Double Hits, Push Shots, Miscues: Object balls frozen to the cue ball or very close to the cue ball require you to elevate the cue approximately 45 degrees to stroke the shot. This will be considered a legal shot even though a double hit may occur.

This is a first for me, because, I never knew there were situations where a dbl hit was legal. Must be the better way to go in this event & speed up play.

I think a better solution would be to have a ref come over to watch close shots and to use the WSR rule. It's randomly made up rules like this one that confuse the players who play by the "official" rules elsewhere. I think there are several other "DCC special" rules.

So you can freely double hit the cue ball as long as you raise your cue butt a little?
Sounds like a rule you'd find in a bar league, not a refereed tournament.

The matches are not refereed for the most part.

Yep, that's what it says, I did copy/paste from the webpage. :sorry::wink:

If the cue ball is froze to the rail you can move it the width of the butt of your cue away from the rail...just like in bars.

I don't have a problem with it in nine ball or ten ball.
People have been doing this at the poolroom I go to, playing one pocket.
Citing Derby Cityas the source, which I do think allowed it last year in the 1 Pocket.
I think it is just another terrible idea for One Pocket.

In nine ball, you keep shooting after the break even if nothing goes in.

And even at one pocket you have to call all kisses and cushions -- no more slop.

This rule will not be in effect in the Straight Pool Challenge.

At the players meeting for each DCC regular event (banks, 1 pocket, 9 ball), that the players are supposed to attend, the ref is very specific about the rules. The allowed double hit with an elevated cue is addressed and is simply a matter of not enough refs to go around. The ref also explicitly states for TV matches that are refereed, normal double hit rules apply.

These rules are also on big posters right by the tournament desk.

But you left out the other part of the "Official Rule":

If the cue ball is froze to the rail you can move it the width of the butt of your cue away from the rail, but you have to buy your opponent a drink.

I hate it when people don't cite an ENTIRE rule.

Just another case of someone changing the rules out of sheer ignorance.

Outside of the OP's rule, which I found, where are you guys getting the other rules stated? Or are you just making them up?

Well, the butt-width rule has been standard in many locations for a long time. It just hasn't made it into the official rules yet.

That's odd to me, because I have never heard of it outside of complete bangers in a bar.
