There seems to be a serious decline in the number of pool rooms out there.

Especially those that cater to the purists and good players.

I won't even go in to pool rooms anymore unless I know the owner is a player themself and takes care of the equipment and environment as such.

So, I pose the question, if there were a private billiard club (members and member guests only) in your area, would you join?

Let's say for shits n' giggles it would cost you $100 a month.
 
$100 a month, for unlimited play? If not, how much would be the table time? Any other freebies other than being allowed to enter the door?
 
of course. I know of one club ecxactly like that. 100 per month and they have a full kitchen
 
Is There An Area For POKER ?

It depends. Are they going to have gang bangers and Rap/Hip Hop music ?

I am not going to vote. I have a table at home, so that settles that.

If I didn't have a table at home, I might pay $100 a month, but that better included unlimited table time...that would be the only way.
 
This is a tough and timely question. I have the opportunity now to do precisely what the poll is asking. I would love to, but right now I do not have the time to make it worthwhile. Maybe in a few years.
 
A private billiard club is something I've been hoping of as well in the DC area, in lieu of all the closures or otherwise distracting atmosphere of existing pool halls.

I would love a place where I could play others who are serious about the game. A monthly fee would help keep out those who aren't serious.

I do have a table, and I usually play or practice by myself, but it is more fun to compete with people. $100/month is very reasonable. A pool club would serve the purpose of a gathering place for very serious players.

Now, if I had the funds to open such a place, I would have it large enough to hold regular tournaments; I would provide the top 50 pros gratis membership; I would have it open 24 hours, of course; I would have a nice kitchen; I would have 24 hour pool coverage, online and DVD's; I would have a couple tables with live streaming; etc., etc....

Since I didn't win powerball, those plans will be on hold temporarily.
 
Almost every real room around here is members only due to liquor laws in NC. In NC, if you serve liquor, a certain percentage of sales has to be food in order to qualify to be open for everyone. If you don't meet that percentage, you have to have a membership. If you only serve beer, this requirement doesn't apply. The rooms around here which have full bars with liquor usually don't sell enough food, so they're required to be private. Usually, the membership is between $1 and $5 per year, as most rooms see this as a formality only.

That description makes me drool. If I come across funds, I will do exactly that!

I Belong To A Members Only Club. We Have 4 Gc4. We Ask That You Donate $1 Per Hour. The Better Players Scoff At That. The Lower Rank Players Pay No Questions Asked. We Have A Full Good Kitchen. Cheap Drinks. Dues Are $20 Per Year. We Also Have Punch Board And Ticket Machine Gambling ( Which Is Under Pa Lic. Control ). Very Few Of The Players Play These Games. For Pool It Is As Good As It Gets Around Here As There Are No Open Pool Rooms.

With that in mind, couldn't a public pool room with out a liquor license then become a members only club, charge $1 fee to become a member (like a cover charge) and let the booze flow?
 
I have a competition table at home but would also pay for a club membership populated by serious players. There are many many things that could be done.

I voted no. Because I don't go out to shoot much more than 1 or 2 times a month. I have a table at home. But after some thought, if the time was free and it was close to my home it probably would be worth it. I need it to be close. There is always a few Coors in my future. Has anyone noticed what the chemistry experiment that is going on in Smorg's avatar is? BONG it just hit me, nevermind!!!!!:eek: :eek:
 
Yes, Absolutely! I used to live in Illinois. I was a guest at the Illinois Billiard Club. It was an incredible concept and a very nice place. I really wished I could join, but it was just a bit too far as to be convenient to visit on a regular basis. I would love to join a private billiard club, if it was close enough to my home.
 
I voted no, but if the club met my personal needs then yes, I'd pay perhaps twice that much.

My needs would be .....

1. NO ridiculous loud vulgar war music, in fact no loud music period.

2. No smoking except for special smoking rooms.

3. One dollar bottled beer

4. Padded carpeted floors with excellent playing equipment

5. Plenty of room between tables.

6. Free coffee

7. Some who tells wives they haven't seen you. :)
