Pro Players and Drugs

I want some opinions?

What do you guys think about marijuana use for enhancing your pool playing performance? I already stated i smoke weed, my question is this, 'Would you be upset and feel I was trying to enhance my performance if you saw me go out and smoke a joint here and there during a gambling session?' I ask because that is never my intention and i never thought that anyone would think that before reading shorty's response on here. I look at it like this. I socially smoke weed, like most of you socially drink. I feel that smoking weed, having a cigarette, or grabbing a pint of beer is all in the same catergory. I base this opinion purely on Alcohol, feeling that it is alot more mind-altering than marijuana, the government deciding what is right and wrong in this issue annoys me. I am talking from personal experiece with drugs and alcohol, not from a scientific standpoint.

I would like to get a few responses on this please.

Dave, who had an EE professor in the 70s who created one of the first 'video games' ever, just to test peoples reactions while consuming alcohol, and remembers the prof saying peoples reaction performance improved from BAC of 0% up to 0.02% or so, then dropped back to normal at about 0.04%, and fell off quite impressively as their alcohol level increased above ! I still plan to have a beer or two during my match tonight.

I guess reaction performance doesn't necessarily relate to pool table performance, but oddly enough I've gotten in dead punch a couple times while I've been drinking lightly - very heavily (10+ beers real quick). Happen to anyone else?

I wouldn't be upset in the slightest. Fact is, as soon as you came back I'd up the bet and get you to laughing your ass off so hard that you wouldn't even care that you were losing. Then I'd buy some french fries, hot dogs, ice cream and everything else to load your gut up to discomfort (but satisfied) and then have you take another break for a cigar size one. You wouldn't even notice how much you lost until the next morning when you turned your pockets inside out and found nothing but some loose papers.

Grass does NOT enhance performance. What you might gain in slight relaxation is counteracted by other factors.

Amen, Drivermaker, nice to see someone on my side!! Thanks for the fries, hot dogs, ice cr....... err wait a second, are you trying to hust....(inhale).....
(exhale)...... what was i saying again?

Your right about the performance inhancing though, to many other things off-set the relaxation end of it. But your wrong about me not noticing my money being gone. I'm a quitter when i know my drug has me beat.

Drug Testing

Someone once told me that all top pool pros take some kind of drug while playing in pro tournaments. I remember being disgusted by this, then I thought that
it may not be true, or at least not true for all players. This was quite a few years ago but since then I've heard references to pros and drugs now and then.
Is this true? Please someone tell me it's not true of all pros. I don't mean gamblers, I mean top tournament pros. I can't imagine that someone like Ralf Souquet is playing on drugs, but I guess I could be wrong.

.

Ask any of the top tournament players if they would agree to drug testing for money winners in tournaments and I think you would find your answer. Also ask yourself why they test race horses--- Drugs increase performance dramatically--- if you have the right combination. The reason I do not gamble in long sessions is because it is very hard to beat the drugs. Ask any of the old road players.

I remember watching golf on TV a couple of years ago and hearing them talk about how quite a few players were taking beta-blockers to calm their nerves. Nick Price was one named. I guess they had no policy about it and he was up front about it. I don't know if anything has changed since.

I haven't read through the entire thread so excuse me if a like response has already been added.

Nick Price has high blood pressure & was taking a beta blocker for his condition. He didn't care for it at all & did switch to a different med for his hypertension.

Why didn't I just know that DriverMaker would already have addressed this particular issue :D

I know a couple people that play better after smoking up...don't understand how they do it...but I've definitely seen it happen. Maybe it's a psychological thing. They're all A players.

They call it dope for a reason>

I have played my best and worst while under different influences. I have experimented like many others. If someone is trying to use a mix to up their game they eventually will run the tank dry. Any of the railbirds in this forum that have been around or know a lot of these players have seen this. Without naming names, I have seen many young guns play jam up when they get their chemicals. I know one that stayed up 5 days straight then his body started to shut down. Another young great player used to take acid before big matches. As for the guys on tour, the ones who had hungry noses typically have had no staying power. One in particular had a 2 year run where he was very competitive in all the big events, even winning a very large event. Others have been good in spurts but lost focus on their game due to the outside interests. I have known some guys that had the talent to really play but couldn't resist the temptation. That being said, most all the guys you see playing in these tournaments and excelling are doing it on the natch.

I know a slow playing champion that took long breaks not to go to the bathroom but to go outside and smoke weed. It must work and you all should try it.....??????

To reply to the original post, it isn't true that most professionals are on drugs. I'm sure that some do drugs, just like some people who aren't professional pool players do drugs. Most sports seem to be struggling with performance enhancing drug issues right now and, to be quite honest, pool probably has a FAR SMALLER percentage of players who are on drugs in an attempt to enhance their performance than, say, baseball, football or definitely bodybuilding does.

Hey calm down what part of it was just a joke do you not understand, i didnt realize none of you had a sense of humor which is fine, however i do, and actually i am very funny, as far as karen and jennifer, they both play good and jennifer is very attractive, i could care less what they do i dont know why everyone is so worked up over this drug thing, pool and drugs go hand in hand, always has always will who cares. I think we should all get along better if we all went and got smoked up, snorted up and tanked up, and played some, and had fun.

I think everyone would calm down and have even more fun if instead of a meet and greet we had a toke and talk.

I think you hit a sore spot or1pkt. I got a little laugh out of it. It's not politically correct. Kind of like this thread. It brings out all the denial in everybody. No drugs in pool, I don't use, I am on the natch, pros don't use. Horseshit man, I been there and seen it all. Don't get me wrong, there are some good church going players out there. Few is the key word. As far as Jennifer and Karen are concerned, I have met both of them. They are good people. We are all special buddy. One of a kinds.
Burn one for me, Don P. :D
