Plastic Template or Wooden Rack

Maybe I'm Old fashioned, I still like a good quality wooden triangle rack for any game? That plastic thing "must" have some sort of "influence" on the break??? Not to mention if it isn't clear and you have to leave it on the table and shoot over it. That's a "bump" on the table...however you want to describe it.

Next thing ya know, everyone will be wearing arm weights and shooting gloves.

I have seen the Templates, don't think they work well in ONE HOLE. As the ball still do not roll true after the BREAK IMHO, as the TEMPLATES is elevated. So the balls do not rool like on a table alone when they leave over the Template at low speed.

I too am a traditionalist. I was skeptical about this item for the same reasons you site, but after a long session of 9-ball I recognized consistency unmatched by any other device. Took me a while to warm up to it, but now I agree with Neil.

CC:

I don't think I have ever seen anyone use a magic rack in 1p. Admittedly, I do not play much 1p but it doesn't seem to make much sense to use one for that game.

As for the general question of traditional rack vs magic rack, specifically speaking to 9 & 10 ball, I love the magic rack.

I'm about as old school as they come and I do also love my old wooden BBC rack but for a perfect rack every time, the magic rack does the job, and quickly, too.

IMO, you can't beat the magic rack and for less than ten bucks, nothing can compare.

But if you're a rack rigger, well, 'Viva Traditionale"...

Best,

I think everybody's right so far. If you're playing a hard-break game, like 8 ball, 9 ball, or 10 ball, the template is great. If you're playing a partial-break game, like straight pool or 1-pocket, you're better off with the traditional rack. My main problem with the traditional racks is when the rack isn't sized to the balls, so you need three hands to actually tighten the rack in there. The flimsy plastic racks are horrendous, but the thicker plastic racks or straight wood racks are still manageable.

Wood racks?

I always liked the wood racks and still do. The problem is that most pool halls are using plastic racks because they dont break or chip and damage the felt..., they also dont rack good, because they flex.....,

The Majic rack solves that and theres no more fighting about a bad rack..,

To each his own. I use the Delta 13 rack and I like the sound plus it does a tremendous job. But use the rack you like - that's why there's so many different versions in different materials.

I really like the Magic rack for 9 and 10 ball, haven't tried 8 ball yet.
For 14.1 the Delta 13 is ok but it does change the game slightly because it is slightly larger than a standard wood rack so the area that a cue can finish in without being in the rack area on the last shot of a rack becomes smaller.
Be curious to see if other straight pool players have an opinion on this.

I have the
Sardo
Plastic
Delta 13 elite
Slug doctor
Magic rack.

I like the slug dr. Pool halls don't like having the spots on the tables, probably due to people not understanding what it is.
I take the magic rack out whenever we play out, league especially.
The delta is probably the best triangle rack ever,

That being said, if the table is worn with a million dots from a zillion bad racks....... No rack but the magic rack will get them tight.

That being said, slug dr or magic rack is the way to go.

Delta 13 is the best triangle rack and Im excited i just ordered a new Magic rack for 9/10 ball which i think is the best rack out there.

The magic rack works fantastically well. No slug breaks, no abnormal 9 ball movement. The rack spreads very well while almost never interrupting the table.

I use the Magic rack and love. I never pull the rack off the table, I just shoot over it and have yet to miss on it. But that's just me!!!!

I prefer Magic Ball Rack (template) to all the other racks out there for 8/9/10-ball.
It does the great job! When I'm playing I actually want to play pool not exercise in making good enough racks. MBR saves my time. Simple as that. ;)

I put the slug doctor on my table and I like it. Dead froze racks.

The drawback though is that now my table has a dead ball on the break. Alot of times I get 2-4 balls on the break. It gives u an irrational perspective of 9ball playing on my table now. Wing ball into the corner and 1 goes one rail into the area of top right hand corner. I put a five on my table the other day. Sounds impressive but its not when I made 12balls in those 5 racks breaking.

The beauty of the Magic rack is....loser should rack. They are not able to do anything with the rack to affect your break. When you win, you should break, when you lose you should rack, and while racking at your own pace, spend your time thinking about what you did wrong, what you need to correct and evaluate the situation in hand. No one LIKES to rack when they lose, but in doing so one learns to Hate to lose for more than just the score....''Assume the Position'', because when your racking you not likin' it, and when your breakin' your lovin' it.

I own a wooden rack, Sardo rack and now the Majic Rack. I also get to use the Delta rack at a friends house.

The Delta rack is the best standard rack on the market. The Majic rack is the best rack period. It's easy to use and produces a perfect rack.

Whole card...What would Johnny Archer have to say about it...??? Maniacal "table maintenance" He's a "purest" di ba????
Earl *****es about everything when it doesn't go his way. Shit Earl is the "Master" of innovation. Gloves, arm weights...etc.

BUT he threw a world class "conniption fit" when Corey Deuel dropped a "soft" 9-ball break on him. "That's not pool" according to Earl. Resigned How about taking your arm weights and gloves off before you complain about someone that figured out something before U did.

If someone masters the break, don't condemn it. Open your eyes and learn.
