Poll: smoking and pool

Smokers: would you play pool in a pool hall that probited smoking?

  • Total voters
    127
  • Poll closed .
I have no problem with a room owner deciding whether or not to allow smoking in his establishment. And I respect either decision.

But its none of the government's business.

This is a matter of property rights.
Does government have the power to dictate what you do with your property?

I have never smoked
I have no desire to smoke
I do not enjoy breathing smoke

If cigarettes are legal it should be legal to smoke them on privately owned property.

I can go along with no smoking in a government building - courthouse, DMV etc.
Or hospitals...

In a privately owned business the ONLY person making the decision should be the taxpaying property owner.

I could go along with an air purity law. Proper ventilation sounds good to me. That at least makes some sense.

Personally I would rather see a ban on fast food.

I find these 2 statements to be contradictory...! The business can choose to have smoking, but a person cant choose what to eat??!!

Cheffjeff will contact you shortly.

People who smoke are idiots, they spend money to buy poison that kills their vital organs, and they blow that poison towards my clean air. Plus they stink like goats.

A comment was made earlier that said?

I can understand a $25 cigar.....but a piece of chalk

Answer, both are equally as dumb. I cant understand, either one.

One kills you, the other robs you.

Larry, you're entitled to your opinion... as we all are... but to call people "idiots"... and "dumb" as if they are facts is not necessary... and frankly, I find it offensive.

trying to avoid the inevitable debate here....In Oregon, this is a mute point. Smoking indoors is banned pretty much everywhere. Exceptions are Indian casinos (They are a seperate soverign nation) and private homes.

Same here in WA.

I'm now glad that it went that way... it definitely played a role in my decision to buy my first home table... and insulate/sheetrock/paint/decorate the interior of my garage (now my home room) so I can play pool and smoke cigars in peace... happy boy. :-)

Its obvious you smoke.
And I find it offensive you stink up the joint and blow poision in my face, and later on my tax dollars will be spend to buy you a wheel chair and oxygen bottle when you cook your lungs where they no longer work, and neither then can you. Now tell me this, any one that does this, is not an idiot, what, they are a smart person?
Only when you wake up to this fact, you are an idiot and dumb, can you then quit and save your self. now, you probably think your cool.

Larry - I'm 62 years old and have been smoking cigars for 15 years.

None of your barbs are going to penetrate my thick skin.

Nice try, though.

Cheers brother.

I was using bad sarcasm here. Bad joke on my end. The thread is about smoking establishments. But here's .2 on smoking. If you currently smoke do not bother going to a Dr. Do not worry about health insurance. If you get lung cancer sue yourself for thinking smoking was ok. Once a person is diagnosed with LC they are goners. It's easier to stop smoking than die from that shit. It's not ok to smoke. Don't think it is....don't think you will not get affected by it. Ask the Marlboro Man....remember him. He made a nice living from promoting cigarettes. His payoff...early retirement. The saying goes....quit smoking...do it for those that love you. My last on this. No apologies for the rant/hijack.

I won't even go into a place where people are allowed to cough or sneeze. Certainly nobody is allowed to touch my body. Everyone should also have to pass biological screening to gain access to the place.

Even if the place meets those conditions, I wear a bubble suit.

And of course I absolutely believe my all-knowing government knows what is best for me, especially when it comes to managing my business.

Hyperbole much? Personally, smoke irritates my eyes and leaves my clothes smelling rank, let alone the health risks. Business owners should make their own decisions, but asking your customers to not smoke inside is not a horrible inconvenience. Those who don't smoke are more inconvenienced than the smokers.

Perhaps you guys should start a thread in the NPR Forum. It could be entitled... "Everybody should stop smoking and here's the reasons why". :groucho:

Smokin a R & J Churchill right now.

Love it!
Beautiful, brother. Nice!

My friendly USPS driver delivered a couple of boxes of Partagas Shorts a couple of days ago.

I may take one for a test run and smoke it while hitting some balls on my Diamond.

Smoking cigars and playing pool go together divinely. :thumbup2:

i dont smoke, never have. I remember in the 80's in some rooms with poor ventalation the smoke would be so thick you couldnt hardly see the back of the room from the front door, How I could physically adapt to that looking back is amazing, I suppose I just got used to it.

I dont miss smoke in pool rooms at all, I was always hoped they would do something about it back then. I never thought it would happen-but it did.

While I enjoy the smoke free rooms, What I dont like is the Law behind it. If peope want to smoke let them, I believe it should be the room owners decision-not forced on people who set up shop and bust their ass to build a business. In a different thread yesterday I commented on why I dont like America much anymore I cited the reasons (OSHA, FDA, FTC, too many Lawyers, Tort issues, to many laws, etc) this is what I was refering to. Its destroyed business at lots of rooms, in Vegas they repealed some smoking bans 2 weeks ago, Good for them.

Just like seat belt and helmet laws, we live in a over regulated society in America. IMO.

If I did smoke, i'd still go outside as I feel that is the right thing to do. But I dont want to be forced by our Govt to go outside. I would be considerate to other people. Perhaps thats because I had good parents(who both smoked)-I believe if parents raised their kids right and the kids were better educated we wouldnt need so many laws to protect us from ourselves in society as a whole. But that would take many years for that to happen.

Edit: I think weed should be legal as well, I still will never smoke it. But it should be legal, I saw a poll 3-4 days ago in 1981 21% of the people wanted it legalized, now in 2011 it was 47%(to the best of my recollection) They had the other years in the poll 91 & 2001; it showed 4 surveys and in every decade more and more Americans are jumping on board to legalize weed. Or perhaps the old people who dont understand it and are against it are dieing off. In Zimbabwe in some tribes)in very remote areas) its legal for the female's only-but that a small % of the population-in the rest of Zim its not legal. Funny how people view and make up rules differently in different areas.

If it wasn't for the teens of the 1960's (I use to go into Harlem and buy it by the stick in the mid 1950's) weed would still be a no no for 99% of the people now. Too bad not many listened when we said the gov is run by crooks. Most just jumped on board with the crooks until the bubble burst. (and yes I fought for this country, so don't go there) Johnnyt

You should have a 4th choice.
4) I'm smart enough not to smoke tobacco. If I go outside it will be to fire up a joint.

I had a couple today myself.
Partagas Black Maximo and a Diesel Unholy Cocktail.

Larry...I strongly suspect you've been banned before but I'm just making sure you have enough rope to hang yourself with.

I am watching you.

my answer to this question

I used to be a smoker of over 2 packs a day. 11years ago i quit cold turkey due to some possible health reasons. People have to understand that under the current laws and systems we have in place, smokers will always be contaminators of the area in which they smoke. Although the Gov't is protecting the rights of non smokers they will never treat smokers with the same respect. Non smokers have rights according to the laws and smokers have none. Personally i think it should be brought up for a vote by the voters in each individual state. But we all know that is not going to happen. Soon NY will pass a law not allowing smoking outside any business or within 50 foot of said business. Like i said, we are not all equal as that piece of paper says........jmho.................mike
