I can't believe he totally overlooked the most famous of all: The Hustler, when two thugs break Fast Eddie's thumbs after he hustles their friend!

Yes, the thumb-breaking is done off-camera, Hitchcock-style behind an opaque door, but that only adds to the effect.

It also happens to be one of the all-time great movies.

You have my attention, it sounds like a good story. Could you elaborate, I like hearing a good pool hall story while slacking off at work.....
