Pool needs publicity

Put the Mosconi cup teams against each other on the show Wipeout. They could decorate the course in a pool theme and go at it. Great publicity.

Pool in my opinion needs good Marketing for non-pool players and a budget to make pool seem exciting. It currently has neither.

...and have them vote each other off the team in successive episodes -- sort of the reverse spin of the "fan vote" to get on the team. Have tiki torches that are snuffed out as the "capper" when the player's name to be eliminated is announced. Then say, "the tribe has spoken." Sid Waddell could add one of his trademarked wacky one-liners to close the episode. Fade out. :p

Seriously, a great idea. Something like this needs to be done to spark a little interest. I seem to recall a TV reality show with the Striking Viking (Ewa Mataya Laurence) called "Ballbreakers" where the contestants were given $5,000 to place bets with, and then played each other sets in 9-ball. Something like this needs to be resurrected, IMHO, perhaps with a different twist than the original show.

I agree !
Part of the problem though is how pool is perceived by the public. Most of the image of pool the public sees is in advertising, mostly a pool cue in one hand and a beer in the other in a bar, or the pool table as a back drop to guys doing a drug deal or other bad action. I'm afraid that POOL is still a nasty game like the bad reputation that it got from The Music Man movie way back when.
We can't "grow" pool and have young people get involved in the game with that kind of backdrop! (actually negative publicity).
I.M.H.O.

Then the same can be said about NFL. Commercials with the guys watching the game, at a house, bar, tail gate parties, all involving BEER.
And movies with people doing drug deals on the hood of a Mercedes.

I am ready. Lock 15 of'em in a house with a few tables- not Fatboy's- and let them bet it up for a week. Last man standing can leave...or stay:rolleyes:;):D.

There could be challenges- drinking days, early morning surprise table layout, they could even do LSD week, for Sweeps.

Yeah...

Two teams locked in the same house...

During the week, various contests and/or tournaments keeps things interesting...

Each week, each team chooses thier opponent to play on elimination night...

Play a 'race to' or 'best of' on elimination night...

Winner stays, loser gets sent packin'...

Winner gets to choose following week's elimination game (9 ball, 8 ball, 14.1, etc)...

What could the grand prize be for the last man standing ?

I got another challenge night: Mexican food night.

Yup, with as many as can fit in a phone booth. With limited ventilation. Points given to those that can make the glass reverberate. First one that opens the door (or turns blue from holding his/her breath) gets voted out.
