Pounding on the Top rail/Foul

I think this should fall under the same idea of putting your hand in the pocket, but the cueball doesn’t scratch. Both look bad. Both should be a foul, and it should be an explicit rule. IMNSHO.

If I see the CB headed for a scratch I'll benk over the pocket and scream ."STOP YOU BITCH STOP STOP STOP ."

Sometimes it works.

You're saying the vibrations from my voice is a foul?
Speed of sound through air vs through rigid slate. Not even close to the same thing.

Suggest a warning be issued to players for first offense. Even if this was covered in the players meeting, ref will look like a nit.
Thx Nate, I like your answer. Next pounding incident loss of that game, and a third time.....loss of set?

Have you ever played in a bar so loud you can feel the bass when you put your hands on the table?
No, never. I also have never been in a bar, and I’ve never played pool, and I’ve never had opponents pounding on the Pool table to will a ball into the pocket or try to slow down the cueball. I’ve never become a degreed mechanical engineer, and I don’t work on vibration and acoustic wave application every …single …day.

But by all means, tell me more of why I hate Internet forums.

Tell me more about vibration and wave theory.
Well I didn't mean to insult your expertise.

Perhaps improved reading comprehension would have allowed you to surmise that putting your face in front of a rolling ball and yelling at it may indeed slow the ball. It will definitely make you appear as a a@#.

Don't know why the ref should look like a nit. A lot of these posts sound like a good way to get your ass kicked. Seems like the ref just saved you.

A big event was on video years ago. A handful of the Filipino players were tapping on the rail with a piece of chalk as if it changed the roll of a ball. I don't remember if it was supposed to lengthen or shorten the roll. I do remember that the officials ignored the behavior. I think it was considered a bit of silliness more than something effective.

Hu

one thing i do know is that players that do anything out of the ordinary during the game seem to always be losers. so i dont worry about them.
they never win so they find ways to help them win that dont involved playing well. i dont like them necessarily but they add to my wins or a prize pool.
if i want everyone to be perfect gentlemen i will go to England and play snooker.

In theory it could slow down the ball. I think it’s bad etiquette and it’s reasonable to ask them not to do that because it disrespects the equipment. But I’d be very hesitant to call foul. I feel like that’s just asking for drama. They would have to be doing it extremely deliberately and more than once for me to intervene. At the end of the day, I’d that’s all it takes for someone to beat me then I need to practice more. Because I don’t really see it turning any tides.

Similar to a player who after missing a shot, taps (or harder) his cue on the table cloth in frustration. Just an extremely bad habit. If you wish to abuse your cue after a miss, don’t involve any other pool equipment that is not yours!
