There are about 80 (EIGHTY) tournaments in the period 2000-2009 where Ralf finished either 1, 2, 3 or 4th that are NOT listed on the AZBilliards Money Rank. (Did Mika or Efren even finish 1, 2, 3 or 4 in 80 tournaments during the same period?)

No, I am not counting European Championships, because there are no prize money there. But he still got medals there during those years, so you can probably add atleast 10 more top 4 finishes.

What about the events where he finished 5th, 7th, 9th etc?

Oh well, I am done.

It will be a GOOD player that I admire and respect who will win it anyway, and most important: It will not be one of the players that won the Mosconi Cup this year ;)

Roy, did you count the weekly tournaments in local Pubs?

I guess we have to make our list from the start then, I have one friend who has been winning quite consistent those ones. In 9-Ball and 8-ball both. Every other monday is 8-Ball, he's been killing everyone there. In the 9-Ball he has won some, and has lot's of high finishes.

I looked at the events listed on Ralf's website www.souquet.de and checked AZBilliards year by year

cutting to the chase after eleven pages

Sure these other guys and Allison have played pretty good but nobody has equaled Smorg. Heard of losing everything but your name? Smorg took somebody's name!! Clearly the player of the decade.

Remember this??
(*<~ It was on my way home from New Orleans two weeks ago ...... <insert flashback music here> I stopped at my brother's workplace and was talked into spending two days at Spring Break assisting the young girls in their wet T-shirt competitions and bikini contests. Man, I've still got it and so do they.

Anyway, that brother lives ON THE BEACH (about 100' to the surf) of the Gulf of Mexico in a beautiful 3 bedroom home with ALL the amenities (I'd like to swap places with him- including significant other). He lives just east of Panama City in a little beach community called St. Joe Beach. There is a place there (within crawling distance of the house) called "Regan's Pub & Oyster Bar" Est. Nov.14th 2000 157,920 Oyster's Shucked (when the t-shirt was printed).

After a hard day of rubbing up against nubile young things in Panama City we ended up at Regan's depleting their oyster stock and keeping the 'shucker' employed. The bar area had a 4x8 pooltable and the proximity to the beach and the breeze had it in the lower 50?. I had on my Planet 9-Ball jacket with the BIG logo of a planet that looks like a 9-ball (duh).

All the locals wanted to challenge my brother and I to some partners 8-ball and we obliged. We won every game for hours, no matter what rules they made up along the way. We stopped to take a break and eat MORE oysters and one of the players asked me what I 'did' in Tampa. I told him that I was a professional pool player (my brother almost blew an oyster out of his nose).

This fellow named Jim-Bob wanted to play me heads up. I told him that I'd play, but I wouldn't play cheap. He told me that he didn't care WHAT we played for as he racked the balls and I prepared to break. I'd told him that I was called Tampa Tubby and as I smashed the balls I exclaimed that I was playing him for his 'Bob'. At first, he thought that I was kidding, but as it dawned on him that I was serious he became VERY nervous. All activity stopped in the building as EVERYONE came to sweat this game. The most serious game to ever take place in St. Joe Beach,Fl.

I got down to the eightball and Jim-Bob said that I had to 'bank it' AND we were also playing last pocket 8-ball. I'd made my last ball in the side pocket and was in trouble with the way his balls were laying on the table. When I asked if I could play the eight off of one of his balls and he said yes, I kicked the eight from near the end rail and off his ball into 'my' side pocket. GAME OVER. I'd won 'the Bob'. Everyone laughed and cheered while now calling me "Tampa Tubby-Bob".

At the same time, everyone now called Jim-Bob simply JIM. Jim was divestated. It was sinking in that he had lost his 'Bob' and he didn't like it one little bit. People were now calling him 'Bobless' and his boss (who was present) threatened to fire him and make him 'Jobless Bobless'. He's been 'Bobbited'. He wanted a re-match. I said NO. I told him that I would return in exactly one year and play him ONE GAME and give him an opportunity to win his 'Bob' back.

I've spoken to my brother a few times since I've left St. Joe Beach and he assures me NO ONE has called him Jim-Bob since he lost and that the word has spread up & down the beach. They're planning a big 'special day' for next year and my return. I'm thinking about breaking out my sling, walker, eye-patch, etc. to make it REALLY exciting. I know that I dance to beat of a different drum (at least I didn't insist that he throw in a moon pie), but everyone seems to like it (so far). I didn't get a BOP on the nose. Life is good. Does it get any better than this?

Much better.

Player of the decade!

I voted for Ralf because of his overall record during this decade. He has yet to have a bad year. Mika has done so well the last two years that he makes it very close.

Would it be a ridiculous idea to organize yet another poll on this? :-)

I'm pretty sure quite a lot of people have changed their opinion based on the discussion on this thread.

Jay, again your 'facts' are incorrect..

That would be a good idea actually, especially if people would base their votes for straight cold facts, instead of feelings.

I'm sure the results would change dramatically, but of course everyone can base their reasons for what ever they like.

Give it up man. I think the more posts you make are now having an inverse effect on the voting.

Basically it's like eating something you like. The first several have high "utility", but the more you eat the less utility it has. Eventually you reach a point where eating another one will have "negative" utility. You have reached that point sir.

Economics 101.

Heh, you still think I'm interested of the results?

I have hardly laid my eye on them.

Now when I did, I noticed that Archer has 20 votes, SVB 14, and even Deuel and some others have votes.

That only shows that everyone has a right to express their opinions through voting. No matter how ignorant the opinion is.

I have stated facts here, which proves that it's either Mika or Efren, and Ralf comes third. Why are you not answering to those facts, sir?

Sean stated it already; people come here, vote, and then they do or do not read the posts. I'm not here to change peoples votes, just to show who truly deserves it, based on facts, not ignorant feelings.

Roy, if you would add those tournaments NOT listed on AZ, Ralf might catch up with Mika, but would still be only half way with Efren.
And those are anyway small tournaments, not even Euro Tours, and Mika and Efren are Top 2 what it comes to winning big ones. Clearly.

And what do you think, is Efren's all accomplishments listed there on AZ? I guess not. In Germany/Europe thy have lots of small tournaments, in Philippines they have other way to "spend the spare time", between bigger tournaments. I think you should know that. Should we then list all Efrens wins in money matches etc?
Now the ring games are listed in AZ, should we list all Efren's wins, including the exhibition match in Middle East during mid-decade, which paid him 100 000$?

you haven't even acknowledged all of the stats and tourney finishes that Roy put on here that aren't even in the AZ lists. He has provided about 80 tourneys over the decade that Ralf has finished in the top 4 in that is not included in the AZ lists. With those tourneys Ralf would be ahead of Mika in money over the decade and far ahead in average tourney finish.

Not to mention the amount of 1st place finishes he's had. The only argument you make is for Mika having 4 majors and Ralf 1 out of the 2 majors that you state, IN YOUR OPINION, are the biggest.

If you include all of the other major tourneys that are considered big by others' standards with just as good of fields (if not better than) the US Open, then Ralf dominates. I'm talking about tourneys like the DCC 9-ball and the like.

Jay, again your 'facts' are incorrect..

:P

What "facts" are you referring to? I just happen to think, based on what I've witnessed during the last ten years, that Ralf has been the best player overall. He hasn't won the most money. I'm sure Efren has. But Ralf has consistently finished high (top four) in top flight competition. If the complete "facts" were compiled I suspect Ralf would have more top four finishes in major events than anyone else. Sorry if my opinion offended you.

Enough with the "you're too ignorant of the facts" garbage

Marcus:

CAREFUL!! You're now calling people who don't share the same viewpoint as you, as "ignorant" (your exact word) or as "stupid" (implied in the overall context in how you worded the sentence). This is in ITSELF is ignorant, if you think about it.

Marcus, man-oh-man, you seem bent on a mission to mind-meld your choice Mika onto the populace. You are entitled to your opinion, but remember that this is a two-way street -- so are other folks entitled to their opinion. You made your case over and over and over, ad nauseam. Enough already!

Respectfully,
-Sean
