PM me for questions,or you can

Y'all should take him up on this offer

Look guys, if you are withing a 2 hour drive of central KY, the only question you should really be asking John is when is he available for lessons.

I may be in central KY, but I met John right here on AZB, which was fortunate for me. You can read about my initial visit with him here. Your game will thank you and he makes the experience fun. And it sure helps to be enjoying your experience, believe me.

And since John is too humble to bring up his accomplishments, I will be glad to do it for him. Multiple time DCC bank pool champion and DCC master of the table winner to boot (he ain't no one trick bank pool pony fellas!).

Take advantage ladies and gents. Not too many players of his caliber try to make themselves accessible to those who wish to learn.

Cheers and happy shooting,

JL

What's the best banking table?

Might as well start a new section.
Ask The Banker.

I already checked my driving distance to him....8 hours. I saw his rate for a 4 hour lesson on his website and it's super reasonable, surprisingly so actually. If it was a shorter drive such that I could make a day trip out of it I'd probably start saving up for one.

I would concur 100%!!! Not only what you said but I would add John is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and a complete hoot to spend the day with. His stroke is as good as anybody playing the game.

Diamond...anymore questions? John B.

Since I've been playing on almost nothing but Diamonds for 2 1/2 months, I can't get enough - so, so consistent.

I've found that there are certain banks I'll hit different ways. Some at table speed with a little top, others at high speed with draw. If nothing is needed out of the CB, do you have certain ways you prefer to hit different banks, knowing that those little tweaks will adjust/hold the angle for you?

For example.. you never see anybody baby a sharp straight-back(I could be wrong). Well, maybe a 1P player. One thing I've found is that on a wider full-table bank, just a little top at medium speed keeps the angle in-out almost perfect.

Why did you say Diamond? Most feel that they bank short, so is it that you feel they are more consistent in their banking?

Good question..the way you worded that. Short compared to what?? Are you going to compare it your table or who's?? I can walk in anywhere that has Diamonds and it won't take me long to figure it out. I cannot say that about any other tables that I have played on.Every GC in the country plays different than the one right beside of it. What other kind of tables are they? John B.

The Diamonds at Breakers bank different than at Michael's which bank different than the new ones at Lacy's. So I don't understand how you can say that about GC's and not Diamonds.

I do think Diamonds are a better table overall.

There are different kind of diamond tables, i believe what he is referring to is the blue label (newest diamonds) all bank the same. Last time i was in Michaels they had the old diamond tables so of course they will bank different to the newer ones.

its pretty sick how short you can pinch some banks on diamonds, i occasionally try some i think are impossible just to see....and sometimes they go lol.

Iirc, all they have to do is have them updated from the old red label setup when the tables are redone.

On a Valley, you could measure the cross-back 2-rail side bank by knowing you just couldn't quite cheat the 1-rail and it would go pretty easy. I'm still practicing that shot on the Diamond. Although, hitting 2 or 3 rails to the side of the side pockets to pull it back seems to go more easily.

ya those 2 railers into side where it reverse back off second rail are entertaining on diamonds, sometimes i get to much and reverse past the pocket....quite entertaining.

Yes, but having the rails "recalibrated," which can be done by Glen Hancock, Mark Gregory, and a few others, is not inexpensive (but well worthwhile if the tables are used for high-level competition).

An alternative is to replace the rails with new ones from Diamond, and that alternative is probably even more expensive.
