Then you would have changed the Scruggs hit.manwon said:I think it depends on the wood used, however, I would not build any cues that way. I would sleeve the inside of the butt with Phenolic for strength, and have the shaft pilot fit into the phenolic. That way you have the best of both worlds, and you have the strength to insure a strong and tight connection.

I dunno but that joint has stood the test of time. The faces do get dirty and might make the cue wobble if rolled on the table.

This way the shaft pilot fits tighter, and you still have wood to wood at the joint. However, you also have much less chance of the jointed area of the butt cracking or breaking since the phenolic strengthens the entire area and connection. This method will not change the hit at all, and when people think that something can not be improved upon in my opinion they will also stop progessing
