Pool Halls State by State

@Bluehammer, this guy was trying to put together some sort of location system to find pool halls in an area. There were a number of comments critical of his efforts.

You may want to skim the thread and see if it offers anything useful for you.

Lots of people have tried to do this, both with threads, and with websites and apps. It has proved difficult for all the obvious reasons. How should you define "pool hall"? It is hard to find all pool halls, even with Google searches and with other people's input. Even for the ones you do find, it is hard to determine if it meets your definition of pool hall (does it have enough tables that are of the right size etc), and even if you try calling them to confirm those details there is a good chance that the person on the phone doesn't have a clue about table sizes or types etc.

It would be hard enough to compile a complete and accurate list of pool rooms even if nothing ever changed, but then you have the additional problems of pool halls opening and closing all the time and you can never keep up. You also have the problem of pool halls removing tables or adding additional tables, or replacing table/s with some other different table type, any of which potentially changing whether it meets your "pool hall" definition.

Some searches will turn up some past threads on here. Here are some of the current websites that I am aware of that are attempting to keep some kind of list, but they are always various levels of incomplete, out of date, inaccurate, etc:

A big problem with creating a self registering system is that more often than not the staff of the places with tables have no idea that there are people out there that take pool anymore seriously than pinball or darts. It is different than listing walk-in health care clinics or movie theatres. You kind of need to research area yourself.

I can’t seem to find it if it’s on here. Is there a list of current pool halls state by state?
There are some already mentioned. Google often works. Here are several possible search terms, with some showing up more one-table bars and supply stores than others:

pool hall
billiard parlor
pool room
billiards

The organization that logically would maintain such a list is the BCA (not BCAPL/CSI). In fact they have a state-by-state room locator on their website but it appears to be broken. Some error message about "can't properly load map."

Hi, I was actually thinking that the pool league sights might have a list of places / bars / pool halls, where leagues are hosted. At least then, a person might know where serious players go to shoot pool, even if the place only has a few 7 foot bar tables. I feel kind of silly saying that, because what serious pool player would go to hang out at a dive bar, with a few valley bar tables, lol.

I got some good results from this. Results I didnt get from a google search alone. Thanks.

Agree. I could make a LONG list of well regarded CHAMPIONS of the game who have spent time hustling others to MAKE MONEY. As one HOF'r told me years ago " Bill, we're not in church". People that whine about hustling either: A.Got hustled once and are still butthurt and/or B. They don't know shit about the real world. I never bitched when i got hustled. I tip my cap to the person who 'got' me and i move on a lil wiser. Part of the game i miss.

I haven't seen said list but i will add: In OklahomaCity you have Lucky's(the old Trueloves) and Chester's(owned by J. Barton). In Tulsa area you have Magoo's(my home joint), Deep Pockets and Sharky's. Sharky's is more of a club but they have big tables.

I learned faster that way than any other!!

Not really, those that are truly serious don’t do this. It’s relegated to bottom feeders that while perhaps more skilled than their prey, are reticent to take a real game and that speaks volumes about them and their character.
Ouch.
I don't know how you'd get more serious than paying the bills with your axe. I figure some guys just don't want to work that hard for the money. Seen some of the best players in the game going after low hanging fruit. Anybody says otherwise is yanking your chain.
A sure thing beats proving oneself to some dick they couldn't care less about. They know how well they play. They have nothing to prove or gain by butting heads with another strong player. Learn to leave that ego at the door for obvious reasons. Road Players.
I guess I'd better rexamine my character flaws. Didn't realize they were so glaring. I've already been told I have no standards, so you aren't the first. Won't be the last, I'm sure.

That clown doesn't shit know about the game. Tossed him on the Ignore pile, don't have the time to waste on people who have NO clue about the real world. Lives in some squeaky clean fantasy land. He'd shit his pants if he knew just how many HIGHLY regarded players have done EXACTLY what he's trying to knock. They aren't bottom feeders in any way. He needs to take his fkng moral preaching down to the nearest church.
