What are the pool video sites you know of where videos are always available for download for free or pay-per-view.

I guess that just about all of these could be download with various techniques.

I will start the list with what I know. PPV= Pay Per View

SEE!!! I didn't know that Accu-Stats had started this PPV service. I just bought my first one - Archer vs Louie Roberts. $6 for almost two hours. Can't wait to go home later and watch it.

Actually it looks like pool fans are getting pretty well served with video on demand through the web. I can only guess it's going to get better and better from here on out.

I would like to encourage EVERYONE to go and buy a PPV video from AccuStats to support Pat Fleming and all he has done and continues to do for professional pool during the last 20 years.

Come on folks - we say support TAR and it's right that we should but now we can do something to support the guy who started it all.

Pat Fleming is being inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame this year. Let's all show him how much we appreciate all he has done for pool and the awesome amount of pool history he has preserved for us.

It would be great if all the AZB YouTube contributors would upload to PoolVids.com instead (or at least in addition). I can manage the categorizations and make the content easier to find as the library grows.

I will upload the Kelly Fisher stuff I have. Do you have any size limits?
 
Thanks! Current size limit per upload is 100MB although that could be adjusted. If you're doing any level of compression it shouldn't be a problem, unless it's a very long video. Again, I can adjust if I start finding it's not enough space. I'm on a dedicated server (but I share a couple of other sites with it; point is they're all my own).

How about uploading your stuff to AZBtv as well? Just go the user upload button and fire away. And all of our content is free with one exception, a match we could get no other way. It is our intent to be a free service supported by advertising.

My pleasure. Honestly I haven't kept up with all that is available in this area, either as a viewer or a contributer.

I should have also uploaded all the videos to every place that I could.

In fact, we all should. Since it's our common goal to promote pool then we the pool community should be sharing our videos with each other's websites and all the YouTube like sites we can. It can only help to get more people playing the sport we love and as they say a rising tide lifts all boats.

Let's use the net as it should be used. To connect.

Jerry -- I'll PM you later tonight or tomorrow; I agree this content (Kelly Fisher) is probably better-suited for AZB. Perhaps we can somehow partner (I realize I'd be "marrying up" here :)) to reference pro videos to AZB, and reference amateur / home pool videos to PoolVids.com. Pool instruction should go to Dr. Dave. Would be interested in your thoughts on that. I'd prefer to keep it all "in the family" -- i.e., let's use pool enthusiast domains for the best content, instead of necessarily defaulting to generic sites like YouTube. The future will migrate things this way anyhow.

Is it okay to upload recorded TV programs?

I'm assuming AccuStat and the like material would be a no no.

We get around the legal issues the same way that YouTube does. Anyone who uploads the video is supposed to have ownership or the right to publish. This, of course, is largely ignored as the networks do not have time to chase tiny infractions on programming they care little about. That said, AZB cannot assume that any person uploading will not be the 'test case' that someone may be seeking, so do so in the knowledge that it is at your own risk.

Please do not upload Accu-Stat or TAR or any other PPV videos as this would harm friends of ours who are just trying to make a living. What we really do seek is video of play from pre-1960. Most of this would be home video or video on which the rights have expired and is the film that we want to preserve and protect before it is lost for all time.
 
Any more? How about Europe and the Eurotour? Or Carom Cafe?

This isn't technically videos but it's worth a listing anyway for the sheer value.

www.cuetable.com Shot Diagrams - this site is so innovative it's hard to describe it much less digest the thousands of shots that have been diagrammed there. You can upload any shot from the archive. VERY SLICK and USEFUL.
 
Does the IPT have a listing of the free vs. premium videos? Everytime I check there, you click on a video, sometimes it plays, other times it tells you it's for Premium Members. If anyone has contact with them, please tell them to clearly label the matches as Basic or Premium. I stopped visiting there because of this annoyance and only do Propoolvideo and AZ.

TV is owned by the station, very few videos end up on public domain like books. I have heard stories where an old video was lost because the networks did not choose to air it, or back it up properly, but refused to let others do the same.

Legaly, you would see a copyright notice somewhere in the video, you can see and hear it clearly on ESPN and such "this broadcast is copyright of the blah blah network". If there is no copyright listed in the WHOLE program (meaning it's not a copy where someone edited it out), you may still have to contact the network/owner to obtain rights.

It may be safe to post anyway as much of the time things go unnoticed unless it's on a huge network like YouTube where they monitor regularly. You may want to call up the legal dept. at NBC and ask if they have heard of azbilliards.com. If not, it's safe to post ;) :D

As an aside to this, maybe one of the AZ folks could contact AccuStats to get some short clips on legally on the site as a teaser. Maybe a couple of racks of a match. I know if I see something like that I tend to buy the whole thing much more often than just reading reviews on something. Heck even posting 1/4 or more of the match is good if you leave out the end and some key racks/shots.
