Practice Drills ~ Post Them Up!

Well I realized I do get out and play a good amount of the time and its usually action or a tourney once a week but what I need is practice. I set the drill up below a few nights ago because the last time I did it I played very well for about 2 weeks after. You set up a straight in shot and hit it either using draw, follow or a stop shot, play 7 or 8 balls in one corner and then switch to the other corner, difficult drill on a tight table.

I focused on keeping my bridge hand and arm locked down to the table with no movement and believe me the arm was sore from it, never had that happen but I played very well after. This drill is obviously for staying down and shooting straight. :)

I just want to see what other drills are out there and what they are good for, so post up your favorite, I recommend obviously using the Cuetable at http://cuetable.com/WeiTable/ to show your drills.

This is alot harder than it looks, but VERY rewarding

Take ball in hand and make any ball you want. You must send the cueball into another ball after making the OB. You can use the rails to make the carom.

If you make a successful shot, the ball stays down and you shoot again. Do not move the ball you bumped with the cueball. It stays where you bumped it and you continue. Try and run off all 5 balls the same way. If you miss the ball or the carom, you must start all over.

Another variation is to continue spotting each ball you make so you have more targets. Not only is this very challenging, but it is alot of fun. I promise it will improve your nine ball game

Enjoy

Awesome drill, DR 1!

Thanks Blackjack for posting the layout, I am not so good with computers.

Trust me when I tell you that this drill has made me want to rip the hair out of my head :D (what's left of it) lol

Here's a couple I like:

CueTable Help

Shoot the balls in order into pocket A. Really have to pay attention to your angles on the 4, 5, and 6. Freeze the balls to the rail for more of a challenge.

CueTable Help

Same thing but lengthwise, force yourself to go back and forth across the table each time to work on speed and draw/spin, or do it where you can go three rails or play for straighter position.

CueTable Help

Shoot in order into either corner pocket at the end of the table, working back and forth. Start with 3 balls in a line, then 4, then 5. Really works on various types of shots (long follow with slight english one way or the other, draw with outside, 2 rails out of the corner, etc.) to get from one end to the other, and keeping angles is crucial...

CueTable Help

Similar concept, works on back and forth usually going 2 rails but sometimes having to pull off a recovery route to get back in line.

I could go on - I have collected a whole binder full of them from various sources - but here's one last one I've done recently:

CueTable Help

9 ball layout, all the balls on the rails are frozen. Works on a lot of different skills and fun to solve the puzzle a few different ways, either on purpose or on accident... :)

Enjoy!

a binder?? post em up!

maybe if i print them out i will actually focus and do them. score sheet too!

Practice drill along rails

Her's a neat drill for shots along the rail, while also learning about postion play. All object balls are aligned along the rails as shown. If you want you can move them slightly off the rails for a bit more difficulty. Take ball in hand to start and then pocket each object in the corner pockets only. Cue ball remains in place after each shot. You cannot hit any other object ball while making the shot. If you miss or hit another object ball start over.

I had a lot of fun with this Bert Kinister drill. It's a rail position/speed drill. I may misremember the layout a bit. Bear with me on the diagram, here's how you do it:

1. from BIH (cueball A) sink the 1 and get shape on the 2 (red line)

2. Sink the 2 and get on the 3. Try to leave a cut that has plenty of angle.

3. Zigzag 2 rails (black line) from the 3 to the 4. Scratching looms large here.

Sink the 4 and you get 1 point.
Bonus: Sink the 4 and zigzag the CB to end up near B, get 1 extra point.

B is a mirror image of A. If you manage to get there, put back all the balls at the opposite end of the table (along the bottom and right rail) and repeat the drill. All points from here on are doubled until you miss or screw up position.

This is one of my favorite Kinister drills. I think it's called the six pointed star. Balls are placed at random on the middle of each rail. Run in numerical order. It's a great drill for any rotation game.

I usually just play the ghost 14.1, 1-hole, or banks. If I run into a shot I have problems with I'll work on it till it's comfortable.

To help everyone, here two sections filled with CueTable drill layouts. Maybe about 80 layouts all together.

1, Drill Videos by friends on the internet + Layouts

http://talk.cuetable.com/forumdisplay.php?f=117

2, Drill Layouts archived from the past few years (In both WeiTable and CueTable format, CueTable can read WeiTable data)

http://talk.cuetable.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

I am working on a catalog list for people to access them easier. For the meantime, please feel free to make comments to any of the them. Even better, you can post your youtube videos there for everyone to share...

Have fun and please send any suggestions you may have :)
