one year. Big deal. It's tough to make any money as a pool pro, trust me, I know.
Try a million or more!

In that case, let's find out. I would suggest to you that there are already sixteen women players who can compete on even (or better) terms with the last sixteen men in the WNT ratings list.

You have expressed your feelings quite clearly. I chose not to respond to the first reply for obvious reasons, yet enough. I like the choice.
Well good for you, here’s your Social Justice Warrior merit badge. You can exchange it at any SJW location for a free pronoun and a hair dye job in pink or blue, your choice. Enjoy

How much cash do the top players make from endorsements?

It can't be a lot............

Women have played as far as I know in many events with men.

I think they've avoided a unisex tour because they won't be able to make a living.

she has a decent coach / sparring partner. 😉

her eurotour win was impressive, but on a world scale the asian girls are ahead by quite a bit

These stupid shirts with their name on the back sucks.

The women should be wearing evening attire.

The men in vest and bowtie.

This isn't too over the top for those you that don't want to be distracted by a little skin. Not only will they make a living but a killing with endorsements.

Lee paved the way and nobody is taking the torch and running with it.

At the end of the day, we will just have to see how she does. I was at Derby this year and both Pia and Kristen made the final 20 in the 9 ball event. I had the pleasure of sweating one of Pia's matches with Josh. He was so into her match it was cool. Derby, however, is an interesting case because of the draw. You can draw a lot of middle to high level amateur players and not draw any pro players. I don't know who all she played, but my guess is most of them are not playing on the WNT. However, when a highly skilled player (male or female) is playing a mid-high level amateur, they should win, which is what she did. I have a feeling more eyes will be on the event she plays in, which is a good thing.
