Players you *like* to play against...

I like to play against these players and will play them all day long...

-Who play BCA rules and know the rules.

-Play a fair game, call fouls on themselves, and do not shark / cheat.

-Who are good sports - humble winners and friendly losers (shake hands win or lose).

-I like very good players who are better players than myself and win most games.

-Not-so-good players if they are working on improving their game, willing to practice, don't mind losing, and learning new things from some source (myself or someone else). (I will go out of my way to help these players.)

-Players who sit in their chair and are quite while I am shooting.
 
There was a club in Denver I went to once, I think it was called the Golden Cabaret, sometimes they would have tourneys where everybody was partnered up with one of the dancers. Very scenic.
 
I like the kind of player who can kick my butt on the table, and shows me what I did wrong, and what I can do to correct it.

That's my kind of playing partner!
 
Since I like playing on 9ft tables.

I like playing against players who are better than me. I tend to learn new stuff all the time. Plus I tend to focus alot more and my game goes up.

Players who you can joke with back n forth, expecially if you shyt in a shot or make the miracle cheese shot. Its fun to play these guys cuz, i tend to loosen up, and play a better game.

I've got a couple of friends who shoot a top notch game, and they dont even want to gamble with me lol, its nice, they just want to shoot for practice. Most of the time i am racking, but every now n then, i'll win a few games.

I like playing against players with your attitude. I think you'd like playing against me, though I do fall in the "not-so-good" rather than "very good" category.

Edit: Too bad the prospect of an Oregon guy and a Massachusetts guy meeting up in the middle of the country is so low.

I think it was the Diamond Cabaret.

I spent a week there one Friday night.

I like playing that kind of player, too. I'm trying to start being that kind of player myself when I play weaker players, but it's sometimes a fine line to walk between helpful and being arrogant when you're telling someone what they did wrong.

I like playing against people who are serious about the game, but comfortable enough to carry on a conversation about something else while playing. My teammate/new teacher and I can have a conversation about work, chicks, and beer... all the while taking shots perfectly. We don't look at each other when we talk and it looks like we are talking to ourselves but we carry on a convo like that. And like pool, we hate to talk about the game at hand, unless I do something that puts him into teacher mode and he has to say something like "keep your dang cue level, Stew".
 
I love playing with players who respect the game and who play well or are working to improve. When playing weaker players, it is hard to resist the impulse to offer advice or post-shot critiques, but I have learned (the hard way) that it is best not to offer unasked for advice.

One tip that I'd like to offer to Inzombiac, though, is to agree with his pool partner to play one half-hour a week in dead silence, with no other words than the necessary "you're on two" or "foul". If the opponent makes a good shot, do the tap instead of verbalizing the compliment. I suspect you may notice a marked increase in the level of play and that you may experience a deeper, albeit quieter, enjoyment of the game.

Well thank you! And correct Massachusetts is a bit far for me.

But if you play a fair game, have a friendly considerate attitude, and can play all night even though you are losing every game, you will find this opens doors for you.

You may be asked to play on a good league team. If there is a better player with a poor attitude and a "not-so-good" player with a good attitude, many teams would choose the "not-so-good" player over the better player. It is a pleasure to play with someone who is pleasant to be around for hours on end, and a pain to be around a poor sport. Also a player with a good attitude will be willing to learn and improve. This is good!

There are plenty of better players around who are like yourself. Around here these people hang out at BCA rules tournaments (best players - most difficult tournaments), not bar rules tournaments.

I think over time you'll find plenty of players in your area who have a good attitude. Find out where the most difficult tournaments are and hang out there.
 
I enjoy playing people that have a tendency to lose when I play them :D

That, and hot chicks.....

Those that are honest, have a respect for the game, have skills, enjoy competition, and are kewl to hang out with....
 
I enjoy playing all pool players who have a good attitude, they can hand me my arse on a platter but if they are fun to be around it doesn't matter. On the other hand if you cop an attitude with me then I will make you target #1 and take you down, eventually.

I agree that an opponent with a similar personality is more fun. A little good-natured bantering just makes the game more interesting. Almost like taking on your own smart ass self!
 
Here is a good tip for you hustlers out there. I really like gambling with a guy who pays me immediately after losing a set and then flips the coin to play the next one.

When you guys flip the coin without paying and then we end up even I have to wonder if you ever had the money and am less eager to play you next time when there is a guy in the room who pays promptly.

I know it's best to see the money first but I don't ask that of my fellow friends that I see all the time in the local pool community and those are typically the only guys I will gamble with.

If you have a huge break I enjoy watching that.
 
I especially like playing One Pocket with the likes of Rafael Martinez and Billy Palmer ... Rafael knows right away that I don't have a chance and he "throws me a crumb" by letting me make a few balls, them gently closes the door on me ... Billy, on the other hand, also knows I don't have a chance and slams the door 1,2, & I'm out ... It's worth the entry fee just to play either of those guys ...

I played in a bar league where one of the bars was a strip club. They had two dancers on the team. What was really amazing was how well those two dancers could reach for a longer shot while balancing on one leg. Something that nobody on my team could even attempt. We always looked forward to playing that team at their bar. But they definitely had a home team advantage.

I like playing against players like myself who are subject to miss any ball an like to gamble. Good sportmanship an a large BR are also a plus.

I like playing in an atmosphere where anyone watching would think we are either mad at each other or playing for big money. No BS, just good shooting and a very high level of concentration.
