Pool halls in Bangkok

Hi, AZ Community

I will be on business trip in Bangkok next week.

I will be staying near the Chitlom train station due to my office location.

May I know if there is any pool halls in Bangkok that anyone here can recommend?

You can probably jump on BTS easily enough (?) and go east toward "bearing," exit bts at asok and there is a room called "the players." There are at least 2 or 3 more pool halls in that immediate vicinity (anybody in players would let you know where), but players was my favorite.

thank you for the directions. :)
I think the Asoke station is just 3 stations away from Chit Lom station.

Hi,
There are a lot of pool halls on Sukhumvit road. If you exit Asok, take the exit towards the Time Square building and in the basement of the Times Square building you will find Hustlers pool hall, which is one of the nicer ones in town. If you exit the opposite direction, but same side of the street, and walk down a few blocks you will see an alley on your right and Players Pool hall is down that alley. Its a little harder to find, but they have signs posted on the alley wall where it meets the sidewalk. There is also the Ball in Hand on Soi 4. If you go down past all the girlie bars you will see a 7 Eleven on the right. Turn right at the 7 Eleven and you will see signs for the Ball in Hand on your right. Its on the second floor, but they usually have a kiosk out front of the stairway.
There are a few other rooms too, but its hard to explain how to get there. I'd have to show you, but I don't live in Bangkok anymore :(
Try to PM ThaiTom or Cuaba. If they have time to meet you up Im sure they would show you a few places!
Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you so much for the information.

I guess I should be shooting pool at either 1 of these 3 suggested places.

Are the house cues there decent?
Do I need to bring my own play cue there?

I have just visited Bangkok and stayed near Sukumvit and Soi 19. Across the street from the Westin on that corner is a shopping center/office building called Times Square and in the basement level that you enter from the outside is Hustlers with 8 nine foot tables. http://www.hustlersbangkok.com/

Come out of Hustlers, turn right on Sukhumvit and walk to Soi 22 and you find Sportsbar which is actually bigger and nicer on the inside than Hustlers. It sits a little off Suk behind the Dubliner Pub. Sportsman has 6 seven foot Brunswicks and 2 nine footers. From 12 to 4 pm pool is free. http://www.sportsbarbangkok.com/

It depends on what you're planning. If you're happy just having a knockabout with the tourists and girls, just use house cues (they are pretty poor, however). If you're looking for action with Thais, bring your own. I gave Thais a wide berth, and just stuck to smashing tourists with club cues. It's amazing how much entertainment you can get for 20b in Thailand.

As to places to play, they're everywhere. It's a while since I've been and things change quickly in Bangkok, but Sports Academy on Suk was a good hall, as was the multi-floored Hillary's on Suk 11. These are pay by the hour places, with decent equipment, and are where you'll find better players.

As for tourist bars, these are good fun - Gullivers on Soi 5, New Wave on Soi 7, Morning Night & the Hillary's on Soi 4, and Country Road on Cowboy, which is the only place that plays proper rules AFAIK. All have 'winner stays on' tables.

Taxis are cheap and plentiful - just make sure the driver sticks the meter on and you're good to go. You can get around very easily, so there's no need to limit yourself to one area. You can do pretty much all the bars and halls mentioned so far in one night if you want to.

its up to you. most of the house cues are cuetec style with fiberglass coated shafts so they don't warp in the humid heat.

if you're gonna be there for a while and have enough time to play pool, then bring your cue, otherwise if you're just gonna hit some here and there just use a house cue.

Sports Academy is a nice room as well.

Hey, guys

I was able to drop by Hustlers Bangkok last night as I guess it was easier to find since there were directions from the Asoke BTS station to get to Times Square.
The place is pretty nice with Brunswick tables fitted with Simonis cloth and Aramith TV balls.
There were some stickers on a table which said that the table was used in the final for the Bangkok stop of the San Miguel Asia 9 ball tour.

House cues were fibreglass coated maple cues.
I brought my Willard tip shaper to shape the tip as I sort of expected house cues not to have nicely shaped tips.

I guess the place might be a bit too expensive for the locals since the place was filled with foreigners rather than locals.

I had some fun shooting, had 2 beers, spent around 600 baht at the place.

I wanted to find Players since I thought that it was in the same area but I sort of lost my bearings a bit. Perhaps I will try to find it tomorrow night.

Thanks for the advice so far, I really appreciate it. :)

Will try to give more updates if I manage to find another pool hall here.

Remember as you are traveling east from chit lom that players is on the south side of sukhumvit. when you're new in bkk, try to remember which direction you were going on the bts train. so that will narrow it down :)

also remember that players is under (or at least very near) the actual asoke bts station (ie where people get on and off), and there is a neon sign for it. you have to go back about 30 meters into a little alley, it is NOT right on the suk. hope that narrows it down enough (bkk isn't easy for directions i know).

there should be some thai players in there. good luck :)

BKK is not easy to ask directions indeed, because of the language barrier.

Now that I have a better sense of the places around the Asoke station, I think I will try to go to Players tomorrow night.

Will try to give some updates(hopefully). :)

Just jump in a taxi. Cheap as chips - just make sure the driver puts the meter on.

To get to Players, as you leave Hustlers, turn right at the top of the steps and walk down Suk toward Asoke station. After 50 - 60 meters, look up and you will see Players sign over your head. Turn right at the sign and it's set back 20 - 30 meters from Suk

sorry for this late update as I just came back to Singapore last night.

I managed to find Players as well as Pool Academy 2 nights ago.

Players can be found easily via Exit 2 of the Asoke BTS station actually.
I saw it when walking down the stairs to the footpath from Exit 2.
The place looked very nice for some pool action but too bad it was packed full when I reached there.
There were some Brunswick Gold Crowns fitted with Simonis cloth and Aramith TV balls.
There were also some seats for people who just want to drink and not to take part in the pool action.
I left after a while since I could not get a table there.

I decided to try to find Pool Academy then since it was just in the area as well.
I managed to find the pool hall which was actually on Level 2 in the Ruamchitt Plaza Hotel building, 2 streets away from the building with Robinson's and Mcdonalds.
Place was set up like Players with Brunswick Gold Crowns and Aramith tables but business was bad if you compare it to Players.
Only 2 tables were taken and it was pretty quiet.
I did not try to get a table there as it was pretty late for me and I had to go back to office the next day.

If given a chance to go to Bangkok for a holiday, perhaps I would still try to go Players or Hustlers. :)

Pool bars in Bangkok

Guys,

Just saw a link to my bar (The Sportsman) coming through on the Google Analytics, thought I should pop in and say hello....

For future reference i'll copy in a post from another website over here (with their permission):-

The Sukhumvit area has by far the most pool bars with top quality Brunswick tables in Bangkok. All are conveniently located close to the Bangkok mass transit system more commonly known as the BTS or skytrain. Popular pool venues include:

The Sportsman

Located in Washington square, just a 5 minute walk from the BTS station Phrom Phong and the up market Emporium shopping center. The Sportsman is a large modern venue housing 5 x 8ft Brunswick tables and 3 full size tables. The tables are free to play on between midday and 4pm 7 days a week, and charged at 180 baht per hour for the 8 foot tables and 200 baht for the full size tables at all other times. There is also a challenge table where the loser pays 20 baht. With by far the largest selection of competitively priced beers and ales, as well as a huge lounge area to watch live sports on 3 large high definition projector screens and 10 LCD screens, a large outside area, free internet, and a fantastic range of home cooked food, including steak & kidney pies, English sausages & Sunday roast, the sportsman is the most popular pool venue in Bangkok. Recently added in the outdoor sports lounge are a full size Fullcan table and retro-style digital duke box that’s free and let’s you choose the music you want to listen to. Is there someone in Bangkok who can give advice? :)

Thanks.
