Player With Perfect Fundamentals

Even though there are no specific sets of 'perfect' fundamentals to play great pool, who in your opinion has the most text-book, rock solid, and pressure-proof stroke and stance? I would have to say it's a tie between Thorsten Hohmann, Marlon Manalo, and Dennis Orcullo. Marlon and Dennis are Filipino but they don't have Filipino style strokes. I think that goes to show that the Filipino stroke is defined more by how the job is done, not what the cue action looks like, since they have many different styles now it seems. As honorable mentions, Goh Takami impressed the hell out of me. There is one more Japanese player who's name I don't remember at the moment. As for the Taiwanese players, there too many of them that are just rock solid. Jui Lung Chen (I could be mistaken), the guy who ran the set out on Busta at last years WPC on the live webcast (I think it was a 7-pack?), he is just a monster. His fundamentals look so solid you could tackle him from the side and he wouldn't flinch and still make the ball. I wanna watch these guys again and see if I can incorporate some of their styles into my own game.

Today, I'd probably go with Mika Immonen or Thorsten Hohmann as having the best fundamentals. Still, the best fundamentals I've ever seen were those of the young Steve Mizerak.

As far as best fundamentals, IMHO, it is a tie between Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Souquet.

Maybe not as sound, fundamentally, but someone I love to watch play is Jose Parica.

Manalo, Yang, Hohmann, Souquet, Lely, Feijen, Van den Berg, Foldes, Morris, Archer, Hall, Immonen...just to name a few in no particular order. If one had their fundamentals, would he be a pro level player? Absolutely not IMO. Technique is important, but I'm afraid it's all mental once you cross certain level.

For the U.S.: Tony Robles and Kim Davenport.

For Europe: Thorsten and Ralf.

For Asia: Chao (and his followers)

Overall, I'd say Chao.

Agree with everyone so far but would also add Neils Feijen to the list.
He is definitely rock solid at the table.

No question about Kim Davenport. He has one of the best looking stances and strokes I've ever seen. You wonder how he ever misses! Robles is good too, although I'd say "Ginky" Sansoucci (sp) might edge him out in fundamentals. They're good friends. I wonder if they had the same teacher?

Im afraid Im going to have to go with all the players that used to play snooker! Steve Davis is like an oiled machine, anyone that can draw the cue ball the length of a snooker table with an open bride and a PINT of WATER on their hand is something else.

Not a pool player yet but wait until you see Ronnie O on the IPT - OMG!

I'm surprised nobody has said Corey Deuel yet. He's my favorite pool player as far as stroke fundamentals.

But Ronnie O'Sullivan has every pool player beat by a mile. Snooker fundamentals are built for an amazing degree of accuracy. In videos I've seen of him, he's always perfectly aligned, perfectly balanced, always bridging at a comfortable distance, has the truest pendulum stroke you could imagine, and a rock-solid finish through the ball. I've heard it said that the classic pool stroke is better for spin and power shots than a stroke like Ronnie's, but having seen how he can move the white on slow cloth and huge tables, all the while hitting small object balls into small, unforgiving pockets, I think he's got a superior stroke to anyone else I've seen.

ps. to try to prevent this from turning into a Ronnie vs. Efren or anyone else debate, I'm saying he's got the best stroke, not that he is or will be necessarily the best player.

No 1 Keith McCready

No 2 Allen Hopkins

From the bottom of the list

At the Top

Jimmy Reid
Ralf Souquet

Yeah unfortunately Tiffany can probably get the lime crush or better from nearly all the folks listed in this thread. Just reiterates what Predator said about fundamentals being only part of the equation. What amazes me is when you see a player with really strange looking stance/stroke that just runs oooooooutt. Mike Davis comes to mind.

Mika Immonen, Cory Deuel, Allision Fisher and Ralph Souquet would get my votes. although....... I would put forth that there are some snooker players out there that have perfect fundamentals so I'll add Stephen Hendrys to the list too.
