Postcards are quite the collectibles, and anything pertaining to billiards is quite rare, indeed.

Here's a great postcard, undated, of The Billiard Room in the Osborne House at the Isle of Wright. It is of a pillared apartment commanding a view of the sea.

What is amazing to me is that statue on the right. Check it out. It's a statue holding a pool cue. LOL!

This is a terrific thread! I'm loving the pics that started the thread. I also like some of the ones you guys are posting. For instance, the one that is outdoors, on a room over the water... There is nothing to catch stray balls. Can you imagine how many cue balls they must have on the bottom of that spot of water?

I haven't made it through all the pages, yet. I think I'm on 11 or 12. Does anyone have a swimming pool that's shaped like and designed like a pool table? I bet someone does.....?????

And for those who like a contemporary flare, check out this all-glass pool table. You can actually see the balls as they're rolling down inside the table. I kind of like this one. I wonder if it cleans well with Windex!

And then there's the ice pool table. I guess you'd have to live in a cold climate to enjoy this table for a long time!

I wonder if there are multiple pool tables in a swimming pool... a sort of outdoor wet "pool hall"??? Anyone got a clue?

I was looking for a pic of our local pool hall that we enjoy, earlier. Didn't find any. I know I have some, so I'll keep looking, but i have to go get some sleep, first. :wink:

Founded in 1884 Booches in Columbia Missouri. Nice older tables and a few snooker tables as well. People come for the burgers. Ranked by USA Today as one of the best burger joints in America. And served on a square of wax paper.


I wonder if this is the oldest pool room in the US?

Founded in 1884, Booches is a restaurant and pool hall at 110 S. 9th Street in downtown Columbia, Missouri. Their cheeseburgers, which are served on wax paper, were named one of the top ten burgers in America by USA Today in 2000. In 2005, Jerry Shriver of USA Today included Booche's hamburger on the list of top 25 dishes from his "Down-home Dining" project.[1]

Booches has three full-sized pool tables, two snooker tables, and one billiard table (no pockets) for three cushion billiards play. Booches hosts yearly invitation-only Snooker and 3-cushion tournaments.

Booches is known for the saying "Closed on Sunday, see you in church," among other witticisms posted on their walls, including "Unattended children will be sold as slaves" and "No sniveling." Also adorning the walls are faux-original comic strips incorporating Booche's regulars, team photos of the Mizzou football teams in the early 1900s, and other old-time sports memorabilia.

During the mid to late 1970's, the then-owners of Booche's edited and published four issues of the "Review la Booche", a literary journal featuring poetry, prose, sketches and photographs by contributors of such prominence as John Ciardi, William Stafford, Elton Glaser, Frank Stack and Richard Eberhart, along with local and regional contributors. The review was revived in 1990 for a fifth and final issue.

Booches received its name when its original owner, Paul Blucher Venable, was nicknamed "Booch" as a child by writer Eugene Field. The restaurant has gone through many owners in its time and was male-only until the 1970s. Today, it is a haven for University of Missouri and St. Louis Cardinals sports fans, and has a considerably more family-friendly atmosphere.
