Pool Wars by Jay Helfert

This is definitely "your" kind of story Johnny. All non fiction too by the way. Bobby's been there, done that! Ask any old timer about Cotton. They all know him.

Ming Ng is at the WPBA Regional Championships in WA. She won her first match. The streaming from there is down right now.

Happy to see you get a good start with your book sales. I hope ya sell tons of them. Johnnyt

PS: Opps, I meant this as a PM sorry.

Here is a little bit about Jay:

Back in the 80's in N. Ca Sacramento, Reno etc. I kinda knew Jay we spoke just a few times but I knew who is was. Back in those days I didnt have any $$ and was shy, and a C player. I was very interested in the "Pool Culture" the players, gamblers, all the charcters. I watched for years as games were made, who beat who, who was playing good/bad etc. I have a very good memory(lst few years it isnt what it was) but my long term memory is good.

Moving foward 20 years I get re aquinted with Jay and we become the best of friends, and me still interested in pool players, past and present I ask Jay lots of questions some of which I knew the answeres to from the scene back in Sacramento/Reno/Hardtimes La(to a lesser extent), but I did know Sacramento. EVERYTHING Jay has ever told me has been 100% accurate, no BS. he dosent say it was $20,000 when it was $2,000-he says $2,000. I have never caught jay revising history, he dosent color it brighter than it was, and I like that fiction is fun but in pool it pisses me off, what happened was great enough that it dosent have to be revised to sell and Jay is 100% honest.

On a couple very rare times I knew something a bit better than Jay like what happened in Modesto or Stockton and when I tell Jay he listens to me and I have heard him repete what I have told him-EXACLTY as I told him.

my long story comes to a short point. When Jay Helfert dsays something its exactly how it was, no fluff. And I like that, no I love that. I dont like war stories that didnt happen.

Thanks Jay for being a friend, and JoeyA. I'm also glad to see both of you getting along-you both are too good to argue.

I'm quoting myself, this is a important point and needs to up top again for others to read,

Jay was kind enough to let me read his book, JoeyA did a brillaint job writing the first part the "intro" or what ever its called, I just wanted to publically complment JoeyA for helping Jay Helfert.

Jay did a great job, its a very good read. I have ADD and it takes me along time to finish a book, LOL if I finish the book, With Jays book I finished it-I read slow so it took along time, there is alot there and it kept me interested, even if I didnt know Jay It still would have held my attention the same. Jay can write.

Interesting thing I noticed, he is improving as a writer, I could tell the first parts he wrote they wernt as "polished" for lack of a better word-still very good stuff, Jay resent me the final copy and he polished everything up. My point is Jay is a writer now-he has been a colomnust/magazine article writer for years-big difference for books. Jay's up comming books will just get better and better-but dont worry Pool Wars isnt a amature book it is professionally written.

At one point it made me cry, Gods honest truth when you read it you'll know what EXACTLY at what point and why, I'm not embarassed to admit it.

Congratulations Jay on completing your book-now go start a new one. I think-no I know Jay will be writing more books and they will all be successful. Peter Capstick was a very sucessful writer of Safari stories of hunting dangerous game in the bush in AfricaHe like Jay had alot of experience to draw on and took all that and used it to become a ledgendary writer, Jay is on the same path I can see it. Its all there, experience, time, ability to write, customers. Everything is lined up. Go get'em Jay!!!!

best

Okay guys, here's the deal. We will go to print next week and I should have 500 books in hand by March 15-20. The first 500 will be a numbered lot, and will be the only books that are numbered. I will offer them first on AZ until there are no more orders or the 500 are gone, whichever comes first. At that time, I will begin the regular advertising in the billiard trades.

The number one edition is taken (by Corvette), so the first book I sell will say 2/500. I will begin taking orders today, and you will receive your numbered edition in the order that I receive payment. You can pay for your signed and numbered copy at my Paypal address - jayhelfert@yahoo.com or by check at P.O. Box 1883, Redondo Beach, CA. 90278.

Total cost including shipping is $24.90. Please include the name you want me to use inside, whether it be your given name or your AZ name or both. All I ask for is your honest feedback on the book. I intend to write at least one or two more books, so any feedback is helpful. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for posting this. In the first 24 hours, I've pre-sold 74 books and have about a dozen more orders coming via mail. What an amazing initial response! I have a feeling that the 500 numbered first edition copies might all be sold thru AZ. After that, I will continue to autograph copies but they will not be numbered.

At risk of sounding like the RealKingCobra, I ask for patience from all who have ordered books already. It will be a monumental undertaking to sign, pack, and address all these orders. And then I have to take them to the post office for mailing. It could be an all day job just to do 50-100 of them.

If anyone knows a shortcut for this process (particularly at the post office) let me know. I've never walked in a post office with more than three or four items before. If I carry a case of fifty books (all packaged) in there, I don't know what to expect. Will the clerk at the counter be willing to weight and stamp each book for me? Naturally I ask for support on here, it's the best support system I know of. Maybe someone knows a way I can get thru all the red tape of individually weighing and mailing each book. Suggestions???

176 total pages and it is a spined paperback with four color cover; 6"x9", a fairly standard size. I went for the high quality paper and cover material, plus the deluxe binding. Hopefully it will look nice and be well made.

Jay, just purchased the book through Pay Pal. Just make sure to use the exact address listed with payment since there is a very similar address in my hometown and the lady is a nut and seems that sometimes keeps my items or returns them as she pleases. I've had items from this lady delivered to my address and I deliver to her but she does not do the same for me.
