Just curious, when people put together videos of other players, then post them on YouTube, the videos could be from matches in events, put together videos, whatever. If those videos draw clicks from viewers, then actually draw a payment for viewership, do the players that were ACTUALLY IN the videos recieve any payment from the person posting the videos of them???

I am sure Accu-Stats does. I doubt anyone is making much. The players do get exposure for what that's worth.

How much does exposure pay?
Nothing is stopping those players from starting their own YouTube channels.
As far as exposure, it does have value. Waiting for a check $15.00 it short sighted.

I'm just thinking back, I remember wanting to hire Ray Martin to do a pool clinic. He had to send me a VHS tape to review. There was no YouTube.

These players, many who are not really top names can do exibitions, do clinics, give lessons and so on. Yes they get exposure.
Players sitting around waiting for a handout has always been the problem. I am sorry, if I don't feel sorry for players who can't make a living.

I think the bigger issue is that usually the content they are reposting is owned by someone else. So there is an IP issue with the original content creators.

The channel receives the money (assuming it's monetized), what they do with the money is up to them. But I always wondered if those channels that just uploaded content copied from tv broadcasts actually got money for those views.

That said, the real value in those videos is more so the exposure than the actual money it draws. Chris Mellings 8 ball run out has been posted many times and has several millions of views from people outside of the pool community. That is tremendous exposure, whether he did anything with it or not. But individual videos on YouTube make *roughly* one dollar per 1000 views.

The short answer is no; however, videos on hosting sites like youtube can only be monitized by the content creator or within the fair use doctrine.

If, for instance, someone were to take an existing match video and add a video inset with commentary, THAT video can be monetized.

If the content creator or someone who knows who the content creator is, is not aware that the video exists and is on youtube, then it could be monetized without being reported and no one would be compensated.

There is no expectation of privacy in public in general and people cannot generally refuse to be on camera or require compensation for being on camera for a recording made in public. There comes a gray area when said video is published for profit and some circumstances allow for people to refuse to be televised etc.

There are other guidelines as well, but it wouldn't stop the content from being online, just from being monetized. Any content creator knows that if songs that are copyrighted are played without permission, monetization is unlikely. Again, it comes to the fair use doctrine.

I have a youtube channel where I've worked on car projects called e.motion garage. I've had videos demonitized (well, actually I don't have enough subscribers to even be monetized yet, but I've had videos flagged) because of background music that I thought was copyright free that ended up not being so.

Exposure is what any form of entertainment is all about! Sports is a form of entertainment to the paying masses. Pool can fall into that category if they did it right. Thus players with a lot of exposure who meet certain paying entities' criteria for sponsorship opportunities etc. will be sought after by those sponsors and paid accordingly.

There is no real pay for anyone in an entertainment venue if the venue itself is not sought after by the public. Don't knock exposure, knock the folks who don't know what to do with it!

I would think someone who is starting a new tour to save pool would already have the answers to questions like this, right?

Nope. That was an easy one! Hopefully the thread is over now.

Why not just tell us the answer, tell us what we should think about it, tell us that none of us know anything about anything, how we are the problem...and save us all the pretending there is an actual question on the table?

I'm lost, did you think I was asking you a question? because I wasn't!

U-tube has so much for free on Pool, matches, instructional stuff, equipment reviews, etc.

Best of all zero cost except device, and Wi-Fi.👀

A run on sentence with 3 question marks at the end generally suggests someone has a question, and it wasn't addresses to anyone in particular.

Quantity is not the same as quality, and searching for something specific to watch is not all that easy, then a lot of tournament matches can't be watched in full because they've been edited for shorter viewing by cutting out games played.

TONS AND TONS . So many are in hidef and professional production .
No, players don't get paid .
They got paid in their participation to the tournaments if they placed .
They carry ads on their clothes .

There billions of movie/tv scenes edited and posted on youtube and movie makers and actors do not get paid for them.

Plus many who have U-Tube channels do not get paid either.
