Pictures of hackwork section!

STOP IT.....I'm dying laughing over here....I have tears running down my face I'm laughing so hard.....STOP IT.....I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE....MY SIDES ARE KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see anything funny about this, mister!!! LOL No really. I do like to BS a little on here, but this is dead serious!

Apparently the story is the guy that did the install owed the buyers some money, so he did the work for nothing to take care of his debt. I guess you get what you pay for.

WOW, I've seen some bad jobs in the south, but I have to give it to you on this one......NEVER SEEN ONE THAT BAD.

How in the world could someone play on that table? This guy is going to lose his mind after he see's how the job should

be done. That's crazy to think someone would even put cloth on the cushions like that. I think you got first place locked up for hack

jobs. LMAO

Well, yeah, but slap a facing on it and cover it, and you can barely even tell!

Besides, that little modification there did tighten the pockets up to about 4.5"

This is the "Pro Cut II" pockets. It's an aftermarket thing...you can't get that just anywhere.

Wow hard to believe someone butchered a Diamond that bad. Do you think he cut those cushions with a... A: butter knife, B: chain saw, or C: just ripped them by hand???

My God ... please stop! I need to put new cloth and possibly new rails on my table soon and now you have me super paranoid!

The installer is gonna kill me cause now I'll be watching him... I'll have to print out some of these pictures and say "I'm really sorry, but I hope you understand after seeing these posts".

At least the rubber was cut long.

SOME of it was cut wrong. Other rails were cut a little short. I got pretty lucky that I didn't have two short ends on the same rail, so we were able to pull and reglue the rubber to make it work. It made the customer very happy that he didn't have to buy a brand new set of Artemis AGAIN.

Alright here we go again! This is the table next to the one with the chewed up rubber. You guys will love this.

Are you ready for it?

Check out these pocket screws:

There were no screws underneath, so I guess that was the alternative to replacing the pockets with a new set.

So here's a hint to the do-it-yourselfers and part-timers...if you start a bolt and it doesn't want to turn...don't turn it. LOL If you do, here's what can happen when I try to take it out:

Snappedbolts.jpg

3 f'ing times in one table!!!!

They sheared right off in the insert they were in so tight.

So we took out the inserts and just replaced them with new ones.

Sometimes I'm really glad to have some spare parts with us!

So here's a couple of after pics. These tables needed so much work that I didn't have time to stop and take pics every step of the way. Anyway, they play right and good now, although I did screw the pockets back in that way. It looked slightly better that with empty screw holes on top of all the pockets. LOL

Staples

Sometimes, I wish people did not make power tools. That way they would have to put them staples in by hand. LOL I bet they would not have as many, then.

1/2 staples....hundreds of them

I've never understood why people put that many in a pocket. Do they really think it takes that many to hold it on? This is another example of someone who didn't plan on being the next person to work on the table.

I'm not saying to take shortcuts but I always approach a job with the mentality that I'm going to do a good enough job that I'll be the only guy to ever work on that table again. With that in mind, I'm not going to cause more work for myself later with stupid stuff like this or by cover over staples instead of pulling them, etc. You can always tell when someone is an in-and-outer.

Btw, Olhausen? LOL

Again!

Got another one yesterday. Do you guys run into THIS many hacked tables this frequently or is it just me? LOL This was a Craigslist sold by a 19 year old kid that offered to set up the table himself.

He apparently took the backing all the way off the slate (I think I had mentioned this a couple months back as a hack move). So when he moved the table back in he screwed the backing down onto the frame:

Well, mostly:

Then put the slate back on top of the back and screwed it down with the remaining backing screws. Luckily he had used the slate screw holes in the backing so the actual slate screw holes couldn't be used due to the backing screw head under the hole! Genius.

So it's hard to say when it happened, wether when taking it apart or putting it back together, but the kid also blew out the slate at a pin:

Pretty good sized chunk. Luckily he saved it:

He was also nice enough to buy a new bed cloth included with the sale of the table. Not nice enough to realize the difference between 8' and 8' oversized when he ordered it. ;) I guess it's a good thing, because he was apparently getting ready to cover the table as is. The slate was 1/8" from being flush in places (at the blowout for one), the chip was just set back in place, and the table was obviously NOwhere near level.

The camera batteries were dying, so we'll have to get the after pictures on the return trip with the right sized cloth.

The good thing is, the whole room is Ohio State themed, so we're going to two-tone the table and will get the chance to trim in the pockets two-toned as well. I'll get pictures of that for sure, since that had been mentioned in a previous thread. Return trip is scheduled right before SBE so I'll try to have pics up before we head that way.

Ouch!

LMAO! That's AWESOME! lol I've seen some real winners around the Texas area in the last year or so, but I gotta agree with Mark on this one..... you're definitely winning the race in discovering new hackwork "talent" lol
Those pictures just make me want to go bang my head on the wall for a minute......
Can't wait to see the rest of the follow up pics!

I was asked to look over an old Brunswick table and estimate repairs yesterday, that when I walked into the backyard, all I could do was turn around and laugh.... not for any price. Old particleboard and hobby lobby felt are not my forte'. Especially when there is a motorcycle stripped down and laying all over it in the backyard. You just can't buy this kind of entertainment!

Yeah, I've seriously thought about posting an ad on Craigslist offering to inspect or appraise tables pre-sale for like $30 a table or something. $30 refundable if you use us to install it. I would at least hope it would save us some of this kind of work. ;)

I don't know if this is entirely appropriate for this thread since no work was done, but I'm really starting to think this area is just a hotspot for the hackjob mentality. LOL I showed up the other day to move a 10' snooker table in from storage, set it up and install a set of billiard rails on it. Nice new set of Gold Crown billiard rails ordered new. So we get to the storage to get the rest of the table, and it's an old National T-rail style snooker table. :bash:

This is a direct quote: "Well, you can make it work, right?"

So after discussing what it would take to "make it work", the decision was made to try to find a 10' Brunswick. LOL So does anyone know where I could find a 10' Gold Crown snooker OR billiard table?
