So i've been rolling over on this one for a while and now and would like to hear your thoughts.

I you were to come across a pool genie and she (you know you want it to be a chick) was to grant you one wish towards your game, what would you wish for.

You would be an expert of the following

1) Shot Making
2) Cue Ball Control
3) Patter Reading
4) Focus/Concentration
5) Endurance
6) Fundaments
7) Cuemanship
8) Systems "diamond and any other banking and kicking system)

Take you pick or add your own, what do you crave most

oookay. I would love to hear why you guys picked what you picked. FastEddie I would like to hear about your choice.

I voted for systems... because there are kicking systems, aiming systems, banking systems, betting systems, etc

I'd honestly be kind of pissed if I found a genie and he/she was pool-specific. I suppose, if unrestrained by the given choices, I'd simply wish to be better at snooker than Ronnie O'Sullivan. They get paid, and whatnot.

Pretty cheap genie...giving only one wish. Isn't three wishes the genie industry standard? Kind of like getting a dime from the Tooth Fairy when my friends got quarters. Dad said we must have a cheap fairy.

Anyway, I'd take shot-making, cueball control and kicking systems.

I voted for endurance. I do everything else pretty good. But at 66 I don't last very long and run out of steam after about 4 or 5 hours of playing.

Nothing

It is just my opinion but all the other things listed do not mean much without focus and concentration.I love to watch players like Ralf Soquet he is so focused not even the antics of Earl Strictland can throw his game off.

I voted "cue ball control" because if you got that down, some of the other choices will follow. Like shotmaking. I can make an awful lot more shots (i.e. miss less) if I get the cueball where I NEED it to be for that particular shot.

Things like focus, endurance, etc., those things are well within your reach without the need for a "genie".

YMMV

Cuemanship. Because the times I actually remember to focus on a smooth precise cueing and not focus all my energy on aiming, I end up making more balls and hit my positions better.

Some of these are tricky.
If you pick fundamentals, won't that pretty much guarantee you the shotmaking too?

And if you have the best possible focus and concentration,
will you also have the best endurance because you can stay focused even after a long time?

No idea what you mean by cuemanship.

I guess if I could just pick one I'd do shotmaking. I've focused on controlling the cue ball for years,
and I think most of my runs end because I'm missing moderate to difficult shots.
If the genie could add a flat 15% chance to pocket every shot I attempt I'd be pretty thrilled.

I went for cue ball control I think that is one if the hardest things to learn and actually apply especially in nine and ten ball. you can win the game really quick with great cue ball control

Cue Ball CONTROL!

I'm with Maniac.

If I can get the cue ball to the correct position, I feel I can continue the run. Where I fail is when I get on the wrong side of the object ball, or hide behind a ball. Or if I play a safety, and let the cue ball leak out so my opponent has a easy return safety, or a makeable shot.

A decent drink and a barmaid that will come by regular. The rest of that I will get on my own. Pool is a journey, not a destination.

Why are you having to shoot moderate to difficult shots??? Maybe it's because you don't have the necessary cue ball control???

You control the cue ball.....you shoot easier shots.....you keep the run going.

That's just the way I see it.

Well that's a fair point. Let's just say that the cue ball doesn't surprise me anymore.
But there are times where the layout sort of dictates that your best option
is to just settle for a medium difficulty shot, and trying to aggressively get perfect
shape may lead to you getting hooked.

So there are points in the run where I 'settle' for a shot that I personally can miss,
even though the average pro will make it 100/100.
I'd like to make it 100/100 too.

Just a quick example, say you're trying to get to A but go a foot further to B.
I feel like I should be able to cut the 3ball in from "B" every time, but I simply can't.

@ Creedo: that my friend seem to fall under shot making. See I think being able to "SEE THE SHOT" is one of the most key aspect of playing pool and getting position, or even missing shots. the shot you mentioned is no duck but there are some who an just "see" it and others who can't.

I personally like shotmaking as it seems to be the most illusive dream. Many things can be worked on, and pose different challenges for different people but not being able to see the shot tends to make other things fail, for example twisting the wrist in order to help throw in the ball, something we are all guilty of.

If I were to meet a genie I would ask her to put and end to world hunger, and provide me with some low-cost car insurance. It's freaking ridiculous what those companies a charging these days. :)

P.S. I checked endurance on the poll question. My prostate flairs up, from time to time, and having to take a leak every two or thee shots really slows down a game of One Pocket.

Really? I pay $70 a month for full coverage. Thats pretty cheap I think.
And don't get me started on bath room trips
