Pool player kicks De La Hoya's ass

I took the normal pool approach and didn't bet against a Phillipino, my sweat bet wasn't enough to cover the PPV but cuts down on the cost to watch the fight

Damn, I wanted to see it.

WHat were the odds? I am no fight detective, but it woulda taken something real special to get my $ behind delahoya...

Way to go Manny!!!

Remember sweating him play 10 000 and 15 000 sets in February 2007, in Manila, against a mayor who also liked to bet high. Yes, the bets were $, not pesos :D

If I am not mistaken they played races to 21 in 9-ball, but you had to win with 2 games. I believe Pacman gave some hcp to the mayor.

They had decided to play 7 sets!!! 7 x 10 000 $...

They started around 8-9 in the evening, and at 9 in the morning Pacman was 1 set down, but they still had a few sets left to play. They finished this marathon-match in less than 24 hours. Don't know who won in the end, but it was a close match with some exciting sets so probably only a 1 set victory.

Manny knows how to pocket some balls, that's for sure.

Cool pics, JAM! Thx for sharing.

Random thoughts...
To reiterate what has already been said, boxing itself is a sham...so many weight classes, so many divisions, so many organizations. It's no wonder the sport is mired with cheating...there is too much stuff going on for anyone to really notice or care.

That being said (and w/o watching the fight) Manny is obviously still cresting on an already great career, and De La Hoya's career has been in decline pretty much since he was robbed of victory against Trinidad, victory against Fernando Vargas notwithstanding.

My thoughts are anyone complaining about paying for the fight needs to take a look at the man in the beer reflection, because it has been made apparent that these fights De La Hoya has been promoting and fighting in, he is way, way the underdog.

Anyway, props De La Hoya for a great career (39 wins - 30 KOs - 6 losses). I hope you're happy in retirement. I used to watch all of your fights.

oscar has been in a few other heist' only he was doing the robbing.

I can't believe anyone pays for boxing anymore with UFC around. UFC makes boxing look like a joke.
LOL
Their heavyweight champion is an ex-pro wrestler with 6 fights? There's a joke.

ODH got his jazz handed to him by a younger and hungrier fighter in his prime.
The 2-1 betting odds was ridiculous. It went down to 7-5 when Pac's backers came to Vegas earlier this week.
Caaaa ching!!!!

I disagree with that statement. I have regretted every PPV UFC fight I have paid for. Boxing does have its share of duds but then you get that one great fight that sucks you back into the sport. The most recent was the Margarito-Cotto fight a few months back. UFC is pretty boring to me, and the way I see it that sport is resembling WWE more every day.

I have Direct TV and had to pay an extra $10 to get the fight in HD. Am I the only one who is really pissed off about that? I know that I pay an extra $10 a month per HD reciever on my account. Since I pay for these receivers shouldn't I get all programs in HD that are offered. They pulled the same move the NFL Sunday ticket package selling the package for one price and then only giving the games in standard definition after the first week, I had to pay an extra $100 to be able to watch the games in HD. Do companies like comcast charge extra for PPV programs in HD as well?

Agreed. UFC fights are good to watch. The titles that come with the wins...they're all jokes. How can someone who only have 6 matches under his belt become the number one contender? It's cuz Dana White says so.

I AGREE, boxing is the past to boring now that the UFC is mainstream now.

Quit paying for it, UFC fights are streamed all over the internet and no its not stealing unless its a crime now to click on a link. But its an option.

I wonder how much De la Hoya made for the fight.

Money Earned.

The Golden Boy is expected to make just over $20,000,000 and Manny is supposed to get around $11,000,000 after all is settled.
I guess he can play some $10,000 sets. Also, he has been designated a National Treasure in the Philippines if I have the title right. Also, made and making movies.
When I saw that picture of him without the shirt I thought I was looking into a mirror...except for the mustache.

I heard somewhere that Dela Hoya's cut was closer to $40 million

Jay,
In all fairness to ODH I would have to say that it was a boxer that also plays pool that beat him. I cant see a pool player of any decent caliber having the time to be a pro boxer. I can see a pro boxer that fight once a blue moon having some spare time to play pool though.

Danny Deliberto was a professional fighter and professional pool player and also played some professional baseball also....

Dennis Hatch also was a boxer.

I can't believe how bad the betting line turned out to be for this match. Didn't you have to bet 180 to win 100 betting on Oscar?

Dennis is a "NEW YORK GOLDEN GLOVE" winner.......

Don't think for a minute Oscar doesn't know what he's doing, it's big business, he's made more than One Hundred Million Dollars with his last three fights.

Calling MANNY a pool player is like calling BARRACK a bassetball playa...

i think we CAN agree on calling ODLH "done"

How many Pool Rooms had free PPV of the fight ???

In Phoenix, We were lucky to have a free showing of the fight on several giant screens at Bullshooters, while we competed in the Desert Classic Tour, stop # 9. We should have panned around the room with Lenny's live stream.
It was Standing Room Only, and its a hugh room. Also on, was the hugh in-state rivalry football game, ASU vs. U of A.
I nailed almost every Tucson pool player with an EVEN bet. They didn't care that ASU was a 12 point favotite. (the idiots!)
Final score... U of A, 31- ASU, 10. Then the creep's robbed me for several more $$$ playing pool after the tournament.
It was not a good night for Dickie.

Dick (the smart Bookie)

PS. Gum9ball and his Road partner AD, got me drunk. I am plotting revenge.

Well Mr Bookie,

Sorry you had "not a good night" but if memory serves me you seemed to have a very good time as you invested in your future. It was fun "getting" you drunk and taking advantage but I seem to recall trying to quit when we were even and then you put a shot of Yukon Jack to my head and suggested we play another set.

It was a fun time and for once I was able to book 3 winners in one night: The U of A game, the De La Hoya fight and winning a race to three in one pocket playing the world famous San Jose Dick. It was a good night for me and I had nothing to do with your adventures with the AD. That was all your doing.:(

It was a fun night for me too George, I had as much fun as I ever had losing. I need to play more often (and bring more $$$)
