please help identify this wood

Wipe it off with lacquer thinner and let's see what color the rag turns to.
If it bleeds red, RDB.
If it bleeds dark brown. maybe Palisander or the Ferrari.

kelly, yes i got it on ebay, from a dealer in instrument wood, with a great feedback.
kj, i am very allergic to brw, i just did a titlist not knowing what the wood was, that was under the dirt and grime, as soon as i started to sand it i caught the smell, but by then the dust was already on my sweaty arms, both broke out in minutes, like the worst poisin ivy i have ever seen and it will not go away.
i took east indian rosewood, and a piece of this put it under my microscope and the end grain showed this to be brw, then i did the florescent test it also showed this wood to be brazilian.
i am now satisfied it is brazilian rosewood !!!!!!!

The fact is though that I know you paid a huge price for that piece.
What, about $300-400 a bd/ft? I can't compete with the Luthiers. I have to settle for their rejects.

i now scare people if they come in my shop unspected, i bought a bunch of throw-away lab coats, rubber gloves, and a full facemask. hell i even scare the dogs.
i do hase a great tip about the dust, do not take a hot shower if you get the dust on yourself, the hot water opens your pores and makes it worse. before getting into a cold shower take liquid soap and cover the infected areas, the irritant sticks to the soap and the cold water washes it off.
i just wanted to build pool cues, i did not know i would have to learn about medicine, learn how to build a kiln, learn about how to distinguish different species of wood, be a machinest, a designer, and inventor.
and o'yeah figure out a way to pay for all this !!!!!!!!!!

Does not look like brazilian rosewood at all. That looks like dalbergia baroni or Masdagascar rosewood and it smells exactly like brw.
I have quite a bit of the Dalbergia baroni or Palisander and it smells just as the same sweet smell as brw and to me has a better tone than brw.
One way you can tell is the darker line in the wood that separates the light brown with almost black in the wood. Brw figure is way different than that palisander you have.
