I wanted to do that with three other questions but couldn't figure out how to put in two different poll questions. I'll probably do another one after this expires.
I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not. I find it difficult to believe that you've been here for a year and haven't seen a smoking thread.
Go to the search advanced function, search "smoking" in thread titles only, and you will get 53 different thread results.
Yeah, it gets discussed, every few weeks. And it breaks down into a pi$$ing contest, every time. Rather predictable.

I do not smoke however I do use snuff. I play 2 nights a week in league. Some nights I smell so bad from the smoke that when I get home my wife makes me undress in the garage. My eyes burn and I feel congested for a day. So my question to all the indignant smokers who say their rights are being infringed upon, what about MY rights? Based on the arguement put forth would it be acceptable if I spit on the floor? What if I accidently hit a smoker's shoe? How would a smoker feel if I were to spit into their half full beer? Yes I do have a nasty habit but unlike cig smoke, my habit doesnt infringe upon anyone else. Why cant smokers show me the same courtesy? What makes them so SPECIAL?

Very well said. How about instead of banning smoking, simply enforce minimum air standards. It's really not that difficult to have air filtration systems that could handle the smoke.
I don't smoke. But if I did, I would go outside just for common courtesy...
I smoke cigars fairly regularly... and yes, for me, tobacco is not addictive.
I can not smoke a cigar for several days and I have no cravings.

Good on you but are you denying that tobacco is addictive to most who use it? After all, there are some admitting right in this thread that it's addictive to them.
All of which is irrelevant to whether it's acceptable to use tobacco in a public setting that forces others to either share it or leave the building.
Tobacco not being addictive is a joke. I am addicted to it and have been
for almost 30 years. The new generation was introduced to smoking in
a completely different manner.And that is great.They were also raised up with different ideas and morals that are not always great. At the pool room I play at,they have a great ventilation system and I haven't heard anyone complaining about smelling smoke.It is easy to pass judgment when you dont know sh1t about addiction

If the law allows smoking in a pool hall, people will smoke. If the law doesn't allow smoking, people won't smoke in the pool hall. Nothing you say or do here will change any of that. AZB does not have that kind of power.
If the laws allow smoking, quit whining about it. If you don't like it, go somewhere else where they don't allow smoking. Don't go in a smoking room and complain about the smoke. Don't move into the country and complain about the smell of manure. Don't go to a biker bar and complain about what everyone is wearing. It only makes you look like an idiot.
i dont smoke, never have. I remember in the 80's in some rooms with poor ventalation the smoke would be so thick you couldnt hardly see the back of the room from the front door, How I could physically adapt to that looking back is amazing, I suppose I just got used to it.
I dont miss smoke in pool rooms at all, I was always hoped they would do something about it back then. I never thought it would happen-but it did.
While I enjoy the smoke free rooms, What I dont like is the Law behind it. If peope want to smoke let them, I believe it should be the room owners decision-not forced on people who set up shop and bust their ass to build a business. In a different thread yesterday I commented on why I dont like America much anymore I cited the reasons (OSHA, FDA, FTC, too many Lawyers, Tort issues, to many laws, etc) this is what I was refering to. Its destroyed business at lots of rooms, in Vegas they repealed some smoking bans 2 weeks ago, Good for them.
Just like seat belt and helmet laws, we live in a over regulated society in America. IMO.
If I did smoke, i'd still go outside as I feel that is the right thing to do. But I dont want to be forced by our Govt to go outside. I would be considerate to other people. Perhaps thats because I had good parents(who both smoked)-I believe if parents raised their kids right and the kids were better educated we wouldnt need so many laws to protect us from ourselves in society as a whole. But that would take many years for that to happen.
Edit: I think weed should be legal as well, I still will never smoke it. But it should be legal, I saw a poll 3-4 days ago in 1981 21% of the people wanted it legalized, now in 2011 it was 47%(to the best of my recollection) They had the other years in the poll 91 & 2001; it showed 4 surveys and in every decade more and more Americans are jumping on board to legalize weed. Or perhaps the old people who dont understand it and are against it are dieing off. In Zimbabwe in some tribes)in very remote areas) its legal for the female's only-but that a small % of the population-in the rest of Zim its not legal. Funny how people view and make up rules differently in different areas.

I like the idea of non smoking places. If I have to go outside to smoke I will smoke a lot less.
In my state, they passed a law a few years ago that any business establishment had to provide seperate sections for smokers and non-smokers.
So all these businesses spent $$$$$ building glass partitions, installing ventilation systems, and the like. There was one bar/restaurant in the area with a horseshoe shaped bar that spent a substantial amount of money to basically "split" the horseshoe with glass walls and an ultra-quiet ventilation system between the two areas (think of the type of exhaust fan when walking into a supermarket, but a lot quieter).
The following year, another law was passed that there would be NO smoking ANYWHERE in the establishment.
Quite a few businesses in the area spent a lot of money to accomodate the first law, only to not have it pay off for them.

Just wondering: what about the arguement that failure to use reasonable safety precautions- helmet/ seat belt- increases the injury risk?
Should I have any liability relief if I tap (I know somebody wants a definition! <5mph) a guy on a bike without a helmet and he falls and has a serious head injury?

where in that post did you refer to a poll? You asked for a thread to be pointed out on the subject of smoking. That is what I did.
Where did I make a statement? Unless you consider a link and an image to be a statement.
Depends on the circumstances of the accident. Who is at fault? Oh, and BTW, wearing a helmet does not necessarily equate to NOT having a head injury... regardless of the speed at which the accident occurs.
I'm with Fatboy on this one. I ride a motorcycle here in WA state, which has a helmet law for motorcycles... but not for bicycles... and I detest the law... yet, even in its absence, I would still wear a helmet.
The same goes for seat belts. As an adult, I should have the choice to wear one or not. The law should require an adult to ensure that a minor is wearing one... and that's it, imo.
