Plays of the week!

In my home town George Michael started the Sports Machine with the "Plays of the Week"! ESPN then followed with their own "Plays of the Weeks"!

In 30 years I never saw one Billiard clip or shot for "Plays of the week"

Accu - stats has such great footage of some of the most memorable shots and they are posted on billiard digests home page.

Why can't a major news network post some Billiard shots for plays of the week???

All this despair over the state of PRO pool and the players! too me, getting people aware of the beauty and skill of the sport with REGULAR submissions to the "Plays of the week" folks at major networks would be a BABY step in the RIGHT direction. You got to crawl before you walk and the Investors keep pushing all in and skip crawling and walking and wonder why this puppy can't run???

This TV coverage would have to be good for BIGTRUCK, InsidePool, Accu-stats & TAR and yes Bonus Ball! The players and sponsors would like it!

Any down side to this?

Anyone know how to make this happen?

Why it has not happened to date?

KD

Well without pool being broadcast live on a broadcast or cable network it makes it difficult to get attention. I think the best chance for this is for something unsual or spectacular to happen and for the video to go viral (millions of views very quickly) on youtube. That's typically how other niche sports make these highlight reels.

Im not certain if there's a submission procedure, but more likely the networks have their own people that use their existing network sports coverage to fabricate these highlight reels. Unless the pool event was already covered by the network, I don't see it happening.

(disclaimer: I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, and am just speculating lol)

That being said, here's a recent highlight reel for pool that took me a zillion hours to make:

I have seen High School coverage of basketball & football! I have seen every obscure sport known to man get coverage on "Plays of the week" all except POOL and BILLIARDS! So, i doubt it is a REQUIREMENT that they USE existing network footage only!

I nominate D lewis filing a PayPal dispute with Lee Brett as the

Yeah like I said it's not a requirement, but that's what helps grab people's attention. The other stuff you mentioned most likely got their attention by having something that went viral and grabbed the public's attention that way and then was picked up by Sportscenter or whatever. I could see that happening with pool, but it'd have to be something really unusual since it's such a niche sport.

The network is looking to fill up the time slot with foot age! I have seen home videos of High School games make the networks! I think you can call or email the network and they may have contact information on the credits of the show on how to submit a small sports clip!

A lot of the nicer shots in pool just look normal to the average guy.
Even something like Corey's famous super monkey draw shot won't look as impressive as some
high school kid nailing a full court hail mary in basketball.

For a pool shot to make the reel it must be impossible looking even to jaded guys like us.
Something like shane's jump 2-railer combo in Japan.
I'm kind of annoyed they took it down from youtube, this was the link before:

Anyone save it?

ESPN wants to make you a star

ATTENTION: SPORTS FANS! SPORTSCENTER WANTS YOUR HOME VIDEOS!

Are your driveway hoop highlights worthy of SportsCenter? Have you made incredible diving catches in the park that we just have to see? Did your backyard bravado get caught on tape? If you've dreamed of being in an ESPN highlight, this is your chance. Send us your best, funniest, most ridiculous must-see home videos. Each week ESPN will showcase a home video on SportsCenter in a new segment called "Rich Eisen's Viewfinder" Get your tapes ready. Your SportsCenter moment is coming.

In order to evaluate your home video, we need more information and your written legal permission to make your videotape, and any segments included on it, eligible for possible inclusion in our programs.

Rich Eisen
Rich Eisen wants your video.

Just by sending us your tape, you have given us implied legal permission to broadcast or otherwise use your video, in whole or in part. In addition, however, we need you to sign release forms that will give us written legal permission to do so.

By signing these release forms you are assuring us that you personally shot this videotape and the segments contained within, or that you have legal permission to send us the tape from the person who did shoot it. And by signing these releases you are giving us permission to use it, in whole or in part, without payment, worldwide, in all media (for example, on television, in home videos, etc.), forever.

Below you will find a home video description sheet and two kinds of releases. Using the home video description sheet, please list all clips that were submitted on the tape. Please be sure to tell us who owns the tape and the names of the individuals appearing or heard in each segment.

Once you have identified all clips on the tape you are submitting, then it's time to handle the two releases. The first is a Home Videotape Exclusive Release, which must be signed by all owners of the videotape. The second is a Personal Release, and this must be signed by all persons appearing and/or heard in the videotape (this includes the owner(s) if he or she also appears or is heard in the tape). If the tape submitted contains more than one clip and there are different people in each clip, please print several copies (or make photocopies) of the Personal Release and repeat the steps above for each clip.

In the event that anyone connected with this videotape is under eighteen years of age, i.e. a minor owns, appears, and/or is heard in the videotape, a legal guardian must also sign the enclosed releases on the minor's behalf.

As indicated on the enclosed release, we cannot be responsible for lost or misdirected tapes, and we will not be able to return the tape to you.

All tapes submitted to ESPN must first be screened by our staff for consideration; any decisions to include a tape in a program shall be at ESPN's sole discretion.

Links to Forms: Personal Release Form | Video Release Form

All videos and forms should be sent to:

Rich Eisen's Viewfinder
ESPN
935 Middle St.
Bristol, CT 06010

Thank you for submitting your home video to ESPN.

Must be pretty old because Rich Eisen hasn't worked for ESPN for at least 2 or 3 years. He's the main guy on NFL network now.

I got no skin in the game. But, thought i would look and post what i could find.

Allen Hopkins and Ewa mataya Lawrence have Espn hook ups. I am sure 2 phone calls would be all it takes!

So it was YOU, Nathan, that made that highlight video. Awesome stuff, man! I hope one day you are behind the camera during my match when I win a future major championship! ;)

What about the Billiard Education Found junior footage!!!

Talk about making a kids day making it on ESPN plays of the week!

Just need parental release!

It would be nice in my opinion

Good points!

Yo Kid Dyno - I have been all over the world and this (the USA) is the only place where pool is not given any respect? Its strange. I see pool on TV in other countries with a 10th of the population of the USA.

one big name sponsor and it all changes, until then, not likely.

A "Shot of the week" contest might help drive traffic to the AZB home page, or just be fun.

Something fairly automated where people upload clips of 60 seconds or less and then users vote on their favorite.

The main challenge would be on the IP side: most of the shots of the week would be from streamed matches, so it would fall on relatively few people (Justin, BigTruck, Pat Flemming, Nate M. if BB resumes, Lenny, etc.) to generate most of the content.
