I never have had any formal lessons,
but i have often wondered about the whole thing

Here is an idea i like

Let all of us who want to get together put up $500 each
and meet
omewhere like dallas

we invie DR Dave,Randy etc ive them $500 or so each and spend a day
these instructors must mingle ansewer questions, demonsrtrate shots etc

just have a good time together

they can set up appointments ,sell whatever so they have a long term benefit
and the rest of us who paid get to ask questions and shown whatever
all the $500 entry fee goes to the instructors so they get paid something

I think a day would be enough, but anything extra is up to the participants

I figure we need at least10 customers and Dr Dave and the rest who could be decided upon by the people paying

I personally want to meet dr d and see things hands on,a day way from home is my max

why don't you guys who would like to attend reply, and make recommendations
of who would be interesting

Then if Dr Dave or Nick Varner or someone of interest wants to come

then lets get together

dean, that sounds great, if only someone could come up with a name for that like pool school or something similar.

I think you are on to something here.

i am missing the point
i want to spend a day with various instructors and players willing to put up 500 for the privledge with the money going to the various different instructors

is this called pool school and someone is doing it already

Thanks for the sincere help
,Here we Go
That was a lot to read
I never thought of it before, but yes i would love to do something like that

you know I don't play very good, but i do play better than the average instructor and am reluctant to take lessons from people who can not beat me

if Nick was here or mark and nick ,I would go in a minute

If Dr Dave is an instructor or not,I don't know, but I would spend money to ask question and show me things
He seems like he knows what he is talking about

Plus, i don't catch on watching only, I know nothingabout stroke or aiming systems

I do know enough one pocket to play for a few thousand dollars with a spot

I just got to wondering if someone showed me the basics if I could improve my ball making

I'm no 1 pocket player, but I might get talked into taking some 9-6 and giving you a lesson at the same time.

2 birds, 1 stone.

You could likely go and spend an entire day 1-on-1 with any one of the top pool instructors for $500, or possibly less. The opportunity to pick all their brains for one day sounds a little overwhelming to most of us.

Black balled.. I have had plenty of lessons like you describe
I hope my last in fact,I must say my opinion of you has risen
because of your generous offer

Chris in NC
i was hoping that getting about 12 guys with $500 each we could get Dr Dave
or who ever is the best at actually helping for a day or two

I don't think Dave would teach for $500 per day, especially traveling

So I hoped there were 11 or so others that would enjoy investing in their game, meeting others ,perhaps developing lifetime friendships

I am not promoting anything if Dave reads this and takes the bull by the horns he can count on me for one pupil

Other than since all I do is practice, Ray Martin or Dr Dave or bothi don't think I would be interested

This is not a knock on anyone, these are just the ones I would enjoy meeting, playing and having them help me make balls,
shoot straighter

I like the idea. Maybe 150-250 a head would be more reasonable for this type of thing. You can get 1 on 1 lessons, or go to a pool school that’s already set up but this sounds like a more informal type of learning experience. Get together with friends or meet internet buddies you already get along with, play some games while the learned folk watch and comment. Break off and work on stuff with someone who’s style you like etc. See which instructor works best for 1 on 1 later.

Just a cool idea no need to get miffed : )

Good idea although Teach Off comes to mind;

or lolapoolooza...

Hanging out in a popular action spot would be more practical. Wish we had a pool room out here.

Damn. Thought I might learn a new shot or 2...

Dean,

If I was you, I'd call C.J. Wiley.

He gives pool lessons and he lives in the same place you do.

He'd come to your house and you could take your lessons while still wearing your pajamas.

He is one teacher who can actually do what he is teaching.

At one point in time, he was one of the top money players in the world and he ain't no slouch now.

If you don't have his number, PM me and I'll give it to you or call him for you.

Aloha.

It's a great idea Dean , I thought of something similar about 20 years ago but couldn't find anyone else with 500 .
I would love to visit and chat and maybe even try to play , but pool lessons are the last thing I need at this point in my life.
If you can find a way to buy back bar stool time, deal me in.

Fellas I am not trying to cause competition or joking
I really just plyed a game all my life and upon reflection realized
that I know nothing about it

I know my stroke is unreliable, I just don't know why. I have trouble drawing my ball or hitting the cue ball hard

I never took the time or even thought I could do anything to improve.
Now when I hear Dr Dave talking on these videos it makes me wonder what if?

It is coming too late to help me win any money. The one consistent themof my playing pool
But now that I am old and stuck in the house with a nice 9 footer i would like
to see if I could learn and improve.

i ran 56 balls, but I got lucky rolls,I would like to run 100 balls regularly. to do that I need a better stroke, and things I know nothing about.

I will also need to meet with Ray Martin and get a better understanding of patternsetc

Either that or just quit playing.

Does anyone else feel the same way and want to put together a group of us to have a memorable time of our life?

Plus will Dr Dave agree to do it if we get the $6000(5 x 12) for a couple of days

If not I am pretty sure Ray Martin will and I would be happy as could be learning from him,
I plan to do that anyway

This sounds like a lot of fun. I have done a few of these. I went to one with Nick Varner and Johnny Archer.About ten people. We broke up into two groups. Each group spent two hours with each instructor. I went to two with Mike Sigel. The second one no one hit any balls. Mike just talked the whole time. Interesting but not what I was looking for.
I went to St Louis and spent a couple of days with Mark Wilson.
I prefer one on one instruction. In a large group you will have people of different levels needing different advice.
Some peope want help with advance one pocket information. Some people need help with fundementals.
If the price was reasonable I would probably do something like this. I am sure I would enjoy just picking up some tips.

Dean...Yes, it's already being done. It's called the SPF National Pool School Tour, and it's sponsored by Predator Revo Cues. 4 day pool school with the best professional instructors in the country...each school limited to 8 students and 8 instructors (Randy and several other instructors are part of this). Tuition for these schools is $1999 per student. IMO you would need twice the number you talked about (10 people at $500 each) to make your idea feasible.

No offense, but he's referring to Nick Varner, Mark Wilson or Ray Martin (legends)....and Dr. Dave who has shared so much FREE info, I'm sure he could give a great academic instruction on why the science works, etc.

I've seen Nick and Martin giving group clinics at Cue and Cushion and the participants appeared to be getting a lot out of it! My buddy Sandy (a regular) fell asleep beside the 3 cushion table, and Mark Wilson took a photo of him and posted it on facebook saying this is what happens when he gives lessons, or something along those lines. IT was funny.

No offense taken Matt. However, Dean did mention Randyg, who is every bit as good an instructor as any of the gentlemen you mentioned, and better than some of them. Ask Mark about how Randy teaches...or ask him about me.
